Actually, I can imagine the case just coming apart upon impact from drops especially considering the numerous reports about questionable screws.

I'm personally getting it for looks and minor drop protection. I'm talking like sitting the in chair to carpet drops. Maybe even chair to tile floor. Also for minor dings.

I have my phone wrapped in Lucky Labs now so hopefully that will take care of the wiggle room I'm hearing about. Man, I'm so tempted to buy that fiberglass Tru Skin and a red/silver Vapor Pro to pair with it... I swear, I'm going to end up spending more money on my phones vanity than I spent on the phone itself!

Actually, I already did since I sold my old iPhones on that eBay instant cash thing.

hmm maybe, the screws on mine seem to be pretty sturdy though. pretty sure if i dropped it nothing would happen....who knows though!

Hey guys got busy at work an left my box of cases there I'll get pictures and post them up tomorrow of all the cases/color combos I have. The only frame that had the E on the plastic was the black ops once I get to my MacBook I'll post the seller I used.

with these type of aluminum case, there are ZERO protection...real thing or fake ones...no protection at all from a drop. You'll probably have some scratch or ding somewhere..possible crack lenses. I paid $120 several years ago for the leather vaja case that wrap around the whole phone. Well, I dropped it and it created a crack line at the corner. And that case was surrounded by a full padded cushion. Imagine this one....it's worse.

these cases are more for looks in my opinion...it does make your phone look nicer...different from the others.

don't buy this phone for protection purpose. it might give you crack lines in your glass instead of little pieces apart...but end result, you'll have damage. If you want better protection, then get those rubber that wrap around your whole phone...which make it look ugly..but you get better protection with those than these aluminum bumper.

that's why it's so silly to pay $150 for a real one just for looks.... there are people in this world who like to spend money on higher end price for the real thing... I do that too sometime.... Just like there are people in this world who spend $10,000 for their car on a new body kit just for looks..and only looks :)

How are these cases in terms of damage control if the phones dropped? Are these more for decoration and preventing scratches when placed on a desk or whatever, and not necessarily any good for actual protection in event of the phone falling out of your pocket?

it is a black ops model from jacky nie - http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/103030014.html

i have tried refitting it MANY times. i was thinking that it was the pads? they're too thick or something compared to the vapor 4. i do have a new invisible shield maximum protection that has a piece like the spectra wrap, but i thought it would make it worse. i have no idea where it is in my house tho... is there anyone that put on something similar and it helped with fitment?

I think the black ops case I got was a little loose because the padding inside was too thin, I used a few pieces of a thin foam tape we had at work on top of the pads that were there (except over the button) and it is solid now.

The screws and case are pretty damned solid to me. They screw in deeply. I have absolutely no problems with signal. The phone is snug inside, no movement or rattling. The feel of the phone in the case is amazing and slick. The TONS of compliments flowing in are really cool. Can't wait for the more colors I ordered.

I don't know why anybody would spend $150+ on almost the exact thing, made of the same materials. Pretty stupid.

Thanks for the post, can you show me which rubber ones you are talking about?

probably otterbox defender or ballistic or speck toughskin or griffin survivor. These are the tough cases with polycarbonate shells wrapped in rubber/silicone.

I used an otterbox and the griffin survivor for a few months and my phone was indestructible. :p

Even a regular thick silicone case or slider style case will give you more protection than the vapor. Of course if you change the back to a metal-plastic one (cheap on ebay) then there is one less thing to worry about if you like the vapor/atomic-hybrid bumper-style cases.

To those talking about drop protection:

I'd expect fairly good protection from a case like this. Due to the gap between case and phone, any impact force should be vectored along the case and around the phone.

Are these cases anodized aluminum or painted aluminum

I had a vapor 4 case a year ago and absolutely loved thelook but it killed my signal. I am considering trying one of these, but need to know whether they are the cheap zinc alumium cases that are painted and that are on ebay or are they machined anodized aluminum.

you know the more i look at this white one the more you can see the quality difference when compared to the red/silver.

Of course i am not complaining, for this price i think it is natural to see differences in product quality. Just merely a comparative observation.

When i talk about quality difference, I mainly refer to the fitment in each corner (where the screws bring both sections together). With my red/silver, the fitment is literally PERFECT. I can run my finger over the joining parts and it feels smooth, no gap or anything, almost as if the case is whole and not fitted together.

With the white one, there is a little 'bump' where one of the sections protrudes higher than the other (ever so slight). Also I have just noticed a bit of paint chipping (see pic below)

the tiny dot is where the paint has chipped off a bit.

I wonder if these sellers are trying to improve the white versions. I would love to see a white version that has anodized paint like the red/silver one i have.

Im nitpicking of course ;), but when you have a next to perfect case that costs $26 and a white one which costs roughly the same and is of less quality, i think its worth pointing out the differences!

Hey Pez, can you post a link to the seller which you purchased your silver/red case?

Hey guys. I'll weigh in on the fake vapor pros too.

I ordered a Vapor Pro Black Ops from Jacky/XJD. Ordered on the 11th, shipped on the 18th (i'm guessing he was out of stock or something), received on the 25th. Super fast shipping, my experiences with HK Post are usually ~2 weeks (to Australia), this was fast! I paid $24.75USD with shipping via HK Post.

As all have said, box and everything in it looks authentic, right down to the card stock used on the authenticity cert and the box and the soft backing and pouch (the box was a little beat up, but everything was fine inside)

Quality is brilliant, it feels really nice and solid and the paint is exceptional, no blemishes, no scratches, perfect! The yellow rf block is more clear than yellow/orange but that doesn't worry me. Fit is almost perfect. The bottom left corner where the rf block is has a little bit of play in it, and when I talk about play, I mean micrometers, it just barely moves. Will probably put a bit of felt inside and it will tighten it up. Otherwise the rest of the case feels really well fitted and just, yea, brilliant.

So far I love it, and can't argue with the price.

Just a quick photo, for fun:

awesome review. I believe I have ordered the silver/silver from XJD.

I can't wait! The plastic is why I'm digging these new pro case. I wouldn't want all aluminum case because those are a dime a dozen.

Received my two case from XJD today. I ordered an all black and all silver. I am thoroughly impressed with the quality. The finish on both cases is beautiful. I don't have time for a full review with pictures right now, but perhaps tomorrow I'll give my own review. It'll probably follow much of what everyone else has been saying. Oh, the cases from XJD don't have the E logo on the RF insert.

Awesome! Can you link to the seller? Thanks!

Anyone having problems with AliExpress and using cards for payment? I've tried to buy the same Vapor Pro case that everyone is buying from Jackie and my first order was "closed" for no reason (maybe using a debit card perhaps) and my second order was "frozen" for a "counterfeit card" when I obviously know its my card that I'm using. How is everyone paying for these cases without getting stopped by AliExpress?

Well well well.

Got my white iPhone 4S today.

Its amazing!

Now, I have installed the red and silver vapor pro, and i must say it looks gorgeous. Pics:
