I have a prototype eMac 700. It has medimac.apple.com label on the side. It doesn't have an airport slot, and I think that's the only difference from the production model, but I have never opened it, so there may be other things inside.

How much is it worth?

Not much? I am so disappointed.

Seriously, I really have a prototype eMac. And no, I don't think it is worth a lot. 4 years from now, this Macbook Air prototype will have less value than the regular MBA. So, OP should take the $1800 and run! You came out way ahead already.

The main reason that I didn't take your trade offer is that I wanted to wait it out to see what Apple did.

I'd already ordered one of the base Air's for $1149 so I was going to have to end up selling something anyway, and thought that it would be best to list this for 10 days in case something worked out with Apple.

I guess I do have a working Air now, although I haven't opened it since I don't know what I'm going to do yet.

If I get the money from this I'll go ahead and open that one up to use, and if this all falls through I'll probably end up selling that one as well.

I really just wanted all this to be over tonight, but now it's not looking like that's going to happen.

You said US only in your auction, you can go down the next guy and offer him second chance.
 
Well honestly I think that a non paying bidder is probably the best thing that could have happened to you. If you were after money then the auction was too long (as many people have said) and you missed the internet fervor window.... but..... you've still got a valuable (to an interested party i.e. collector) piece of apple history. Unless you've gotten an offer that's attractive to you via PM on this site, I'd say put it away and forget about it. I don't know what your financial situation is, but I would start looking at this as an accidental investment that could pay off big in the future... document everything (of course all of this has been said), and make sure it stays in the condition that it is now.

good luck bro... sorry the auction didn't work out but I think it's for the best!!! :) I've been following this thread since it's inception and I think it's been a great journey.
 
I ended up sending it to Apple, and they sent me a refurbished one. Sent it off last Tuesday or Wednesday and I got the Refurb Monday.

I basically just wanted this whole thing to be over with, because it had taken up far too much of my time.

Thanks to all that were helpful on this thread.

Yeah, when I went to the store that's what they said, but then after that, someone else at Apple decided that they did want it back.

I got that mysterious phone call from the blocked number before I listed it on ebay, where he claimed to be from Apple, but didn't give me a name or contact info, but said he'd contact me within 3 hours.

He didn't get back to me within the stated time so I took it that he wasn't with Apple, so I went ahead and listed it, but that is why I made it a 10 day, just in case Apple did want it back.

He did call back later and gave me contact info and over a period of time we were able to get it all worked out.

I just wish that they'd been able to tell me when I was at the store (and they did call someone at corporate), that they did want it back, because that would have saved a lot of time and trouble.
