Dunno if anyone else has seen this but an image has appeared of Flickr of what seems to be an Apple event invite. The weird thing is that it doesn't use the standard Apple font I don't think (although I suppose they could always change) but it seems to be legit since someone who works for a finacial mag has confirmed that they also received one and has posted a full screenshot of it (none of these blurry mobile phone camera images). Could this be when they announce the new iLife and iWork and a beatles deal - it seems to fit the rumours.

I sure hope this is true - i'm excited already! :)

Anyway the links to the pics are:

dont see much...

Sorry for forgetting to put the links in first time everyone. I have added them now. What do people think. Is it legit???

This thing looks pretty good to me - if it is a fake it's a good one. I noticed that the font is different (as did the guy/gal who posted this) but in some ways I think this makes it more likely to be true. The think is that if someone was trying to make a fake they obviously wouldn't use a different font (particularly when there's obviously been quite a lot of attention to detail in it elsewhere) so m guess is that for whatever name Apple has decided to use a different font. It just seems to fit the rumors to have an event now.

A little Time Machine-ish.

Google'd the quote, and one link led to this. Happens to be an excerpt from the song 'Days of long ago' by Auld Lang Syne.

Thoughts?

Auld Lang Syne isn't a band – it's the title of the song, which translates roughly as 'days of long ago'. It's actually a poem written by Robert Burns – thought to be inspired by older folk songs – and is traditionally sung at midnight on New Years Day over on this side of the Atlantic.

As for the invite... looking at the link my first instinct is to say fake. As others have pointed out, the font is wrong and certain features of the design seem very unAppleish to me. But hey, I might be wrong – we'll see in about a week's time.

Fake. Absolutely.

If Apple has an event, this certainly isn't one of the invites. Even if that was a 'standard Apple font' (which it's not), that is probably the ugliest typesetting I've seen in awhile. The leading (space between lines) looks horrible and inconsistent. It looks like the way that Photoshop, or Microsoft Word lays out text, and I would imagine that Apple would use InDesign or maybe Quark to create any professional design.

If this is real, shouldn't the message read "Should old acquaintance be forgotten..." instead of "Should old acquaintance be forgot..."? I guess Apple's done this before with "Think Different," though.

I believe this invitation's fake, but I do think it's very likely that Apple will host an event between now and March.

Just look at the fuzzy bottom of the apple logo on the top right. That single handedly should say something.

Guys, forget about the font. Apple's current font is different from their old one 5 or 6 years ago, so it's not impossible that Apple is changing ther style again. For people to say "omg it's a different font111" is one of the most sophomoric statements ever.

And tuesdays shouldn't be considered the only possible date for release. While the greater majority of Apple announcements have historically been on Tuesdays in the past years, that isn't to say there haven't been announcements on other days.

The other thing is that Apple gives press just a little more than a few days advance notice. It would be all over with confirmations if this were true, and that the 1st was indeed the real date.

Yeah, but they wouldn't go for a worse font, which this is IMO. For Apple's sense of style, the people saying it's a fake is not sophomoric at all.

...

FAKE!!!!

What's your reasoning? Surely it's not that because the invitation is for a Thursday.

In my opinion, Apple's font before the current one was terrible. And in my opinion, this [new?] one is still a good choice. For Apple's sense of style, the "welcome to 2007" banner was an incredible evolution.

I just don't think that commenting on a font is a good enough argument. But that's my opinion.

Looking at it further, besides the crummy apple logo, the bottom portion with the directions is not aligned at all with the top, and waaaay to close to the edges for [good] design. But again, that's my opinion.
