I can see how this is fantastic for people who are on the go, away from their desk, or in meetings all day, work outdoors, fly a lot, or use public transportation as opposed to a car where you could use a car charger. I use my iPhone so much I am often out of battery as early as 11am and know how frustrating this is.

However, I just could not bring myself to putting a device on my iPhone that completely destroys the device's aesthetic appeal and beautifully designed lines. If they had managed to keep the iPhone's exterior flush by either completely covering the bottom side, or the backside, or both -- keeping the straight lines and just adding some millimeters length or depth it would be acceptable to me. Instead, the device makes the iPhone look like a monolithic remnant from the 80's. It's just not working.

Yes, the iphone industrial form is sleek, but not functional. Slips right out of the hand. I'd prefer my $500 device be functional than keep falling out of my hand, as it did for a month before I got a silicone case. Form needs to follow function. The iPhone really doesn't. There's no curve or rubber or anything to keep it from slipping from the hand. Kinda ridiculous.

Brilliant idea! An external battery that literally hooks onto and becomes part of the phone. Brilliant!

Having said that, I think the current battery is sufficient.

Battery Replacement

Well I have an Original iPhone and my battery lasts just about 8 hours. I have a choice, loose my phone for 3 days or buy this unit until I go completely dead...in that case, time to upgrade to the 3g.

I am a fan of the original iPhone as I like the aluminum case vs the plastic. I guess someday I wont have choice.

When you go to order it on the site, it shows that the 2G model is $79, the 3G "option" is $89.

Hopefully, the "3G tax" will be waived, once the first wave of purchases drops off, while we enter the holiday season.

Be wary of Fastmac !

They sold me vaporware (U-Charge) back in June for $90.

Still have not delivered!

Refuse to refund!

Hardly ever reply to email!

Has the smell of fraud all over it. It really stinks.

Pierre

After some harsh words - announcing that I will issue a press release about the rip-off - I have gotten a refund and was presented excuses.

looks like a good emergency device but i doubt the thing would fit in your pocket...

looks pretty thick

I love the concept.

Obviously, for every day use, this thing would be at home on my dresser.

But for any long trips, it would go for sure.

Just in case.

FastMac Battery Vaporware?

Here is the email I got last week, 1st day the post appeared in macrumor:

Thank you for ordering a TruePower Battery Charger for the iPhone.

Still waiting....................... and the total price for the 3G after tax & $10 kick up fee for 3G is approx $105

I also tried the email for faster service, still waiting on that too................

The battery is not shipping and fastmac is not answering

I ordered the battery on the 10th.
The order is still "processing" (3 weeks). My credit card was alredy charged of 119$ (item + shipping).

I've been trying to contact fastmac.com but they stopped answering my mails.
According to their last mail I was suppose to get it by the end of last week. Again, the order has never shipped...

I wouldn't reccomend ordering through fastmac.com

I have the FastMac Truepower iv and it's awesome :) It charges the iPhone's dead battery 2,5 times. The only downside is it's bulkiness (but as an emergency battery it works like a charm) and the thing that it gets fully charged in 6-7hrs (but obviously due to it's huge capacity). I love it :D:D:D

Love the size of the battery...wish it wasn't sooooo damned ugly.

They need to forget about having it dock...go straight to usb only changing...smooth off the bottom.

Flash

As far as I know, OS 3.0 enables software to interact with external hardware -> it will be nice to have in a future version an automatic flash
