Feral Interactive announced today that F1 2016 is coming to the Mac on April 6 and has been refined using Apple's new graphics API, Metal.

F1 2016 is Codemasters' official game for the 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship and features extensive online multiplayer game modes that allow players to compete against up to 21 rivals on any of the 21 Grand Prix circuits.

"It's been three years since a new F1 game graced the Mac and a lot has happened since then," said David Stephen, managing director of Feral. "F1 2016 is a massive step forward for the franchise, greatly improving upon the fastest and most thrilling on-track racing experience in gaming."
At the heart of the game is an all-new career mode that Feral is calling the most immersive, in-depth mode ever featured in the franchise, and lets players pursue legendary status in the sport over up to ten back to back Formula One seasons.

The game includes the iconic Safety Car and Virtual Safety Car, the paddock, key figures from the world of F1 and all the drivers, teams and circuits. Players can also experience the height of the pre-race tension and feel the pressure of the all-important start with the introduction of the Formation Lap and manual starts.

The minimum system requirements for F1 2016 are a 2.8GHz Intel Core i5 processor running macOS 10.12.4, 8GB of RAM and a 2GB NVIDIA 680, AMD R9 280M, Intel Iris 540 or better. The recommended system requirements are a 3.3GHz Intel Core i7 processor running macOS 10.12.4, 16GB of RAM and a 4GB AMD R9 395X or better.

F1 2016 will be available through the Feral Store and Steam for $59.99 (£39.99) and available on the Mac App Store for $49.99 (£48.99).

Look at those requirements. I used to play the previous release at Med-High Settings but now my 2012 MBP doesn't even qualify for the minimum..

True, but it's worth remembering that the last F1 game for Mac was in 2012! :)

Equally frustrating for me, if misery needs company. I'm a massive F1 fan but no way my 2012 15" cMBP would handle this game.

I have the exact same one, if we could just upgrade the GPU then the MBP would handle it with ease.

Then its high time you update your computer as its 5 years old, What did you expect.
Eventually I will do, I am waiting for a new MPB, but this grandpa is still very powerful for video editing, which is it's main usage.

System requirements mean only top end Macs will qualify to run it. The graphics card requirements are the killer. Furthermore the number of Macs out there with Intel Core 2 Duo 3.6GHz CPU's are a plenty such as my 21.5" Late 2009 iMac.

The minimum requirements do seem rather high given the claim that the game has been optimised for the Metal API. I'd understand if it was just a lazy port job.

Released 18th August 2016 on the PC, so within the 2016 season......
More precisely, five months after the 2016 season started. No matter how hard you wish for it, there is still no game covering the 2017 season and there won't be for months to come.

I'm not a racing fan, but it is very interesting since it is the first racing game using Metal.
Can't wait for Deus EX

A 4GB graphics card LOL. Less than 5% of all Macs currently in use have that. And I might be generous. Probably less than 2 percent.
You can use and eGPU with any Thunderbolt Mac (2011), making it a great gaming machine considering the years. www.egpu.io

It's precisely the same money you'd pay for the Windows version of the game, which is still the most current release of the franchise: F1 2017, covering the latest season, isn't even announced.
Doesn't mean it’s the same game. We’ll have to wait and see if the Mac port has the same functionality.

Also the article quotes;
F1 2016 will be available through the Feral Store and Steam for $59.99 (£39.99) and available on the Mac App Store for $49.99 (£48.99). The game is also for pre-order on Feral's official store.
You cannot buy the winodws version on the Mac (Cr)App Store. What else will be available in that port I wonder.

For those disappointed by the minimum requirements - F1 2016 is also available on the AppStore, so most of you can play it on iOS/tvOS. I know it's not the same experience, but it's better than nothing.
