These updates are very welcomed. But... the truth is these are very minor and FCP is still way behind Resolve, Premier, and even CapCut.

*sigh*
Yeah, I was surprised Final Cut Pro didn't have built-in motion tracking until version 10.6 two years ago, a very welcome addition to have it built in without needing to load a clip into Motion to do such an effect. Very handy for my YouTube Poops! Adobe Premiere Pro still doesn't have this built in yet, to my knowledge.

In fact, next spring it will mark ten years since I began exclusively using FCP X for making my YTPs. It's pretty much the Mac version of Vegas Pro.

Doesn't seem that way to me.
It looks like you might be using a Title that is created for a particular purpose where the position is locked. Try using a basic title (under Bumper/Opener). Here's a clip to show how things "normally" function (along with a tip to reset the position in the Video Inspector).

This link has some further information, but I think the above will suffice.

Why would the position be locked even if it is for a specific purpose? That makes no sense. Sure, have a default template layout - but let me move it around as soon as I've placed it on my timeline! You can even see the position being updated, but nothing is moving!

Eh. Never trust anything in a marketing event. I am 99.99% sure all the Premiere stuff we saw and got benchmarks for in that keynote were paid product placements by Adobe. In the behind the scenes video for the event everyone is using Blackmagic Design products.

I was at the Adobe MAX Keynote where they demoed the new features of Premier2024… it bugged out and fell flat on its face 2 or 3 times in the demonstration. Extremely awkward and I was immediately reminded why so many people have sworn off Premiere.

The magnetic timeline is certainly Pro, but it is not the best solution for all situations. Neither is not having traditional tracks and I feel like keyframing was a lot more robust back in classic FCP
The funny thing is I could never go back to traditional tracks after using the magnetic timeline. Once you get used to it and learn all the shortcuts, as with any piece of software, working in the magnetic timeline is so fast, it’s sometimes hard to believe that people can still edit with traditional tracks. It was quite frustrating when I first started using it but I’m so glad I persevered as I would say it’s sped up my workflow times two maybe even by times three

Wish I had your perseverance, but for the occasional once a year project I'd still like to be able to edit the way my brain works. Especially since I spend my days in track based Logic all the time.

For me it is not really about preserving or how my brain works. I love the magnetic timeline for projects where it fits, which is most, but sometimes you have a project where traditional tracks make it easier to maintain/switch between versions of an edit/compilation. If you’ve laid in and made edits to a couple different options for a music track for instance, or different options for B-Roll. Old school tracks come in really handy when you need to quickly need to A/B options or make swaps on the fly for a client. Having a disabled track or two as a “holding” area was something I learned in Final Cut Classic back when editing was a full-time part of my job. Technically you can do similar with the magnetic timeline and compound clips, but it gets messy.

It took a week to learn it inside out. And I nearly stopped. But it was one of the best learning investments Ive ever made as it paid dividends in overcoming the learning curve in so many ways career wise.

Don’t you simply disable the audio track and then align the new one underneath it just like in other programmes?

I don't know why. I've been using FCPx for over a decade (FCP 7 before). I've never seen an issue like you're describing, but can't figure it out from what you've shared. Maybe with more of the FCPx window, there would be another clue?

Apple had a professional version of FCP and was well on their way to having an industry leading platform. Then they kneecapped their professional users with a revision that took away the features they needed.

Now they are upgrading again?

Why would any pro take a chance on Apple. Just ask those who convinced their bosses to go with an Apple server.
