Can I install the Trial of 10.3 while having 10.2.3 installed if I am careful with what libraries are open so I can try it out before committing?

Yes, the trial version is a separate app in the Application folder and you can have a different library for 10.3, if you try to open your old library with 10.3 it even ask you if you want to convert it so you really have to screw something up to screw something up ;)

Installed update today. It looks nice, but sharing master files seems to be much much slower. Using less than two of my 8 cores, instead of the usual 5 or 6.

Did Apple take out the title templates in the recent update?
You mean these?

This update is somewhat weird. Title formats is located up left section...and effects/transition are located on the bottom right section.

It totally weirded me out. it's like they went 50% back to the way it used to be in FCP 7 and earlier.

Its not that weird if you think about it this way: top left is for creating stuff (including clips and projects etc), and bottom right is for modifying you stuff. I think it makes more sense now instead of having them mixed like before, but then again, i don't think the icon was in the wrong place before either so, either way for me.

Hey, that helps a lot! Now I don't have to just use the zoom cursor option.
I plan to give a demonstration of this FCP X update to my college's TV studio director. The update it's gotten has him REALLY considering getting it now (Especially once we get the new 27" iMacs for the video editing lab next year.)

this video is good and all but its very quick. Is there a good video that explains the new features and how to access them? I cant seem to find how to add black or timecode right now :) hate how things have moved. I see effects and transitions, but where are the generators?

Generators are with titles and the top left now. See post #32 for a screenshot.

Will I see a noticeable speed increase when rendering if I upgrade to 10.3 ?

I didn't notice any speed increases, but that just may be me.

Edit: Stabilization seems to be noticeably quicker, but perhaps thats not a render

Today I demonstrated FCP X 10.3 to the TV studio director at my college. He was REALLY impressed with it, even more so than version 10.2. I showed him how to zoom in and out of the timeline (using the keyboard and through the drop-down dialog box above the timeline), how to show two screens in the program, where your project files go, the different types of files it supports, and more. Now he's really into it (five years ago, he wasn't into it at all because it looked too consumer-ish, but now he's warmed up to it quite a bit.) So once the college replaces the old iMacs in the video editing lab with new ones (they're leaning toward the 27" Retina iMacs with 1 TB Fusion drives), they will get FCP X on them as well.

My videos uploading to youtube have no sound. Though the master file export has audio...

I used Quicktime Movie AAC. There is no audio in the master file either.

Fixed

Just needed to place the video in a new time line.
