Thats what i'm saying. With connection speeds as fast as they are the only thing that matters is how fast a browser renders, and most are within just a few milliseconds of each other, so i go with the browser that has the best features.

i agree, thats why i stopped using chrome. i cant watch netflix, theres the gfx card switching bug, etc... safari 5 for now.

my macbook runs 15 degrees cooler when i'm using safari... wow.

my macbook ran at about 65 degrees C with firefox, now it's between 45-50 degrees.

i'm giving omniweb a shot right now and i don't think it's terrible at all! the "tabs drawer" is kind of wonky, but as of now, i don't think it's terrible.

it also crashes every time i try to run peacekeeper, lol.

is it just me or is safari better on the battery than firefox??
i loved firefox but im done with it, it is indeed slower and i can't watch netflix fullscreen for some reason.

chrome on the other hand needs to fix the gfx switching bug, and get their plugins act together.

so for now.. safari 5

I found the same thing that FF used more battery than Safari 5, probably because is uses more memory than Safari 5 does.

Considering Safari 5 crashed on me 4 times yesterday and usually at least 1-3 times a day..... sticking with Chrome. I've done a fresh os/x install, updates etc, doesn't matter... Safari constantly crashes and Chrome is a bit quicker as well for me from normal browsing to loading videos etc.

hmm im a new chrome convert, after several years of firefox on my pc. things just move so much faster on chrome.

however, i do have one strange phenomenon occurring. google maps is ridiculously slow to load (basically, not loading at all) on chrome, and close to instantaneous on safari. it appears completely bizarre to me, because i would have expected google to have optimised its own browser to run one of its most popular services.

any tips on how to fix this problem in chrome?

I got Chrome to load the latest version of Google Earth in less than 15 seconds. Given the graphics intensive nature of Google Earth, I thought that was quite good.

I'm coming from PCs and about to buy my first Mac in the next few weeks. I usually use Chrome for the PC but for some reason, with multiple tabs open, it seems more of a resource hog than Firefox to the point that I've started to use Firefox when I wanna open more than a couple of tabs at once.

Does the Mac version suffer from the same resource-hogging nature? It's definitely the fastest but it's irritating how it uses quite a bit more RAM than Firefox. I suspect Safari is the most 'efficient' on Mac?

Chrome FTW :)
I agree that Chrome is the best of the OS X browsers these days, despite its occasional squirreliness such as its inability to handle Netflix streaming video. That hasn't been a big deal, though, because I just use Safari for NF but nothing else. In most ways, I have found Chrome to be the best browser yet.

100mb here or there isn't going to make much difference on a machine which probably has 4GB of ram.

Chrome SOMETIMES freezes for me, but then I only lose the tab, and not the whole browser. That is what makes Chrome the best browser in my opinion.

In terms of speed...

Chrome=Safari 5>Opera>Firefox

At least it's been this way in my experience. Early 2009 MBP.

well i thought safari5 with extensions would be the best overall. there is now finally an adblock extension and safari even supports blocking ads by not loading them whereas chrome adblock just hides them. However even with safari5+adblock it is *way* slower for me then chrome6.

personally i prefer opera 10.60 with an urlfilter.ini adblock though. it seems like the fastest and most feature complete of them all.

so im trying to get use to chrome, couple things i dont like compare to firefox is that i cant press f5 to refresh, cant 3 finger scroll to home/end. bettertouchtool only works for snow leopard and im running leopard. ive been a long time firefox user. also i dont like the tabs on top of the address bar in chrome. it is definitely faster and doesnt seem to use up as much resource as firefox, but these little quirks bothers me.

Nobody uses Iron here?

iron is okay but i see few benefits over chrome or chromium. Besides they offer just the stable channel whereas chrome6 is much better imho.

the tabs on top in chrome are so much more logical then FF or safari. the address bar is part of the tab (the url and controls on each tab can be different) so it is much more logical that it would be part of a tab instead of being above the tabs from a GUI design perspective.

However, now it is much harder to drag the browser around - there is almost no draggable space.
