I got it on the PC. Yeah, I know this is the console gaming thread, but I didn't want to start another thread over there ---> :)

True to Fallout forum, it has been very unstable. Just exploring around, and BOOM! Crash. And they already released a patch yesterday.

I have been a Fallout addict since the original. I played Fallout 2 well into the Win XP days. I, too, have put hundreds of hours into Fallout 3 since I keep coming up with different character types. I really like NV, but it's taking a while for me to get used to some of the changes. The first time I saw "ammo cases" and reloading benches, I was confused. I agree that this one seems harder. I have routinely been killed. I do like the factions and reputation thing, since it does kind of make you pick a path and stick with it.

It's has not crashed yet for me on the PS3, however, it does lock up for a second periodically.

I had to access one of those benches to figure out what they were for - ammo isn't as plentiful in FNV (even on regular mode) so I think I'll be restuffing bullets at some point.

Also, I thought the trophies were kind of a joke at first, until I realized that I'll probably need at least two playthroughs to be able to get 10,000 points as "unarmed" and "melee," since these are rarely my style!

Holding off to see which platform is better (i.e. more stable).

Played about 200 hours on Fallout 3 & DLC (PS3) - and only stopped then because the game freezes too much, and gets worse as you play on. Played Oblivion (360) for 500 hours, and again I didn't finish the quests/guilds, the game becomes too buggy and you can't play on.

Can't wait to give it a go though!

So who's met the glitches then? I've got the ps3 version I loved Fallout 3. I must have completed the game 5 or so times without getting that been here done that looted the T-shirt feel to it. So when I got my hands on Fallout: New Vegas I was in my element but after the 1st hour I noticed that the game would freeze for about a second but no biggie but after a couple of days. Here are the 3 I kept getting.

Glitch-1). Vats would stop working with any weapon

Glitch-2). I would open a door and walk into some kind of dark abyss :(

Glitch-3). And finally none of my guns would shoot but soon as I pause the game then un-paused the game or use the pip-boy and then come out. The gun would then fire on its own this by far was the most frustrating. So far glitches 2 and 3 only seem have appeared in vault 32.But glitch 1 has happened to many times for my liking. I hope they update/patch the game soon because for a new game as popular and big as the Fallout series these problems shouldn't be happening.

That is on PS3? I haven't seen any of that on PC, but I know that the whole console-approval thing makes the patches lag ... plus it seems that the PS3 version of everything lately is the worst? (such as Dragon Age, original FO3)

The console patch for FNV was only a week or so behind the PC, so not so bad really. Seen bugs on all platforms - just a typical release from Bethesda really.

- 2 days in, and 3 complete freeze ups so far (handy having the 360 remote which can shut down a frozen console, rather than having to get up and reboot the console).
- Also had the issue where there was a slight pause, then the gun started firing like crazy.
- And got stuck on the terrain once and had to fast-travel to get out of there (though that's understandable IMO, in such a massive game-world). Looks like this is going to be more of the same (stability/glitch -wise) as Fallout 3 and Oblivion.

I tried the 360 version this time (as opposed to the PS3 version of F3). It doesn't have the anti-aliasing issues of the PS3 version, and doesn't have light/colours bleeding through the edges in dark areas. On the other hand, the PS3 version has sharper textures, and greater depth in the scenes (as in, hills/buildings in the middle-distance look very low-res to me).

Obviously I'm comparing FNV (360) to F3 (PS3) which isn't a perfect comparison, but I'd go for the PS3 version of FNV if buying again.

Glitches? Where do I start?

It usually does a crash back to the desktop about once per session. I have had it do it two or three times. After Friday, though, I may me done with this game. It had a crash back to the desktop. Annoying, but no big deal. At least I thought it wasn't until I tried to load my last save. BOOM! Back to the desktop. It was an autosave, so I decided to try my last hard save. BOOM! Another crash to the desktop. I had four different saves, and all of them got corrupted. Every one of them caused a crash back to the desktop. Just to see if the whole game was corrupted, I tried a new game and it worked. So, 24 levels and 40+ hours gone.

Ouch! v.1.01 has run pretty well on my PS3, but still a couple of small freeze-ups.

