who uses the 5w charger anyway? Ever since the iPhone 6 came out I have been using the 12watt charger that came with my iPad. I went ahead and picked up two more over the years. Compare the 12w to the anticipated 18w in regards to recharging speed please.

I have a 2017 VW GTI so it is going to be a bit until I buy a new car but are other cars (that are reasonably priced or cheaper) coming with USB-C or USB-A ports for charging or connecting to Apple CarPlay Android Auto?

The 2019 BMW X3 sDrive 30i has USB-C charging. Wireless CarPlay is an added option (and brilliant!). It starts at $41K.

The 12W USB-A adapter is still available.

While I intend to get the 6.5" OLED model, it's going to be expensive enough on it's own (plus I already have AirPods).
if they came with a set of air pods you could always sell them to help offset the cost of the phone.

Just got my 2018 Silverado 1500 a few weeks back: 2 USB-A for Carplay (and charging) and wireless charging option in the higher trim levels built in to the center armrest between the bucket seats. 2019 no idea.

Anyone know if an iPhone 7 Plus would charge faster with this charger than with an iPad charger?

An iPad charger is slightly faster than the included charger but not enough of a difference to be worth going out of the way to use one.

My 2017 Hyundai Sonata Turbo Limited is USB-A and supports CarPlay (which I use) and Android Auto. I do not believe any vehicle currently offers direct USB-C connectivity.

It appears the iPhone 7 can only support up to 10 watts for charging, so it would not (as the iPad charger is 12W).

If it means fulfilling more iPhone orders, I’m all for this. Last thing I want is my order to be delayed because of production issues with the charger.
Frankly, I'd just as soon they not include a charger or cable at all. I'm sure I am not alone in this, there are right now unused on my workbench FOUR 5w chargers, TWO 12w chargers, and FIVE 1m USB-A to Thunderbolt cables. I don't use the chargers or cords that came with my wife's & my iPhone X's; we have wireless chargers by the bed & in each car. Including all the chargers and even cables, is very wasteful.

I bought a DJI Tello drone that happened to arrive today, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it did not include a charger or even a Micro USB cord. Good! Less waste, and not like I don't have half a dozen of them already.

While they are at it they should also include a set of air pods with the new phones or at least with the 6.5 OLED X
(-‸ლ) If you want AirPods, buy AirPods.

This might be good to get users if they want a fast charger, get 2080 iPhone as the "reason" not to sell it separate for now. Apple's knows what they're playing at

Would be nice if the prongs folded like iPad wall adapter

Would also be nice if an Australian version was made.

Doesn't Google already sell this charger?

79% after an hour, getting better, but if they get to 80% in 20 minutes, like my current phone, how about we call that news.

As opposed to what? What exactly do you think the option is? The fastest possible charging through a USB Type A is 7.5W if I am reading this right. So it has to be USB Type C to get 18W.

Anker PowerIQ is pushing 10-12W through USB-A, and Qualcomm QC2 and QC3 can push 18W through USB-A. Of course Apple is at war with Qualcomm, so they couldn't use QC3 like most other smartphones (Motorola TurboPower is QC3, Samsung's Quick Charge is QC2), so they used USB-C PD instead.

Yes. It might charge slightly faster still with Anker PowerIQ. I use Anker PowerIQ for iPad, Android phone, battery banks, all sorts of stuff. I have a 4-port and a 2-port in my car, travel with a 4-port, and have two USB banks that also use PowerIQ. It's a great technology that they put together. Even my friend's iPhone 6s seemed to charge quite a bit faster with PowerIQ. It's not technically fast charging, but it's at least 2x the speed of the stock iPhone charger.
