Long story short like many of us, we won't be at home to sign for the package.

Ordered mine through Verizon and will deliver at my billing address Friday, where no one is home to sign for the package.

I contacted Verizon immediately after I placed the order, and I was told to either 1. call FedEx or 2. create a FedEx account to put a hold at the hub for pickup instead of delivery.

I already have an account set up, but once I received the tracking and added it to my account, "Customize Delivery" was grayed out - so I called FedEx.

Now, FedEx's call center tells me "there wasn't enough information" for them to change to hold at the hub. Not sure what to believe because I've also read in other threads where people have successfully done so.

So my question is: For those in the same predicament, have any of you successfully changed the delivery (for this Friday) to be held at a hub instead? If so, who did you contact - FedEx or Verizon (or your network).

Thanks all.

Wait until the day before delivery and see if they give you that option then. If it's too early they probably can't do much about it.
And at this point you definitely want to contact the courier and not Verizon about delivery arrangements.

The trucks are usually back at the customer center by about 6pm. I always go home to get the door tag and then head to the customer center to pickup the package. Our local center is open until 7.

Has the package been scanned as in FedEx Possession? You can't change delivery until that happens.

According to my tracking, it's in a local facility in Memphis, TN.

Yeah, that has happened before to my iPhone 5, which I'm trying to avoid being the hub might be cutting it close to get there by the time I get out of work on a Friday during rush hour. Crossing my fingers I can get a hold of someone to be able to hold it at the hub.

Fedex has to attempt one delivery before you have any options for a hold or other requests.

Incorrect.

Just like UPS, you can hold at the facility or have it re-routed to a store (FedEX store). I did this when I ordered my MacBook Pro w/Touchbar just recently. Had it held at a FedEX store because I would not have been home. Picked it up at lunch. Good to go!

Ok if that's your experience, whenever I've had Apple products sent Fedex I've always been told no hold can be made until a delivery attempt, even the options on the site were unavailable until 1st attempt was made. Only with UPS have I been able to hold before delivery was attempted

It’s usually the carrier policy to require 1 delivery with fedex. I know that’s he case with Verizon.

I'm telling you one delivery attempt is needed before you can hold or make any changes with Fedex

I'm not completely doubting you, but I'm also reading up on other threads about how they are able to change it, whether it was contacting FedEx or Verizon directly, to be able to hold it at the hub. Whether they're bs'ing or not, that's why I created the thread to get some "confirmation" from those who have been able to do so.

Yea I understand I'm just telling you what may happen from my experiences. It's entirely possible you'll get lucky in this case, and you will be able to do the hold.

Definitely. I'm just hoping I can get through to someone who would allow that. Because I had an experience before, where I just missed a delivery, and I called FedEx, and the rep called the driver and asked where he was, and I met up with him on his next route. It seem more out of the ordinary than normal, but they were able to make exceptions - so I'm hoping there's someone out there that I can get a hold of that would go above and beyond.

This is correct and it is a policy Verizon has with FedEx.
I spoke with FedEx today. One attempt has to be made before you can request a different pickup location.

You can post a note on your door authorizing FedEx to leave the package if you are not home.

Not really the case with Apple.com orders. When I ordered stuff from Apple and they ship via Fedex, I was able to request a hold for pick up and they never delayed or 1st attempt made. When I requested hold for pick up it automatically redirects to my closest Fedex Office Ship and Print that I choose. I've done this for the 8 Plus, 7 Plus, 6S Plus and all of them did not delay at all. And the request for hold for pick up was available right when I got the tracking number.

This is absolutely correct. Fed Ex will not do anything until one attempt had been made. This is due to instructions from Verizon.

I guess some have gotten lucky or exceptions for whatever reason, unfortunately that’s was never the case for me and my Apple products. Always a first attempt needed for me.

Lol ok that’s great you do realize certain arrangements make holding not possible for certain circumstances right?

I guess it's Verizon that is making Fedex do a first delivery attempt. But not from apple.com. Orders directly from apple.com can be requested hold for pick up even without the first attempted being made. I always order from apple.com and never had issues with this.

I’ve actually not had the experience with Verizon this happened to me with an iPhone through apple.
