Yes the silent part is key.

My roommates single core eMachines something or other POS tower is like constantly blowing hurricane force and is so super loud.

I'm like dude, I have four processing cores, four fans, two hard drives, and my computer is way quieter than yours. Yeah, that's how cool I am.

Your e-penis just grown by -------0 that much.

yadda yadda yadda. MP is great. eMachines are the scorge of the computer world.

I know this isn't exactly a mac pro only feature but I'm really enjoying 'back to my mac'. Being able to start and monitor long encoding or rendering processes at work from the comfort of my sofa at home is a very very good thing. So my favourite thing right now about the Mac Pro is that I have access to it's ludicrous power even when I'm the other side of London.

I really like how fast it starts up, in less than 30 seconds-BAM- it's there. Then I like how I can have multiple monitors doing multiple tasks in multiple apps. LOVIN IT. Not to mention encoding is lickety split. I haven't had any hardware glitches, and have worked out all the Leopard & Airport bugs. It is the computer of my dreams. I just wish I had enough room on my desk for the monolith.

Best feature? Can drive a 30" (2560x1600) LCD with a decent video card and large+fast 3.5" disks.

A MacBook Pro is a better buy for most users, but the internal disk is necessarily slow and small compared to a desktop.

Just had mine delivered last week. Big upgrade from a digital audio G4 Powermac. My picks are...

-Quiet(though my G4 Xserve sitting below it makes this point mute)
-Front usb/firewire ports for all the equipment I'm swapping out
-Dual monitor setup(had a second lcd sitting in a box for the last year waiting for a system to support it)

Well, since this is my first Mac, I'd have to say my favorite feature is OS X Leopard. I'm so amazed by the functionality and ease of use of this OS it's ridiculous.

Also, lets not forget... the Mac Pro is physically quite impressive, and most people are surprised by just how enormous it is at first sight.

In the average person's mind, size = power.

Let them lift it :)

Clearly you guys haven't clapped eyes on an HP Blackbird or a Dell XPS 700-series. In terms of monolithic impressiveness these make the Pro look compact.

My mention of the handles were that it's useful for when - not if - it develops a problem and you have to take it back to a service centre because they don't do on-site support.

The Dell for example doesn't have any convenient handholds and weighs even more than the Pro which makes it an order of magnitude trickier to handle. Fortunately it is very reliable - and in any case, they come to you.

Going to the Dell website does not count as 'checking it out in person' ;) The same goes for the HP.

The Blackbird is impressive. Look at it this way; Apple tried liquid cooling like PCs have enjoyed for years and failed. So they both have something to learn from one another. Case material wise, the Dell and HP should have made it out of light weight aluminium instead of plastic but notwithstanding that, they're pretty potent competition.

This is why it pays to check them out in person instead of being the usual fanboy self. The Dell is actually made out of slightly heavier-gauge aluminium than the Pro and is bigger, which contributes the the considerable weight. The front is plastic and so is the rear - and I'd be the first to admit the front plastic is actually kind of a downer in terms of the way the doors creak - but nevertheless it's all very solid. The Blackbird has a wraparound aluminium chassis similar to the Pro (only I suspect it's investment cast from the way it looked) combined with a cast aluminium foot. Neither are 'gaudy' in the least though.
