Everyone told me to watch Season 1. Super meh.
Then everyone told me to watch Season 2. Gave up halfway.

I don't understand why this show keeps getting renewed.
I mean comparable to most Netflix series, this one is at least more or less fun and not focused over some softcore bs. Too football/soccer focused for sure (not a fan of this sport myself) but still ok. It is a type of show I would recommend to average person without feeling guilt that I recommended some arthouse-ish 💩.

But gotta be honest, most shows in 2025 are very depressing and dark, poorly color graded, have boring plot and in general don’t have something I call “vibe”. Take any show from 90s and now, incomparable. Shows from 90s were cheesy, yes. But at least those were captivating and “lured it” to watch for longer

I will give it a go but I’m not thrilled about the change of location
I wonder how many of the original cast will be in it and how they will shoehorn the returning cast in to the story.

They wrapped the whole thing up very well at the end of season three
This reeks of desperation.
Which seems to be the train that Apple are on recently.

Filming for the fourth season of popular Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso has started in Kansas City, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced today.

Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis confirmed that a fourth season was being written back in March. He suggested there would be new characters and a new storyline, with the show taking place in the United States. Titular character Ted Lasso will be coaching a women's soccer team, a departure from the UK men's team featured in the initial three seasons.

Apple released the third season of the show in March 2023, so there has already been a two-year pause between season three and season four. There is no word yet on when filming will finish, or when season four will launch.

Ted Lasso is one of Apple's most popular TV shows, and the first three seasons have won several awards. In the series, Sudeikis plays a college football coach from Kansas who is hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, even though he has little experience with soccer.

Season three wrapped up with Ted Lasso returning home, in what seemed to be a series finale. Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham recently told Variety that reviving the show for season four was akin to exhuming the corpse of a beloved dog that had been buried. She said she wanted to know what happened to her character, so she's "thrilled that it’s been exhumed."

Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, and Juno Temple are all in the image that Cook shared today. It's unclear if other cast members are set to return.

I accessed the forum when this article had received 30-some comments. Always kills me when people react with posts which in principle state “I cannot believe how blue can be someone’s favorite color” … 😊

Oh no. No no no! Taking place in the United States? Why? The charm of the show was it taking place in Britain! American fish out of water! I loved Ted Lasso and was elated to hear a fourth season was going to be produced. But setting a fourth season in the United States is just going against what made the show so funny and special! Stupidity. And if/when it flops, then what? Hate to see this show go out on a disastrous 4th season. I’m gutted to hear this unfortunate development.

EDIT: Okay. This article Hollywood Reporter - Ted Lasso Fourth Season dated July 21st, says it will take place back in Britain again. Thank goodness. Macrumors got it wrong!

To be honest, I think if they were to continue Ted's story, it shouldn't be soccer again. They should move him to Canada to do Ice Hockey, or to Australia to do AFL.

A huge part of why S1 was stronger than the others, was that Ted knew nothing about the sport and had to learn, while adapting to a new culture. A much more violent or high-contact sport like Hockey or AFL would conflict with his naive and friendly personality which would make for more interesting humour and the culture in Canada (and especially Australia) is different enough to add to the story.

They should also stick to 30 minute episodes. Doubling the length of episodes in S3 was a real drag. The show works best when it's tightly scripted and edited.

He didn't say he likes watching Foundation (or most other Apple shows, I believe).
Saying he likes watching every single show Apple TV+ has been involved in isn't realistic PR. Ted Lasso was Apple's first hit for TV+.

I will always cherish Ted Lasso's season one, it's beautiful and heartwarming and fun for infinite rewatches.
Season two stumbled but was still very good show, while season three was unfortunately not my cup of tea and haven't rewatched it ever since akin to Game of Thrones season eight, what is dead my never die or as Jon Snow says "I don't want it".

I'd highly recommend "Trying", another beautiful Apple TV's British show that has kept its quality and "Slow Horses"!

The story had a closure.
Now extending it feels just for the sake of having anything semi- popular in the catalog.

Good to hear about an official renewal for the show. With filming just starting, not expecting it to air in the next 12 months.

I absolutely love the series. I’ve enjoyed immensely. I’m looking forward to next season even though it’s going to take a different direction. It was just pleasant to watch.

I absolutely hate football, so wasn’t overly optimistic when my brother suggested we watch Ted Lasso, but I really enjoyed it and it’s one of my favourite TV Shows.

Not sure how I feel about Season 4 being in America. Was hoping ALL of the previous cast would return and be in it long-term. That might not be the case, which would be disappointing. Is it still the same show as a result? Will have to wait and see.

The first season was pretty good. Season 2 took a massive dip in quality. Season 3 was a laughable box ticking car crash.

As usual when a show starts to get some traction, too many people get involved in the production. Look how the producers, writers etc have increased season by season. They have no idea what the viewer wants either. It became a daft soap opera with a tangle of uninteresting stories & characters.

Should have been left well alone.

I felt the first season was spectacular, while 2 & 3 felt a bit uneven at times, but it had a very satisfying ending to me. As a TV Industry worker, I can confidently say studio politics are oppressive monsters, but I feel like this is the best way to bring a show back. What happened in London is its own story now, with a full arc. The worst thing they could have done was destroy all the arcs of Season 3 and reset the status quo. This really feels like it'll be a different show with the same characters, and I'm fine with that. Taking a concept in a new direction doesn't always need to nullify the endings that came before. And honestly I could use a bit more Ted Lasso positivity in my life again.
Agreed that the current arc of Ted lasso was resolved with s3.

But…

S4 is about setting up a woman’s soccer team right?

Seems a good way to start to segue into some additional new characters and (perhaps) a spin off.

Hopefully Ted agrees to come back - as long as one of his key job goals is to replace himself with a female coach (or ‘manager’ as we say in the uk!)

I’m not going to watch the 4th season - they hit there Zenith in the 3rd I believe - but it matters little if people are going to watch the new ones - if they enjoy why not?

The remarkable thing about Ted Lasso is that every episode ends on a positive and life affirming note I've never seen before. Great for stress reduction (and sleep). I think I've been through all three seasons 3 times now. I even bought the DVD set at a bargain price (apparently a mismatch between demand and production). As an aside, the DVDs have noticeably worse resolution than streaming.

Of course what I find positive and life affirming could easily be annoying to others.
