Fear Of Extinction... Im Trully Afraid

OK well im in the marquet for an i5 mbp, the thing is it appears as Steve has forgotten about laptops and desktops and his only consern being the mobiles and of course $$$ and dont get me wrong im not judging after all he has a buisness to run and money is all, but so is my money.

The thing is im not sure oif getting a mbp now is the best thing to do... and i just cant wait any longer... the only thing keeping me from getting a pc (again ) is that i reaaally want to try mac for once at least, i just dont now if now is he time. im starting indusrial design studies sooon and i know it will the the job but for all the $$$ i want it to do the job and a little bit more...

BTW, Macs have GREAT spell checking capabilities!

english its not my first lenguage and i do speak 3 others lenguages other than spanish Pretty dam good for my 20 years so if you are having trouble reading my post in english. well we can always discuss this in spanish.

Uhh no, not what I've seen at all. If you base your view of the world on these forums, you will get a VERY inaccurate view.

The people on here who claim to be leaving are not pros, but specs whores: people who will buy a system based entirely on the fact that a particular system has bigger/more/higher numbers on a spec sheet.

A real pro, however, knows through experience that this is the worst way to buy anything. Specs can let you down: a faster processor is no good if the OS it runs on crashes frequently. A better GPU won't assuage the fact that your machine is built poorly and falls apart. A cheaper price tag isn't so cheap if you're having to replace your machine much more often over the same amount of time.


Pros who use Macs do so because they serve a specific need way better than any Windows machine can. Sometimes they require the UNIX underpinnings. Other times its the software packages. And, macs just last longer.



"A lot of people" are wrong, as they often are.

Meanwhile, a LOT of people are buying and using Final Cut Studio, Logic Pro, Adobe CS5, and Aperture. These ARE pro apps.

SPEC WHORES hahaha that really made me laugh im sorry if a lot of my conserns sound stupid to you but i have just started getting into technology so yeah my opinion is based on what i read on internet, forums and so on.
If not by reviews what other way is there to get an opinion before buying?
and i do have to accept than numbers make a big impresion on me asi its the only way i have to compare with my little knowledge... but even so im really exited about switching, maybe im just over thinking it, after all i have been following mac movements on the mbp for almost 6 moths... hopefully ill get mine next moth.

Magazine editors are starting rumors that Apple is going out of the Mac business, people here are posting about it, give it up already.

You think Apple is going to stop building Macs in lieu of making way for the iPad and iPhone? Sure, in the future when these devices are capable of replacing computers until then Apple is and will be very much in the business.

What you think Apple is going to tell developers and their Mac client base sorry we don't do laptops and OSX anymore, go by a windows machine.

apple dominates the $999.00+ laptop market...and this worries you? I don't know of any "Pros" that use cheap laptops and I have worked in the entertainment business for the better part of the last 30 years...

So what are you proud of ? Windows ? BSODs ? Registries ? DLL hell ? Driver downloads ? Hahaha and here you are here showing off your 3 language skills while saying Macs haven't been upgraded since the last 7 years. Yeah. Have a drink and get a sodding life.

I remember when the C2D iMacs were released...my G3 350 screen went sepia, and the power supply started to emit steam and spray motor oil. I could have tolerated that, but the ahooga horn alerts and the vintage typewriter font drove me crazy.

You will like working on a MAC. I thought I wouldn’t but after getting mine, I wonder how did I do with out it! Don’t worry about specs, what your getting with a MAC is something that works, and works very good with out any problems.

7 years ago we were waiting for a PB G5. Yeah, no big improvements at all.

+1!! actually it was just five years ago that Apple's best notebook offering was still limited to a single core 1.67Ghz PowerPC G4!!! The first Intel based based MacBook Pro shipped in 2006 with an original Core Duo processor running at only 1.83 Ghz with a woefully obsolete Radeon X1600 GPU. The First intel based Macbook and mac mini also ran with beyond horrific Intel GMA chipsets and shipped with as low as a 1.5 Ghz Core Solo with the mac mini.

We were stuck with the original Core Duo up until nearly 2007. The Core 2 Duo was around for quite awhile but we saw it go from only 2.16 Ghz to 3.06 Ghz in the MBP line in 2.5 years. Besides the CPU improvements we saw even greater improvements with GPU options, battery life, Display quality, build quality and other features. Now we have the core i5 and i7 options in the MBP line which easily outperforms the original Core Duo systems by a magnitude of 3 to 5 times faster!! I would hardly call that static performance and development.

The OP is probably just unaware of the chronology of hardware development on the Mac. It probably would surprise many out there that Dual Processor PowerMacs have been around for well over a decade and have been the norm since 2002. Yes this was back when Dual Core did not even exist and Dual Processor machines in the PC world were almost unheard of. The Quad Core Power Mac of 2005 came onto the scene when the PC world was first getting a glimpse of Dual Core options from Intel and AMD.

Sorry for the rant... I just find it annoying that over the years there have always been people who feel that the Mac was grossly disadvantaged hardware wise. Sure at times things fell behind and sure it was always on the pricey side. Albeit if you look at the hardware and performance objectively and in aggregate the Mac has for the most part has had equivalent and at times superior hardware when compared to the PC/Windows world.
