I did the same thing. I bought one on a whim, even before I knew really anything about it. The guilt ate at me for a few days, so I returned it. A month later, I bought one again because I missed it so much and realized I really did like it. Now my current iPad 2 and I are blissfully happy. Walked out of the store with it confident knowing I really wanted it. As my mother always said to me growing up, if you want something, wait a week, if you still want it, get it.
Oh and also, I have an iPhone 4 and I love having both. I didn't get 3G iPad, so when I need to use the internet, I either tether or look up what I need on my phone.