In terms of gameplay, I would say that while I like the tone/music/feel of F3 better, I think that the range of decisions is more interesting and complex in F:NV.

I also like how even minor tasks are "quests." In F3 sometimes I'd lose track of minor things that could net me XP/Caps.

Bought it on Steam this time around, but struggling to get into it if i'm honest. It feels like an expansion of Fallout 3 and whilst I enjoyed that for the most part, the repetitious nature of fetch quests is starting to piss me off.

It's one hell of an expansion! For me there are very, very few games out there that are better value than the Fallouts/Oblivion etc.

Admittedly, a lot of it is exactly the same as the 'original'. If you were wandering around inside buildings, you'd be hard pressed to tell which building or which game you're in - so many of them were the same.

It does offer a lot of tweaks to the gameplay:

- You have more control over your 'companions', can use them as mules and give them weapons to use.
- Mods to alter/improve your weapons.
- Magazines to allow temporary boosts to your skills to do certain tasks.
- The need to drink, eat and sleep regularly, requiring you to be careful with what you carry.
- New "Caravan" game.
- Lots of new enemy types, new weapons
- Different ammunition types to switch between for different target types.
- The ability to manufacture your own ammo.
- Having different reputations with different groups.

Actually, I found the exterior of the buildings to be much better. In Fallout 3, everything was a washed out gray color. Interior? Yeah, I found a lot of the bunker/sewer type places looked exactly the same. I was just happy the outside had color, though.

I do like the reputation system, though it can get annoying at times. "You have gained infamy with the Legion!" popped up as I was wiping out a whole camp of them. No, really? I do really love the weapon mods. The Cowboy Repeater fully modded combined with the Cowboy perk is a great combo.

Thankfully, another patch will be released Real Soon Now that is supposed address the save corruption issue and some other problems. Maybe it will finally be a bit more stable.

I ended up getting it for Windows. I bolted through the game as I was super excited to see New Vegas. Now I'm playing a heavily modded version of the game on the hardest difficulty. I make sure most of the mods are aesthetic or bug fix type stuff to not make the game easier. It's great fun and taking me quite a while to get very far this time. I also turned off subtitles during conversation to force me to listen to what the characters are saying instead of speed reading. I'm learning a lot of new lore this way.

Yeah, what I found odd is that you can attack a Legion camp, kill a dozen legionnaires without losing any karma. But then if you rifle through their footlockers - you lose karma? Eh???

The more I play the game the more I like the new tweaks - like how each companion offer's different abilities. Boone is great as a spotter and as back-up. The implants are a nice new addition too (even though I can't afford any yet!) The abilities to create your own ammo and brew your own chems is good too.

I did notice some more oddities/bugs:

- Anyone else find that your 'arms' tend to fly up every now and again? Particularly annoying when you're aiming a weapon and your arms obscure the screen - and scary when it happens as you're creeping around in some dark sewer and then your arms fly up and scare you! :p

- The texture flickering (on the 360) is starting to be annoying. It doesn't affect the gameplay, but it does kinda shake you out of that immersive experience.

- Companions often don't follow instructions. You tell them to 'be passive', but they run headlong into battle and get you both killed. Or switch to melee weapons even if you tell them to use ranged.

I also told Boone to stay put, but even at the other side of the map he was still 'spotting' for me (handy!). And when I went down to the bottom of one of the vaults, and was running low on stimpacks and ammo, he suddenly appeared as I went through the door. Not that I was complaining, I was dead otherwise!

Note - friendly reminder. There are no auto-saves when roaming around in the wasteland. You don't want to lose hours of progress due to being attacked, or the console freezing. Save! Save! Save!

Yeah that's got me on a couple of occasions and it's bloody annoying ;)

It was nice to see the implants return. Some were available in Fallout 2, then disappeared. I noticed that with the karma thing. I gained infamy, but didn't lose karma when killing Legion people, yet lost karma pilfering their stuff. Go figure.

The companions are great, and a huge upgrade from previous versions. Boone is great, except when he whips out the machete and goes charging into battle even after telling him to use his rifle. Then the other day, I had him loaded down with loot and I fast traveled to Gun Runners to sell stuff and he just takes off running toward Vegas.

