Thanks iGary! :D

How is the Detox Fast going? i had a friend in atlanta that used to swear by a similar detox method... was considering trying it out myself, but cant imagine not eating solid food for 10 days!

Let me know how it goes, and good luck!

I made it 10 days without eating any solid food - only the prescribed potion. It was fine - I felt much better....lost 10 pounds.

Then I ate yesterday and it threw me for a loop. My neck hurts again, I am fatigued, glands swollen - so....I am gonig to do another 10 days in an attempt to get my body back in sync again.

That's great! I occasionally fast, taking in only fruit and vegetable juices, and I feel great after doing so. It's so cleansing. Plus, ever since I started fasting I eat so much healthier and even when I'm eating solid food a large portion of my caloric intake is from those same juices. I've never felt better or had such a nutritious diet in my life.

Good for you. :D

I am on day 7 of this fast with three more days to go. I don't know how much weight I have lost, but I have.

Next step is a high-protein low-carb diet with no preservatives, colors or artificial anything (basically this eating plan/lifestyle change).

Hoping to start marathon training again in September. ;)

I am going to try that cleansing method, thanks for the link.

I have a question about what you all think about things like pasta and bread in moderation. I'm all for going preservative/artificial free, getting rid of sweeteners etc. but I don't know if I could go without eating fresh baked bread or pasta  Has anyone had good weight loss results and still eat some bread (even if its once a week?)

I have a stepsister with rheumatoid arthritis, and she has basically cut out most all carbs from wheat and processed flours from her diet (she turned me onto this cleanse) .

Personally, if I do consume that type of stuff, I get wheat SPROUT bread and pasta that is whole grain - it certainly is not as tasty as the regular stuff, but...also I don't consume (or try really damned hard) any trans fats - only extra virgin olive oil or expeller pressed canola. Nothing else...get the Andrew Weil book - its quite good. :)

Edit - also if you do the fast, make sure you use the laxative tea and salt washes - I did not do this enough the first ten days, but I sure will for this second round.

I'm not now, but when I was younger I was overweight (when I graduated from high school, my BMI was maybe around 28) and maybe obese (I don't remember that clearly, but with growth spurts I think that there were times when my weight outpaced my height and so probably my BMI was higher...I remember that I looked overweight but not obese at the end of high school).

Anyways, then I started reasonable dieting and more exercise and got down to the normal range. And then disordered eating and being underweight. And now a low normal weight... and still sort of disordered....

Anyways, I just wanted to voice my support for itcheroni and everyone else in this thread trying to improve their body image. You guys are doing it in a much healthier way than I did, and I think it's great that you're supporting each other. I'm so rooting for you too.

I'm in pretty good shape, but I have a really hard time changing my weight. I cannot gain it, nor lose it, no matter how hard I try.

Eating 8 large meals a day, 170g of protien from shakes, and lifting weights 4 days a week and I nada.

Eating veggie, running and riding my bike miles upon miles, and I couldn't lose anything.

And then, I discovered, the secret: the flu.

I had the flu the other weekend, which caused me to be unable to eat anything solid for 3 days. Gave my weight a little nudge and I lost 5 pounds. :)

Since we're about 2/3rd done with this experiment, I'll give an update on my progress. I fell off the wagon and ate ridiculous amounts of food for a whole week and have been working back down for this past week. I went up to 177 and now I'm 173. It's amazing how easy it is to gain weight. Looks like I'm not going to hit my target by the deadline but I eventually will when I live on my own again. I still feel pretty good regardless of my little setback. Did 210 inclined sit ups today, 7 sets of 30.

How is everyone else doing?

This Master Cleanse couldn't possibly be natural or healthy, could it? People, like other animals, are meant to eat. I can understand becoming a vegetarian for 2 weeks and eating nothing but salad or other raw veggies, but this seems a bit far and unnatural. It almost seems as natural as those weight lifters who seem to be able to bench press like 100 kg at the gym I go to. None of what we do seems natural.

I want to be healthy, but in the most natural way possible. I go to the gym and lift weights, but rarely. It's just to keep the muscle in all the right parts so that I can burn calories easily. I run every 2-3 days. I play sports. I eat some crap, but also eat a large salad with vinegar dressing every day. Surely that's better than just drinking a lemon and maple syrup.

Besides, the key to the "master cleanse" diet is the actual bowel movements, it seems. Taking in only things you need without preservatives, sweeteners, colourings, hormones, etc, and then going to the toilet 2-3 times a day. Of course you'll feel cleaner. You're starving, not taking anything else in, and just dumping out stuff that your body doesn't want. It doesn't sound like you really need this lemonade diet to do so. A raw diet may be just as good.

