See also: what happened to the iWork suite back when the '09 version got "upgraded" to a lowest-common-denominator garbagefest. Keynote, for instance, used to have tons of really powerful control palattes you could spread out around your screen to control everything (kind of the way Adobe Creative Cloud apps work). Now it's got one ****y inspector that you'll find yourself constantly switching around to its different functions. Why is this? So the interface can be more or less identical on iPad, Mac and iCloud.com. I'd rather my Mac apps remain powerful, not get crapped down to the level of what iOS devices are capable of dealing with.

To be fair, there is now the Files app for what that's worth. When working in apps that plug into it correctly, it's quite decent. It's no Finder, of course, but it at least lets you open/save to proper folders that sync over to your Mac.

Spot on. I had the iWork suite in mind, when I posted before.

Do real professionals even use FCP X anymore or is it just for the odd youtuber "celebrity"?
I have to use both Premiere Pro and FCPX for professional work. If it was up to me I'd just use FCPX. It's come a long way since it's botched release in 2011. In my opinion it's the best NLE to use if you have a mac. It's not perfect but nothing comes close to how well it performs.

Apple should give iMovie (much) more attention and features. That would really be enough for me. And an easy way to send projects to Final Cut Pro X on the Mac (Airdrop would be nice).

You can already AirDrop an iMovie project from iOS to the Mac. Then just FCPX, File, Import, iMovie for iOS Project.

If these updates keep coming like this I might just switch back. I've used about every NLE since 2001 (including Kron) and so far the top of the pile is still Avid (if you have the backbone and $$$ to support it) but Adobe is LAGGING behind in speed and stability. FCPX still isn't stable when working with large 4k projects with After Effects compositions but ...

Neither is Adobe! And FCPX is just STOOPID fast on any modern Mac.

It might be worth it to download the app again and cut a project or two on it.

Let's see... They kill Final Cut because they don't want to pay any highly paid support people (necessary for any software to be called "professional"). They introduce a very cheap substitute, on their App Store to download. No support of any kind, but who cares, it's cheap! Nobody uses it for any work. So slowly they decide to bring back "professional" features, still no support. Does anybody understand what Apple really is after these days? It's a complete mess :(

Still waiting for a version for the iPad Pro series.

Do you mind sharing how you would bring the footage to your iPad? iTunes? iCloud? Anything?

Snap. Having just bought the 11" and tried out the toy movie editors, I was literally about to say the same thing. TC says it's a PC replacement so should put his mouth where his $1T of money is.

Agree...LumaFusion is a good third party editing app...

Does this require you to export XML or an EDL from a project? Or can it convert a FCP7 project without any other process?
Export an XML from the old project, drag it into sendtox and it does all the conversions.

IF it happens I'd love to see the option to just leave the RAW on an external SSD connected via USB-C.

I'd hate to have to buy the 1TB version just get a 300-400GB project into a mobile version of FCPX.

Although, I'd love to see a version of Prelude on the iPad. A place where I can tag, keyword, sort, and rough out a project or series of projects on an iPad Pro. Maybe even prepare for a batch export until I get back to an iMac Pro.

To be fair, Keynote has gradually gotten back some of the stuff it lost (the key one for me being the ability to paste in clean vector graphics straight from Illustrator via the clipboard) but the inspector situation remains a real drag. I can't speak to Numbers as much, but Pages is also still crippled by the same palatte-hostile "one window, many clicks" design.

The quarter-baked apps that have made their way over from iOS in Mojave (Stocks, News) are much the same: Mac users getting sloppy seconds from iOS.

Now we just need FCP for Windows so we can run it on decent specs and proper cooling lol

I honestly hope not. Knowing Apple and their Modus operandi, we would get a Mickey Mouse Version of FCPX on which the whole development team and the gardener was working on. With the unfortunate result that the MacOs Version wouldn’t see upgrades for centuries. And it took already quite a while to bring FCPX on speed.

I remember people hated FCPX cuz it was too simple like iMovie, yet my twitter feed exploded over how amazing Adobe Rush is...which is basically Adobe's iMovie. I think for a lot of projects (especially on tablets) people are fine with a simple Mickey Mouse version of something, just can't be Apple that does it lol

I feel ya, but have you tried Capture One? It's really good.

On the whole, I'm glad Apple cares at least about Logic and Final Cut. Still, Aperture had such a great interface.

I’m not a fan of Capture One. The UI is incredibly slow (slow as in seemingly unoptomised) and the algorithms behind things like highlight recovery were miles behind Lightroom.

And that was the main issue with Aperture. Although I loved how simple it was to organise with (unlike Lightroom, that’s a total mess) Aperture’s algorithms were terrible. Even Apple Photos isn’t a great deal improved.

As much as I dislike Adobe, they definitely have the best tech.

That all said, I’m excited to see some proper colour tools in Motion!

Tossing my hat into the "we miss aperture" lot. One of the reasons I bought my first iMac was because of Aperture. I was so happy the day I opened my brand new Intel iMac (The white model, I mean) and was finally able to install Aperture, which I had actually bough in anticipation of the new machines initial purchase.

I am finally making the transition over to it after years on Adobe, which I still love. But, I am finding X to be much FASTER at everything. Exporting especially. Using it, I could easily get another 3-4 years out of my current 2014 iMac

Missing aperture here as well. My living is video, photography now usually only a hobby, so I'm lucky in that regard .
I still have huge library on a 3.1 Mac Pro I have to decide what software to move to. Tried Capture one with my Sony, but not sure
