I've been using the latest since yesterday. While it has crashed once, it's otherwise been fine. With my set up and workload crashes occur every 1-2 weeks. Not enough to bother me into action.

I also noticed that Final Cut Pro 10.4.9 had a few minor tweaks to its' user interface, largely with redesigning a few of the buttons, like the speed controller and the Transform/Crop/Distort utility. Getting ready for Final Cut Pro X 10.5, I guess?

And as I mentioned in another post, with iMovie I can't upload HD content directly to YouTube, just standard-def. But I can work around it by exporting the video from iMovie as an HD file and uploading it manually to YouTube, and in one case I even actually exported one of my vlogs from iMovie to Final Cut Pro X 10.4.9. did a little tweaking to the footage in it there and directly uploaded it to YouTube in HD via that program!

As a user of the free tier of DaVinci Resolve, I am just sitting here eating popcorn while FCPX and Adobe users argue.

DaVinci gives a free tier software that is equal to FCP and Adobe Priemer? I saw that on their site but...there must be a catch. how do they make their money?

They are primarily a hardware company. As an example, their Pocket Cinema 6K camera costs $1,995 and includes a full DaVinci Resolve Studio license. Also, their new ATEM Mini Pro ISO effects/recorder/switcher/streamer box, can generate a Resolve project with all the transitions and cuts one did in the live stream, that can then use the full res media recorded in camera as the starting point of a higher end version of the stream.

Their free version has some limitations, but most non-pro users will never hit them. For those who want the full version and do not plan to buy a camera, the full version is $300, and has included upgrades. It is also available on the Mac App Store.

The only real limitation of the free Resovle, at least when I bought it 3 years ago, is the inability of exporting 4K DCI video (ie cinema 4K), noise reduction, some special filters and only single GPU utilisation. Either than those, you can do pretty much everything.

intersting, people make a living selling video editing software and these guys are just giving it away for free.

They do sell it, they also bundle it with cameras and other things. It is still considered the premier color correction software in the industry. It will be interesting to see if they are able to build its use as an NLE and DAW (they bought Fairlight a few years ago).
