Fedex has to attempt one delivery before you have any options for a hold or other requests.
Not true. I have picked up previous iPhone pre-orders from my FedEx sorting facility, on release day, with no delivery attempts. You have to call them before it gets there, otherwise it might get put on a truck and then it’ll be too late.

Like I’ve said others it seems to have worked for while others weren’t so lucky. Numerous times I’ve not had the option and been told only after first attempt.

Thanks for the replies guys. Not trying to incite arguments here, but I’m glad some have had luck before to do so. I’m hoping to be one of the lucky ones when I keep trying this week :)

Apple does have a block on Hold for pick up for fraud reasons. If you were able to hold you got very lucky! Many Tech Companys do this to protect them self. 99% of the time you need to wait for the first attempt. You can log in and try to do it however you will see the option is grayed out as well.

Fedex sucks as many of us know.
Best bet is calling Fedex and speaking with a Supervisor to see what your options are. Don’t just speak to an associate as your wasting your time
Remember get hold of a Supervisor

The supervisor will tell you the same thing the system won't allow them to do but you can have them message the driver and tell them people are stealing your packages SO please do not leave at door or it's a gift for someone at home and you dont want them to get it. so leave note to drop off at next door or leave at neighbors that home.

B.S. there’s a huge line at evey UPS hub on release day with people getting their iPhones. Apple will not allow UPS drivers to leave a package without a signature for security reasons.

hmmm; i need to ask:
I wonder what happens if a signature Fedex or UPS pkg is addressed to a standard USPS POBox? USPS now accepts package delivery from 3rd party shippers. You see Fedex and UPS trucks at the local post office early 5am.

Apple 110% blocks hold for pick up!! Your one dude saying no when we have a number of people agreeing. I know for a fact this is often for many high-end products. SO IF YOU GOT LUCKY doesn't mean it applies to the rest of us.

However, UPS does hold not sure if you can place block like fedex can.

Edit anyone that got FedEx to hold are you in a small town maybe?

Must be why there’s 40-50 people picking up ttheir Apple iPhones at the UPS hub every release day. Apple doesn’t use Fedex, the carriers do. Apple like all high tech companies, needs to have a signature for delivery. It’s actually more secure at a hub where they also need an id. UPS even stores the phones in a secure locker at the hub.

I just said not sure about UPS. That maybe true. However, The topic was about fedex. It's good to know UPS lets you do it! Great input!

Yes they should hold at desk for you they will sign. unless they don't ship to PO BOX again up to shipper.

you now can address a standard post office box as:
Joe Smith
2245 Main Street
unit 766
Boston MA 80444

where "2245 is the street address of your post office
and
"unit 766" is your box number

instead of "unit" you can use apartment or office...

Hmm I guess I'm in the 1% that everytime I order something from Apple and ships via Fedex, I always request a hold for pick up and always goes to my nearest fedex print and ship center directly for me to pick up without any issues. When I check the tracking page after the destination scan and facility sort scan it goes directly to the local Fedex Print and Ship center.

I know that for phones ordered not directly from Apple but from the carrier stores specifically blocks the hold for pick up and only made it available after first attempt.
