Best. Thread. Ever. What a read! :D I can't wait to see how high that goes! I'm betting on about $3000 I reckon. If you have two money-no-object collectors, it could go sky-high.

Brett, if was in your shoes, I'd have a quick google "Apple collector" or "Apple Museum" or something and just tip off anyone who you think might have deep pockets... This is a once in a lifetime shot, I'd make the most of it if I were you...!

You're a lucky guy, but you also seem like a nice guy, so I'm very happy for you; maybe you've also stumbled upon another prototype: :apple: iKarma

I used to collect frisbees and still have a very modest collection. A few years ago the record sale price for a frisbee was $2500 and I talked with the person that sold it. Then another rumored collectable showed up on ebay. It was clicking along at an amazing pace then on the last day it went for over $5000 if I remember right. The neat thing (about the winner), he said (in disc golf world news) that he received a phone call (late in the auction) from another collector to tip him off about the auction.

Congrats Brett, Hope you fare well.

foxconn makes most apple parts in shenzhen, china.

its no suprise their quality control unit in so california sometimes could leak a few protos out.

i doubt it will sell for a rediculously high price since its not hard to get them in china.

when there is a doa unit, for example, a scratch on the back foxconn have to destory the scratched back and replace it with a new one, however, a beatup lipo is dangours and you need to take it to a li-po recycle plant because that battery will explode. be very careful with it

anyhow, good luck on the auction

What would be the highest value prototype Mac then? :D
Is MacBook Air somewhere on top of that list?

It's probably up there because of how innovative and all of the engineering (the entire thinalicious factor):D

i am going with VSmacOne on this one: 3-5K in the bank! Brett, my man, I say you buy your girlfriend a new MB air and get yourself a aluminum MB.:) with the rest, you can take her on a nice italian dinner;)

also send a letter of gratitude to the original seller! :p

I would have sold the prototype MacBook Air to a collector who probably can give enough money to buy a Mac Pro and a 30" Cinema Display.

It's a good chance the OP will make at least that much money on the current Ebay auction. :)

This is excellelent, been watching this thread unfold since it was posted.

I know that was a stressful situation, but once you have the money in your hand(or bank account), it'll all be worth it - a 300% or 400% minimum profit is pretty excellent.

My prediction is a max of $3K  but I think it would sell for $2700.

Do I get 10% from the OP for being correct? :D

Damn I thought that it would've gone up a little bit more than that since the last time I checked ($1700USD).

I have a feeling it won't go past $2000.

That guy from the Uk offered 4K

I think he should know about this auction so he can bid and perhaps get it at lower price.

(or bid it up to the moon) :)
