Its severely unfair for a low bandwidth user (emails, browsing, social media) to subsidize the usage of a high bandwidth user (youtube, torrents, gaming, netflix).

This is perfectly reasonable.

The solution is that the low bandwidth user buys a low bandwidth plan?

(Or, even better, a nationwide ban on gaming and YouTube - hey, a man can dream)

We are doomed, people will die, and yet another crisis is fabricated by the Left because government ineptness can't pick winners and losers, who no longer have to grovel at the fleet of a nameless bureaucrat. Sorry, but I'll put my trust in innovative entrepreneurs over government regulation anyway.

Does anyone grow weary of the constant crisis narrative? No wonder so many kids are depressed, the irresponsible left must always foment doom.

Five, no, two years from now absolutely no one will care about this. The internet will be faster because industry has an incentive to make it so.

This would be absolutely correct. You couldn't have said it better.

trump-dictator.jpg

Dictator huh? In a free Republic?

Boorish, infantile, self promoting, over the top dramatic, but dictator is silly.

People who say such things are no different than Trump himself.

I had started writing writing a line-by-line reply, but this is literally one non sequitur after another.

What does any of this mean, really?

People who say such things are no different than Trump himself.

Not quite. Trump is a smart guy, I have my doubts that any opponent who calls the guy a dictator is equally smart.

And when those innovative entrepreneurs can’t get their product to market because the unaccountable, unelected corporate regulators decide to prevent it to avoid competition then what will you do?

That's a lame cop out. Try to justify the constant over the top prediction of doom at every decision over the past year by the Left.

Taxes - people will die
Korea - people will die
Jerusalem - people will die
Regulation - people will die
Immigration- people will die
Internet - people will die

The one thing we know that actually does kill people by the millions is government.

Net neutrality, what a freaking riot.

For most of human history almost all of the world’s population has lived under monarchies and dictatorship. There are many people that would like to go back to that so we constantly have to be on the lookout for threats to our freedom like this.

When has that ever happened on the internet? It's ridiculous fear mongering.

Where is the internet restricted? Oh, how about China and North Korea? By whom? GOVERNMENT!

And you want the govenment ot dictate internet here, pick winners and losers, let a few large corporations dominate bandwidth because they grease the skids of politicians, and perhaps even limit content.

Give it a couple months, and you’ll start to see. Before these rules were put in Comcast was throttling Netflix until they paid up. No start up could afford that.

If we could rid ourselves of the monopolies we would have no need for net neutrality, it would be built into the system.

(Not certain of the veracity of this, but if true it shows what a true free market in internet services looks like).

"Lame cop out"? I'm not exactly under an obligation to be your history & economics substitute teacher.

Try to justify the constant over the top prediction of doom at every decision over the past year by the Left.

I don't need to.
Predictions of doom are always accurate.
The world is a ******* and has always been a ******* and will be a ******* next year, too.

The whole idea of "left" (the actual left, not the American far-right Democratic Party) is the possibly utopic idea of changing this before the eventual heat death of the universe.

Taxes - people will die

This one's easy.
https://nypost.com/2017/06/07/1-in-4-americans-refuse-medical-care-because-they-cant-afford-it/

No taxes => no socialized healthcare => people will keep dying because they can't afford medical bills => America still the laughing stock of the first world
\qed.

Proof for the other points: similar, left as an exercise to the reader.

Hint: use the lemmas "nuclear bombs kill people", "people in Gaza ****ing die".
"immigration - people will die" is a particularly interesting one, since there are several non-trivial ways that can cause death, which go from sending people back into hellholes (yes, even worse than America) to breaking families apart, and particularly separating elderly or non-self-sufficient members from caregivers and providers.

The one thing we know that actually does kill people by the millions is government.

I'm sorry, again, what?
Just what?
You have to excuse me, but I was educated in a civilized country, so I'm not familiar with the most inane ******** flying over there, you'll need to bring me up to speed.

Have political dissidents been recently kidnapped and dropped off planes in America too, and by the millions?
That would be new.

Or you mean, like, the idea of government in general?
Because if I remember correctly Mad Max movies don't depict a pleasant reality.

New reports of his administrations activities certainly do point at him being rather dictatorial. Going after people in the government for not being onboard. Censoring language in government reports and documents to suit his agenda. Certainly doesn't sound like freedom.

Where is the internet restricted? Oh, how about China and North Korea? By whom? GOVERNMENT!

1. As long as you have an American passport, you should abstain from painting China and North Korea in a negative light.
2. For that matter, there are several other hundred countries with their respective governments where the internet is more or less "restricted" depending on country. By whom? Oh, right: government. So you see that each government has its policy (OH OH DUH YOU DON'T SAY)

And you want the govenment ot dictate internet here, pick winners and losers

Again: what does this mean?

HRC was a corrupt piece of ****. Sure maybe NN would have survived but she didn’t deserve the presidency either. I pray the American people wake up and demand quality, honest, hard working, proven candidates who have shown through action they care about the American people above all else in future elections. No more of this well they suck but they are on team so I’ll vote for them.
Exactly! The left is spouting all this "Trump is the worst President ever" BS (and maybe he is), but Hilary would have been equally as bad. Instead of Net Neutrality being rolled back, she would have rolled back national security. Come 2018, we would have been f*cked regardless of which of the two party candidates was elected.

***Disclaimer: I whole-heartedly supported Net Neutrality. I don't think this is a left or right issues. It's a consumers vs corporations issue. Trump and the FCC didn't listen to over 80% of Americans, and the corporations won.***

How can you say that a start up can’t get venture capital funding unless it is granted below cost access to bandwidth?
Charging different amounts based on what it being transmitted is not below cost access, it is giving everyone a level playing field.

China is a bastion of internet freedom? Been there many times. No thanks.

Please. This is yet another example of the sky is falling rhetoric. It’s childish but common. Really need to turn off CNN and study civics, the founding and the Constitution.

No it isn’t. Netflix and YouTube suck up far more bandwidth than other users. The answer is more supply, not bogging down what we have now.

Apple for example, is piling up services that require bandwidth. It doesn’t work in airports or on college campus where everyone is streaming useless data. It’s getting worse and worse. I’d like to see content sellers start massive funding for infrastructure before it comes to a grinding halt.

CNN wen't from being near center to going far left after the election. I can't watch that or Fox anymore. We seriously need an unbiased news network, I just wanna know what's going on, I don't care what the reporter thinks...

And the end user pays for that bandwidth. Why should Apple have to pay extra to compete with Comcast’s streaming platform?

CNN didn’t change, the right just went off the deep end, so actually reporting what is going on doesn’t paint them in a positive light.

What erudite country provides the sort of education that resulted in that bizarre screed?

Only government can provide healthcare? Government rations healthcare and makes dupes believe that they are getting a wonderful deal.

You watch CNN don't you...

Assuming you could find a dial up card in 2017. Which as a Mac user wouldn't do you any good since Macs don't come with PCI slots anymore.

Wow, this topic really went down the rabbit hole since someone cherry picked dial-up when DSL was also mentioned, which is absolutely broadband. So what does a PCI slot have to do with anything? Modems are still sold today. They come as external and can connect to any Mac should you be crazy enough to desire such a thing.