So.... I'm throwing in the towel with the fat club.

Reason? Let's just say nbs2 and I found out a few days ago that we will soon have our own personal things to post to this thread. I hope we're not premature by posting that info since it's still very early....

Good luck to everyone else! I hope you're all keeping up with it. :)

Good luck and congratulations! Have you even told your family yet, or were we the first? ;)

Congrats!

I suppose one could change a letter and call this FIT CLUB - everyone posting here is trying to get more fit.... and for you, being fit would be your "training" for that all important little event, right? C'mon!

As for myself, I'm increasing my walking at lunch....and increasing my fiber intake...and lowering my chocolate intake

Good advice.

For those of us that want to lose weight, it is about watching the calories in vs. calories out in the end.

I wish I could. It's the hardest thing for me to get rid of. Even when I weighed 135 lbs and ran 7 miles a day in high school, I still had a little bit of fat there.

Anyways, I made a very convincing girl on Halloween when I was 17. My friend's parents didn't know I was a guy for about half an hour and my manuerisms are not at all feminine.

You might want to check your testosterone and estrogen levels when you get your blood profile done. Having excess fat around your chest or 'gynaecomastia' can easily occur in males with higher levels of estrogen.

Of course, it could just be a family trait.. but if not, and you truly do have elevated estrogen levels, then no amount of excercise will get that fat off. You will need hormone therapy. Its not that scary as it sounds though :) And yes, I am a doctor!

Edit : forgot to mention that you should get your thyroid levels checked as well.

Hmm, I just saw a doctor who said I might have a thyroid problem.

Is there any harm in waiting to find out about my hormone levels? I don't have insurance right now. :(

No, there's no harm in waiting, unless you exhibit definite symptoms. But then those symptoms (like feeling lethargic all the time, weak, having fatty deposits on your body, etc) can be attributed to a lot of things like - diet, sleeping habits, your local weather and so on.. I know I feel so darn lethargic because its hot out here in California :p

Don't worry about it though.. just follow a regular excercise regimen, combined with proper eating habits. That is recommended anyway, even with hormonal disorders..besides, its the best for your body. A friend of mine had gynaecomastia and he had to have it removed surgically, as it was really affecting his social life and his work.

While I'm all for excercise and proper nutrition, and I can't understand the excuses that physically fit but obese people use for not excercising.. I hate it when people just look at a fat person and point fingers, or make snide remarks without considering that it could well be a medical condition.. and not just obesity due to lack of excercise+bad food habits.

I guarantee that if I could treat a 'fat' person with anti-estrogenics+testosterone doses.. he would transform into a muscular person pretty soon. Excercise elevates your testosterone in a natural, but gradual manner. For some, that may seem too long.

Additionally, our food stuff has enough additives, and chemicals which interfere with our hormones. For e.g. milk, chicken, etc pumped with steroids. It all affects us.. not instantaneously of course.. but it does build up. Studies have shown that food/water stored in plastic containers (your regular bottled water, soda drinks, etc) have chemicals secreted by the plastic that can elevate estrogen levels in your body.

Since my last post (6/9) I've lost about 6 pounds just continuing what I was doing though not going to the gym that much. I just got a bike so I been riding that a lot.

Since mid-April I've lost close to 30 pounds, though the 4th is going to kill me.

Awesome! Keep up that good work :) If I rode a bike from san bernardino to hollywood.. I'd lose all my bodyweight

Well, I haven't exactly thrown in the towel to exercise, but I've definitely cut back to lower impact exercises, namely, a mini exercise bike every morning. I'll get out and walk every now and then when the morning sickness isn't too debilitating.

As far as food goes I've had a couple of urges for junk food in the last couple of weeks, but those usually follow after a few days of eating nothing but rice cakes, crackers, and other such bland food. All in all, I try to be as healthy as I can with food that will stay down and/or will not make me feel like puking 10 minutes later. It's really hard to force myself to eat spinach or something healthy that is really odorous, but if I know it will stay down I'll do it....

So far, I'm doing great. I use my new treadmill every morning for 1/2 hour (trying to do longer but I'm really, really out of shape).

I'm drinking water, seltzer and trying to get use to herbal tea in place of coffee (the hardest thing so far to do)
I'm eating a lot of fruit and vegetabes.

If I can keep this up for 6 months I will be the happiest woman in the world :)
