This shouldn't come as any surprise given that it's already the 20th of October, but Apple has no plans to hold an event to introduce new products this month. Apple software engineering chief Craig Federighi confirmed there will be no October event in an email to MacRumors reader Luke.

"Will we see an October keynote event?" Luke asked. "I think we're all Keynoted out for the season! :)" Federighi replied.

Some people were expecting an event to take place this October because there was a Mac-centric event in October of 2016 that saw Apple unveil the Macbook Pro with Touch Bar, but there have been no rumors of a second 2017 event, nor are there any new products on the immediate horizon.

iPads and Macs were both refreshed in June, and while Apple is still planning to introduce the HomePod and the iMac Pro this year, those products are set to debut in December.

Apple is not likely to hold an event for the release of the HomePod or the iMac Pro as the two devices were previously introduced in June at the Worldwide Developers Conference. Instead, Apple will probably launch both via a press release, with no additional events to take place in 2017.

Aside from a "December" debut date listed for both the HomePod and the iMac, there's no further word yet on when we might see them during the month.

As the notification slides in on his Mac and he see's he's gotten yet another email from a MR reader, a single tear rolls down Craig's cheek. A single tear that suddenly becomes a uncontrollable flood.

"I can't take it anymore, Gina" he says to his fish, Gina, in her fishbowl on his desk "the nerds on Mac Rumors keep emailing me and asking me questions. I don't know the answers to half of this stuff, I'm just in charge of software".

But still the notifications roll in...

"Craig, what is Apple going to do with that barn?"

"Craig, will Apple release a new phone next year?"

"Craig, I prefer Touch ID to Face ID"

"Craig, when is Apple going to invent a new colour?"

Craig gets up from his desk. "Gina, I'm going to take a walk & I may be some time" he says as he leaves.

Craig was never seen again.

I feel like we are going to see some product refreshes next month that aren't enough to have an event. I think we'll see an event in January for the update for the iMac Pro (for how its doing), Mac Mini, Mac Pro unveiling and a looooonnnnggg shot the iPhone SE refresh.

WWDC = June each year
Mac laps: updated last October
iPads: updated last June-ish
iPhone: updated this month.
iOS/MacOS: updated this month.

What's left?

I thought they would have a small event where they explain the HomePod a bit more, especially after the Alexa integration with Sonos. So far we don’t know if it is a ‘smart speaker’ like the Echo or Google Home, or if it is just a ‘smart’ speaker with Siri acting as the musicologist but without something like Alexa skills.
When I read the product page I suspect it’s the latter, but a bit more clarification would be nice (especially when it’s priced at $349).

When was the last time there was an October event? The iPad announcement? It's been a long time.

We know that. They made it incredibly clear, this is a home music device. It happens to have Siri for picking music and some other functionality but the main focus is music.

Look at the HomePod webpage if you're unclear. They spend almost all of it highlighting the music element. Not until the bottom do they talk about Siri. The page too makes it clear what the intention of the device is.

They don't need another event to explain that. They already did.

The Creative Summit happens in Cupertino, October 27-29, so I wouldn't be surprised to see an update to FCPX...so that's something to look forward to...

Literally last October, for the Touch Bar MacBook Pros.
[doublepost=1508511378][/doublepost]I don’t know why people are surprised that there won’t be another event for iMac Pro and HomePod before they launch. Why do you think they were previewed so early? Because Apple knew back in June that they wanted just one event in the fall, and the whole season to be all about iPhone X.

The press will receive private briefings and demos for iMac Pro and HomePod towards the end of November/early December and then the first units will start shipping before the new year. Happens all the time.

I’m not so sure. Why delay it until December when they already had working demo units this Summer? It’s just a speaker - nothing really complicated in terms of the components used or getting it manufactured.

So there must be a valid reason for the delay. My guess is it’s software related, perhaps a Siri update to enhance its capabilities as a smart speaker. Or a major update involving AirPlay 2 and multi room sound, or integration with HomeKit.

I emailed Steve Jobs many times, with no response. I've emailed Tim Cook, and have once received a personal response, and two other times a call back from Apple. The two phone calls resulted in things being straightened out for minor issues that were taking too long locally.
