Sounds like the FTC is concerned that there may be some kind of wardrobe malfunctions in the board room.

Good, they can also ask about Google's "gentleman's agreement" not to use multi-touch in Android. To me, this seems like an agreement that is anti-competition. As for the "iPhone patent" in regards to multi-touch, it's either you have a patent or you don't. But, having to ask a competitor not to implemenent a competitive feature seems kind of fishy.

And you have any proof any of this happened?

So, if it is Apple and Google, then its OK but if its Microsoft, its not...

This a great investigation. For as justifiably vilified as Microsoft is on the Apple Fan-boy boards, Google is the new and future Evil Empire. Its plan to control or significantly influence your lives is as scary as Microsoft has ever been. Heck, Microsoft's reach is only 90% of the market and shrinking, whereas Google is virtually at 100% and will continue to expand into new areas as time goes on.

Google is like the 'Chrystal Meth' of the internet. And when we are all hooked, then what? Do you really trust a large, multinational corporation with massive profits...to do good deeds? Really? Once you've gone to gmail, Google Docs, and you do Google searches, they then have the capability to have a level of understanding of your life that Microsoft NEVER had. And that doesn't bother any of you? Really?

You didn't trust Microsoft and you shouldn't trust Google.

Maybe a lil' "conspiracy theory" is involved here, but a valid point nonetheless... ;)

You may be right but

Maybe a lil' "conspiracy theory" is involved here, but a valid point nonetheless... ;)

The US Government has already asked Google to assist with spying on Americans in conjunction with the Patriot Act...and they said 'No'....this time. At least, they said ...'they said 'No" '. Microsoft scared me because they controlled my work environment but Google has much, much more capabilities. And in an recent Frontline program on the NSA, it was revealed that the NSA is monitoring much of our telephony in conjunction with ATT. I would love to know if the NSA has a 'special room' at Google's headquarters like they do at the ATT facility in San Francisco.

Very interesting but this is one of those rare occasions where I can quote myself, again... ;)

Oh so it's speculation, alright.

Like 99% of the information on the internet, there will never be "proof" of this agreement (unless you were one of the people making the agreement). And, in all likeliness, I'm sure no one will ever be able to dig-up "proof" of such an agreement as it would likely be legally frowned upon.

I'm not afraid of The Google. I have never given them a cent. As for their consumer profiling efforts, this really isn't anything new in the arena of advertising - it's been going on for 100s of years - it's now just more digital.

Anyone who is afraid of The Google, just quit using them to search stuff and don't download any of their software. That's it - no more Google in your life.

It's about time. Like it or not, Google and Apple have begun to make competing products, and members of one company's board of directors should not be serving on the other's.

Doesn't Janet Jackson have a second nipple that hasn't been seen yet?

Seriously, if the FCC wants to look into something, maybe they should ask why Google owns half of everything. If you own the top search engine and top Internet site in terms of traffic, DUH, there will be some interaction.

Here's a better one: Maybe, just maybe, the FCC could say search engines gotta pony up some of that advertising dough they make when people get content from elsewhere. Google and Yahoo make a bunch of money on ads when you type in certain words, but they don't produce one lick of the content. Meanwhile, the content creators (ahem, newspapers) are going broke. Same could be said about YouTube, which is mostly clips of copyrighted stuff that isn't on there legit. I know because I used to have a coworker who would watch 15,000 music videos and Access Hollywood clips that looked straight off a VCR.

I'm happy, that I'm not an American, nor do I live in the US. :)

Take off the tin foil hat, it scares people away, keep using Yahoo...

That's my only advice.

Youtube sharing built into iMovie, Google Search built into Safari, Google Maps built into iPhoto/iPhone...? "Highly integrated" was a bit hyperbolic, but still, it's there.

(gasp), and Facebook is integrated with iPhoto, as is Flickr, so, by following your logic, Apple should be investigated for being "highly integrated" with Yahoo! (who own's Flickr) and that twit who I guess runs Facebook as well? Let's have the US government get to the bottom of all these fake anwarranted ties, like they're not blowing enough of American's hard-earned tax dollars on other frivolous things (supported banks who give their top people billions of tax payer money or Detroit automakers who haven't made a decent car in decades).

Where's the outrage that Microsuck has contracts to just about every PC maker to push their crappy OS onto the public? Or Internet Explorer being integrated into the browser? Oh, that's right, they WERE investigated but then they paid off the top people in the former Bush administration to conveniently sweep that under the rug. It's always okay if Microsoft does anti-competitive things because they're the golden boys despite never innovating really and just following Apple/others, but if it's Apple or Google (who innovate and everyone follows) then that innovation needs looking into, no boat rockers or successes in the States, it makes those status quote champions of mediocrity, i.e. Microsuck, their buyers, the politicians, all look bad.
