This is different because criminals KNOW that there is 100's of thousands of dollars of merchandise on the truck.

yep. big difference from other valuable equipment that doesn't have its shipment time and location essentially displayed for all the world to see.

Result of apples tightly orchestrated release date scheme as well and supreme secrecy leading to hysteria. It's all apples doing, not the world.

If you believe this, I have some beautiful land to sell you for pennies on the dollar.

Yes, because FedEx daily NEVER carries anything as expensive or as desired as a new iPhone.

This is a particularly conspicuous display of valuable cargo. On a normal day, FedEx might be carrying computers, cell phones, etc. but nobody would know to hit any particular truck (unless it were an inside job). On the 24th, it will be public knowledge that every FedEx truck will have a whole lot of valuable cargo.

that's over $200,000 a pallet, with several pallets going to each location.

if you tried to hit it before local distribution, how many pallets in a 58 foot long truck? if we take 30% of a truck's capacity, i bet 20-30 pallets would fit.

now how much is that?

What if someone hijacked that FedEx flight out of Hong Kong with all the iPhones?

I totally agree with you, I think it's a good thing. Especially cuz i don't want my fed ex driver to get jacked so i don't get an iPhone! Lol

Based on what is going on out in the World if I were Mr. FedX Man, I would want S.W.A.T with me, not worth getting killed for someone else's phone, no way.

it's a great example to show people how cash dense a shipment of iphones is. there are no trucks full of cabbage patch dolls and a single iphone. what we have here is a single launch day with some stores getting as much as 2,000 phones. from the ipad launch, apple sends an equal number of models, so that is 1,000 16gb and 1,000 32gb models.

now there will probably be rolling shipments throughout the day, by pallet. how many phones can fit on a pallet? my guess is 10x5 per layer, maybe 7 layers tall. that's 175 16gb and 175 32gb phones.

I am Vp of operations for a very large trucking company. The longest trailer in AMERICA thats allowed is 53ft they have a 48ft also. A PUP is 32ft 4 western states allow 3 pups to be hauled at the same time, the rest of the states is 2. DO you know anything about a pallet? a Normal pallet in a 53ft trailer can be pin wheeled or chimeny blocked totalling 36 pallets. depens on how apple packages there iphone is how it would be put on a pallet. Apple would not put 1 iphone package they would have to be in bigger boxes to be able to get to stay on the pallet.

You guys are freaking retarded. Who cares about the iphones? Im sure Fedex doesnt. They ship way more expensive stuff than iphones. They have insurance for **** that goes missing. They lose tons of packages every year. Fedex truck wreck and scatter packages all over highways. You guys make this whole iphone thing like it is a big deal. Its not.

Some of you guys have your head so far up your ass to think that the iphone is the one thing that everyone wants and the 24th is some type of D-day. Its not. The EVO was a huge hit and backordered and they didnt have any armed security guards. An audio/video company I used to install for had hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment delivered on a single day. This iphone delivery thing really is not a big deal.

Divide 600,000 phones into the entire WORLD worth of pre-orders...how many do you think are on a single truck route? I guess someone is gonna pull a 'Fast and the Furious' move and hijack a single route Fedex truck that might have 10 phones.

enlighten us! i'm sorry for getting 48 and 53 foot trucks confused.
now are you saying they can put more or less? or does the vp of some "trucking operation" have no idea as to how to ship boxes?

hint: if you say more, then you have serious reading comprehension problems.

I was thinking the same thing after the post, when I saw your post I couldn't stop laughing. :D

This would pf been Tony sopranos or john gotti's dream dream. They would not knock off the fedex guys. They would hijack the tractor trailer or held up the loading dock at jfk or Newark airport lol I guess that's why they fly to Alaska?

There has not been a more publicly known shipment of electronics in history I'm betting. Down to the flight number lol
