Op wants to be able to send in the device he bought at a retail location to Apple.com. He has to return it to the retail location, where he purchased the device. You can't return a store bought item by mail. Never heard of this being done.

Except for pretty much every other manufacturer of course.

If you buy something from, say, Panasonic in a shop and the shop then goes bust the next day, you are entitled to send it back to Panasonic if it breaks down a few days later.

They aren't brand new.

Yes they are brand new. At this time around it's way too early for the service units to be refurbished. Apple DOES keep new ones (phone only) on a white box for warranty replacement purposes. Maybe around 3-4 month from now you will start seeing refurbish being handed out as replacement unit.

Keep in mind that if you do replace it with a service unit, you can no longer return the phone as the serial number on the box doesn't match the phone, so that is one thing to consider. But some people have managed to get it returned. It all depends on whether they will follow their policy.

Since you said you don't want to drive that far to the Apple store, but maybe you should since you purchased it at the retail store and not through Apple.com. Also, when you do get it exchanged or replaced, which ever method you used, I suggest you open the box at the apple store and check for any defects and make sure everything is working as it supposed to before you walk out the store.

I bought an ipod touch, I went to the car, opened it only to realize that the metal thingy on the back wouldn't open, and the device wouldn't turn in. Well luckily I didn't start my car, and I just went back to the Apple store and got a new one right away. So I always open my box at the apple store to make sure everything is working before I walk out of the store.

Did Apple go bust? When you buy a product you have to abide by the stores return policy. If you didn't know the return policy then that's on you. Before I spend any substantial amount of money in a store, I already know where, and how long I have to return it. If I don't like the policy, I won't buy.

I shouldn't have to at great expense to myself. I've done it once, all I'm asking is an address to send it to for a refund so I can order another online. It's not hard to grasp.

No, I am not.

Apple is not responcible for your travel expenses. If you want another phone you will need to go to the store!

What do you expect to accomplish here as no one here can help you do what need to be done.

You are not special!:(

Of course, however they reserve the right to repair or replace your item (with a refurb) as the manufacturer sees fit. Same as what Apple is offering and in the UK this is what Sony did when I worked in one of their franchised outfits. Refunds were out of the question as you did not deal with us but someone else.

If you want a nice shiny brand new one off the factory line, you're going to have to go back to where you bought it or face a standard warranty replacement which is a refurb.

Yes you're going to have to travel but that's your problem, not the manufacturers. Suck it up.

I really don't understand the obsession with getting a new unit. I'd be happy to get a refurbished unit if it looks brand new and more importantly, fault-free.

It's amazing how many people are shocked when they're confronted with this reality.

If my product went bad with the return policy, I would return it and buy a brand new unit.

I didn't even read all the comments... bottom line OP.

1. if you purchased the phone brand new and you're still under the 14 day window, you should demand for a brand new iphone out of the box.

Which he can get buy returning to the place of purchase and retiring it and buying a brand new one. He however can't get a brand new one by going the warranty route. It's his choice to make.

wrong.

apple has 14 day no questions asks return/replace warranty. if you demand a fresh phone brand new as a replacement, they are obligated to give you one. I did this with my 4s.

I dont get it why people dont like refurbished units. These are always better than the original ones since they have all the defects taken care of and there's really nothing wrong with them.

Which they will give him when he goes to the store. You can't choose to get one mailed to you if you bought it in store. It's their decision as per their warrant policy. You can demand a new unit all you want, but it's up to them. Op bought the phone is store, if he goes back they will gladly take it back and give him a brand new one. He does not want to do this. Thats his issue.

I agree
A long time ago refurbs were a hit and miss But today I have bought coffee pots , tablets , ect and all are still working great

Best of all I saved lots of money

Why are we still discussing this when the TC has yet to confirm what many of us have asked, "How far is the Apple Store from you?" Again, I really can't understand how expensive this supposed trip is that he's refusing to go to resolve this.

Closest apple store to me would involve me driving 8 hours some people don't have the time or money to do that. He might drive a truck that gets 10 mpg or a prius we don't know all the details. I had major problems with an apple refurb so I understand why somebody that paid big bucks for a new phone wouldn't want a refurb.

No, I am not.

I don't have options. They will not let me send a phone I bought in store to them at all. They just keep saying "go to the store". I can't. It's really far and costs a lot to get there.

So, how far are you from the store?

This ^^^

Are you flying to the store or something??? I mean, what is this "great expense". Even if it's an hour or two away that's only like 20 bucks in gas. Please explain why you won't go back to the store?

You have several options. You just choose not to like any of them and only want what you want.

Help us understand this a little better because as it stands, you're crapping on Apple because they won't let you send it back to them for a brand new sealed phone. Even though you can get that by going back to the store. However you won't because it's "such a great expense".

if it's 2 hours away and that means at least driving for 4 hours for me that's a tank of gas and $50 . Not everybody drives hybrids ! I don't understand why everybody being so rough on the poster

I hope your not with att. I just purchased a phone and had an issue within the 14 day period. They refused to help me and said I had to go to apple or I could cancel my whole contract. They said it's their policy and they don't exchange Apple phones period. So needless to say I was a bit pissed. My only option was to go to apple and getting a white box replacement.

Yes we are being rough. But so far he's only shown to be unreasonable. We've explained difference in warranty and retail exchange. And since he already made the initial trip to purchase, he's not driving across an entire state to get it resolved. As if driving through a couple of towns is far.

Very true.

Grumble.

I got my new IPHONE from the store last week. It is a new replacement for the first which had numerous issues. This new one has a physical defect out the box.

I cannot afford to go back to the store again. It costs a lot and it's far.
I have spoken to Apple on the phone and they aren't helping. They are basically offering me a white box replacement (no way) or telling me to go back to the store. They will NOT let me send this unit to them for a refund and then allow me to buy online a new one. They say all phones bought from the store must be taken back to the store.

What do I do?
I just can't face another long and expensive trip into a store. Surely as one company they can let me send this in?

What's wrong with a white box replacement? All iPhone 6's come in a white box anyway so it's not like you're getting a lesser phone.

But...but... It's a thinner white box!

In all seriousness I got a white-box replacement 6 Plus at the Apple Store and it's perfect. There are no refurbs yet anyway.
