Ok. You know the news only tells half the story. How close are they to the La Jolla (UCSD) area? My wife went to school out there.

Right now they are about 40 miles away (there may be some smoldering areas closer but nothing thats not contained).

At one point the fires were about 10-15 miles from La Jolla (Rancho Santa Fe) but then the winds changed and sent the fires back to Ramona/Julian area where they started.

Here are some really good local maps...

They are not that close to UCSD, about 15-20 miles north of La Jolla.

Also I plan on going to fashion valley apple store to pick up my copy because I was going to pick it up at SDSU but we're shut down. I've never bought anything from the apple store trying to use an educational discount. How do I get my educational discount? Just bring my student ID?

Thanks for the info...

Me too... kind of sad - but it definitely put a damper on my day... when an OS delivery delay bums you out you know your a little to addicted to your Mac :)

Please do not use your present OS to fire off angry emails to FedEx insisting they terminate the employment of your local driver just in case the urge to feed your perception of addiction gets the best of you between now and whenever you get a copy of Leopard. ;)

The physical stores offer edu discount with your school ID, on hardware.

However, software they do not sale at edu discount in the retail stores. You'll have to pay $129. However, $116 isn't that much lower after all.

I called the Fashion Valley store and they said they were accepting edu discounts on Leopard in store. Maybe I talked to a moron, but he did go check and then come back online. Give 'em a call is all I can say

...unless you preordered it for $70 from UCSD bookstore, which is still closed. Had to deal with the fires last weekend, now this weekend have to deal with no Leopard.:(

Well you can certainly look at it this way or you can look at it another way. While I am confused that FedEx would have to halt delivery and UPS would not, I can also understand the flight risks involved. The smoke is so thick around here that it is causing issues with a lot of people not to mention businesses are working feverishly to find a solution to improve air quality indoors by using filters, room ionizers, etc. The fact is there could be good reason for a plane to not be able to land in San Diego Airport even though the fires aren't nearby. It could be a flight path happens to go through the abundant smoke. Who knows. I'm not in aviation and I wouldn't really know how this would affect a plane.

I do believe however, that it is so very sad that you or anyone else has to go an entire weekend without Leopard due to the situation with the fires. It is really sad because some people just have to go without a house for the weekend but I have so much trouble swallowing the idea that you may have to miss out on Leopard for 2 days. If there is anything that I can personally do to help you PM me. I believe the donation stations are still open in LA, OC, SB, and SD counties and while I've hit them up once, I can certainly help by delegating some of that cash towards your issue and buy you a few drinks or something to get you through the rough Leopard-deprived weekend. :) Let me know.
