Filming for the fourth season of popular Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso has started in Kansas City, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced today.

Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis confirmed that a fourth season was being written back in March. He suggested there would be new characters and a new storyline, with the show taking place in the United States. Titular character Ted Lasso will be coaching a women's soccer team, a departure from the UK men's team featured in the initial three seasons.

Apple released the third season of the show in March 2023, so there has already been a two-year pause between season three and season four. There is no word yet on when filming will finish, or when season four will launch.

Ted Lasso is one of Apple's most popular TV shows, and the first three seasons have won several awards. In the series, Sudeikis plays a college football coach from Kansas who is hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, even though he has little experience with soccer.

Season three wrapped up with Ted Lasso returning home, in what seemed to be a series finale. Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham recently told Variety that reviving the show for season four was akin to exhuming the corpse of a beloved dog that had been buried. She said she wanted to know what happened to her character, so she's "thrilled that it’s been exhumed."

Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, and Juno Temple are all in the image that Cook shared today. It's unclear if other cast members are set to return.

Enjoyed this show immensely in the first season, although the basic plot wore a bit thin over time. But, it was still funny and worked, sort of, until the final season ended. Moving it to the US takes away even the basic idea and will make it a complete waste of time for me. So I think it should have finished where it did and resurrecting it seems like they are trying to milk it rather than develop it. Unfortunately for me Jason Sudeikis is not that funny without a solid supporting cast and the dry British wit was a great way to make his somewhat dull humor work. I hope it works for some, but for me it is done and now I have seen an outline of what they intend to do with the story I definitely will not be watching it.

Because you’re not the only person on earth.
Every show should only have one viewer, this person and then cancelled if he doesn’t like it lol. That’s how it works right?

My wife and I watched the first two seasons but stopped a couple into season three. I think they should have let it end but it was highly acclaimed and they seem enthused to make more so maybe it’ll be good.

I felt the first season was spectacular, while 2 & 3 felt a bit uneven at times, but it had a very satisfying ending to me. As a TV Industry worker, I can confidently say studio politics are oppressive monsters, but I feel like this is the best way to bring a show back. What happened in London is its own story now, with a full arc. The worst thing they could have done was destroy all the arcs of Season 3 and reset the status quo. This really feels like it'll be a different show with the same characters, and I'm fine with that. Taking a concept in a new direction doesn't always need to nullify the endings that came before. And honestly I could use a bit more Ted Lasso positivity in my life again.

Everyone told me to watch Season 1. Super meh.
Then everyone told me to watch Season 2. Gave up halfway.

I don't understand why this show keeps getting renewed.

Like super meh opinions, the more voices the better. Some might be meh to some people, and it’s ok to ignore that.

Watched them all, twice. It's a great show that had a fine ending. I feel like it was wrapped and S4 is unnecessary.

I think there’s a possibility that you’re right, but with an open mind: I think they did a great job telling a story, beginning, middle, and end by plan. And they let it die on purpose. And now a new story with its own beginning, middle, and end is going to be told with the same characters. And that’s different from continuing a story that already ended.

The only stadium in the world built for a women's sports team (the Kansas City Current soccer team) is in Kansas City. I'd love to see Ted be coach of a fictional version of that team and have season 4 mostly set in Kansas City.

I swear season three was the last season? Did I change timelines again? Did they not say it was over?

I gave it shot just because of the hype, barely made it through season 1. I’m sure they’re out there but I personally have never heard of anyone else in real life watching it
The show is quite bad, cringe and just terrible. Couple that with the actors that are supposed to be athletes yet are incredibly out of shape and it's difficult to watch.

Much like ol' Ted went to England to learn about the other football, another thing Americans could learn from the UK is that it's ok for a show to end! A few seasons can be enough. (Speaking as an American who enjoys a lot of BBC/Channel 4 shows that frequently only have 2-3 or so seasons...)

They aren't moving it to the US. The team flew in from the UK to recruit him, which would explain the local diner. They are following up on the story they left open at the end of S3, and all the new cast are British. They literally advertised that Ted is returning to Richmond.

Fair response and a good perspective. I will remain open to the show, given my enjoyment of S1-3, but I would have been fine with it ending completely.

Whatever Jason Sudeikis said in March, the most up-to-date information says the women's team will be in the U.K. Several London-based characters are returning, which wouldn't make sense if S4 were set in the U.S.

Filming has reportedly begun in Kansas City, which would fit because Ted moved back there at the end of S3.

“He suggested” isn’t anything concrete. As per Variety, The official logline for Season 4 states, “Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team.”

I’m seeing concurring reports about it in the UK Independent and the Guardian.
