I think it’s time to open a thread dedicated to the FIFA World Cup - Qatar 2022.

First match is Qatar - Ecuador on Sunday November 20.

What is your prediction?

England won’t do well. It will be blamed on the weather, time of year and amount of games we play in the PL.
I’ll refrain from posting my comments about the country it’s being played in.

Yeah Italy is out so I’ll have to root for the US, hope they can get at least to the quarter finals.

Rooting for Ecuador, but I think Argentina will win it this time: even not taking Messi into account, their squad is loaded. Definitely a few very strong contenders such as Brazil, France, and Portugal (if they keep Ronaldo on the bench). Spain and Denmark are still legit dark horses. Belgium, Germany and England have missed their windows.

I feel like this time Argentina is going to win the match. I've been a massive fan of Lionel Messi for a long time and He is regarded as the best football player of his generation. One of the best in the history of the sport. I am looking forward to all the Argentina matches. since I am outside the UK, I will stream all the matches online. I am especially excited about Argentina Vs Mexico Match on 26th November.

I expect England to get out of the group but I really don't feel we'll go very far in the tournament this time. I also think that Southgate will go following the tournament.

My main focus will be on club football though as League 1 isn't stopping during the tournament so Ipswich are still playing.

Agree re the outlook for England.

Agree, also, re the country that is hosting the tournament.
Wise choice as will I - and I think we probably would make the same comments.
Yes, agreed.
Not excited at all. I’m going to stay away from the games and boycott the entire thing.
And again, I agree.

Precisely because - firstly - I would probably find myself in complete agreement with the (possible remarks of) posters who have refrained from posting comments about the host country, - my remarks would not be remotely positive - and secondly, this is not a typical time of the year to play a World Cup competition, (and, although I am in favour of the Nordic idea of some sort of a winter break, I dislike the lengthy disruption of the standard football season that this particular World Cup competition will cause), I find it hard to summon any real excitement.

Don’t they always? But I think the warmer climate will favour a team from a similar climate. Argentina maybe? Or Spain?
I believe so. You made a very good point about the climate. Honestly, I really want some other country to win that has never won a Fifa world cup before. However, hard work and consistency play a huge role.

Italia 90’s official song, lyrics in three languages. IMO the best World Cup of all despite those damn penalties vs Argentina (which are in the video; I vividly remember that night). Also, by far the best, most romantic World Cup song.