I have also seen the weird things with the arms. Sometimes my character will be holding a gun above their head for some reason. One other funny thing is when I fast travel to the 188 trading post, it always looks like I am falling from mid-air when I arrive. I don't know if anyone else has seen this.

Edit: One nice thing about the PC version is you can have it autosave when you fast travel to a location, when you wake up from sleep, and a couple of other times. It's handy.

That is a great tip and FNV definitely has more story/backstory than F3. Rather than endlessly reading terminals, FNV seems more conversational. In fact, it pays to talk to people as much as possible because one of the (many) quests can launch that way. "Tell me about yourself" is pretty much available for any character you can talk to, even companions. Without giving too much away, if Arcade is your companion, it goes even further than that.

You can set the game to auto-save after you sleep, fast-travel, or enter/exit a building or area. However, it never hurts to save manually too!

Haven't travelled with Arcade much, but I do know with Cass you have storylines open up.

I also turn off subtitles, forces me to listen and understand what I'm actually travelling around for; not simply "following the dot".

Thanks - I do that anyway, but sometimes I could play for an hour without doing any of those things. Plus - as I found out yesterday - it's good to have more than one save. Left a building, the game hung in mid-save. If I hadn't been doing manual saves, I'd have lost my entire game progress.

p.s. Anyone been into Vault 11 yet? Of all the Vault stories, I think this is my favourite! Very difficult though! ;)

Yeah, all the human companions have their own storylines that will open up for you. You have to do certain quests and other tasks and build up "companion points" with them. Then, you can ask them more stuff and trigger their unique quest. I have done it with Boone. Even the robot ED-E has a quest plotline.

One thing I have learned playing all the Fallout games: Save early and often. I keep a set of about 3-4 rolling hard saves plus the autosaves. As buggy and unstable as this game is (and all Fallouts have been, really), it is a must.

Oh yeah, Vault 11 was interesting. Vault 22 was just creepy. 34 annoyed me because of how much RadAway I had to eat.

Was Vault 34 the 1 full of zombies? And at the end you have to do something with a water valve? because the amount of times I had to keep leaving it to get to a doc due to radiation poisoning or the glitches I met in that 1 vault alone.

Has anyone became a gun runner yet? if so how do you go about doing it.

Yeah, Vault 34 was the one with all the radiation and feral ghouls. I found it by accident at first and left because of all the radiation. I didn't go back until I had a truckload of RadX and RadAway. I don't think you can become a Gun Runner, but there is one quest where you are asked to break into their factory.

Yeah I didn’t think about coming back later with more radaway or when I was a higher level I just stormed thought it and then died of radiation poisoning half way thought or just ended up getting jumped by a load of ghouls :( .

But I surely there is a quest that you can become a gun runner because just to have them in the game for that 1 part of the game just seems a bit point less. And i'm getting annoyed with them cazador flys they always seem to appear when i have no health or low on ammo

I finally got around to playing the Dead Money DLC yesterday. It was terrible. Don't waste your money on it. I played all 5 of the DLC in Fallout 3, and while they weren't ALL amazing, they were all pretty interesting and fun. At least they all had a couple unique weapon/armor items that were worth having. Dead Money is like the exact opposite of that.

Boring level design, boring enemies, story was pretty bland, all the new gear is pretty lame, and the "reward" at the end is basically nonexistent. The only minor positive is the level increase from 30 to 35. Other than that, it sucked. I was hoping for something similar to Point Lookout, but what we got was like a horrible replica of The Pitt with all the awesome weapons and armor missing. Fingers crossed the next DLC is not like this.

That's really disappointing to me. Fallout 3 and New Vegas are two of my all time favorite games and I was looking forward to NV's DLC.

I might get it anyway just for the increased level cap, LOL!

If you keep your expectations low, it's not THAT bad. I just really loved the last couple DLCs in Fallout 3, and was hoping that "Dead Money" would continue the trend. The extra level increase is nice, but other than 1 cool new gun and a nice piece of armor, the rest of the DLC is pretty boring.

But yea, if you are having Fallout withdrawals, this will at least pass some time.
