Snap. Having just bought the 11" and tried out the toy movie editors.

You are right, nothing comes too close to Final Cut Pro X on iOS apps.
However, I was impressed by Luma Fusion. Pretty darn good actually, miles away better than iMovie and some other video editing apps.

Hi guys my color finale pro and mojo 2 have stopped working and I have a film to release. Can anyone suggest a workaround?

I’m not a fan of Capture One. The UI is incredibly slow (slow as in seemingly unoptomised) and the algorithms behind things like highlight recovery were miles behind Lightroom.

And that was the main issue with Aperture. Although I loved how simple it was to organise with (unlike Lightroom, that’s a total mess) Aperture’s algorithms were terrible. Even Apple Photos isn’t a great deal improved.

As much as I dislike Adobe, they definitely have the best tech.

That all said, I’m excited to see some proper colour tools in Motion!

The interface admittedly takes some getting used to, but it isn't slow (at least for me) and highly customizable. They added more hardware accelerated features some versions ago. But yes, it's not an Apple interface. Unfortunately I very much dislike the Lightroom UI.

For me, the main feature of Capture One is the RAW conversion quality. They have individually optimized import profiles for almost any camera sensor and IMHO nothing comes close. I haven't extensively used Lightroom for quite a while, so they may well be ahead in some algorithms, but not in the RAW conversion. I'm just getting the edit done so quickly.

The downside of a solution like Capture One is they are not really a DAM for organizing pics. I loved the integrated views of Aperture for editing as well as structuring photos. Also for its time the brushes were really the best.

Well maybe they should stop saying something and then taking 6 years to make it happen, oh never mind that's the decent Mac Pro as well.
What took 6 years to happen? It's not the first update to FCPX.
Have the features brought by the 10.4.4 update been present in competing apps for 6 years?
Have people been asking Apple to implement those precise features for 6 years?
Have Apple promised they would bring those features back in 2012?

Do real professionals even use FCP X anymore or is it just for the odd youtuber "celebrity"?

Assuming by professionals you mean people paid to create videos: Yes. They might not be Hollywood movies (although Whiskey Tango FoxTrot and Focus were both cut on it!) but a lot of single shops (myself included) use it and its blasting fast for it. The latest integration with Frame IO is amazing and will change the way I work.

Its also got a quite a bit of traction within BBC News with one of the regular Newsnight producers regularly posting his FCP X timelines on Twitter.

When can we get FCP to Motion and back workflow back in? Come on Apple...
It would be a smart movie on Apple's part, for I learned After Effects in a couple of Motion Graphics courses I took in college and it was real easy switching back and forth from Premiere. The way Apple has Motion Graphics is a little clunky and awkward. I say let the user decide what should be down with with the clip AFTER it's is imported to FCPX. I don't understand the audio portion of Apple Motion, for it seems a little backwards to me.
Motion Graphics isn't as good as After Effects, but it's pretty solid.

See also: what happened to the iWork suite back when the '09 version got "upgraded" to a lowest-common-denominator garbagefest. Keynote, for instance, used to have tons of really powerful control palattes you could spread out around your screen to control everything (kind of the way Adobe Creative Cloud apps work). Now it's got one ****y inspector that you'll find yourself constantly switching around to its different functions. Why is this? So the interface can be more or less identical on iPad, Mac and iCloud.com. I'd rather my Mac apps remain powerful, not get crapped down to the level of what iOS devices are capable of dealing with.

To be fair, there is now the Files app for what that's worth. When working in apps that plug into it correctly, it's quite decent. It's no Finder, of course, but it at least lets you open/save to proper folders that sync over to your Mac.

I’ll say one thing for Keynote, my band took a leap of faith on using it for our entire video projection/backing track audio solution on an old iPhone 6S Plus....and a year’s worth of shows later, it hasn’t failed us yet. I can’t believe how well a 7GB keynote file can work smoothly on an iPhone plugged into an hdmi adapter, but it does. Nice work Apple.

Yeah, it's completely badass software and PowerPoint can't touch it -- believe me, I've tried at my old job to get PPT to turn out good results and it's a losing battle. All my complaining is about Keynote's UI and ease of use at this point, not the final product, which is awesome.

Keynote is a smart way to package up media for live entertainment like that. I can't tell you how many times I've been to some performance and seen a projector get fired up only to watch someone's entire desktop come into view for everyone to see, then watch them manually click on the video or whatever they're showing. It looks so cheesy, even assuming you don't catch a glimpse of whatever crap they have in their dock or spread out across the desktop. If you just embed all that into Keynote slides, it's so much more smooth and professional for the audience.

I have to use both Premiere Pro and FCPX for professional work. If it was up to me I'd just use FCPX. It's come a long way since it's botched release in 2011. In my opinion it's the best NLE to use if you have a mac. It's not perfect but nothing comes close to how well it performs.
Yeah performance wise FCPX is the clear winner. I'm switching over to Resolve, but used FCPX the other day to build a slideshow since it's still makes certain things extremely easy.

I would never update in between a project. Denver Riddle said not to update yet but a new version coming out in a week.

Interested in who uses Compressor and why. I know what it does but is it worth it?
I work for a small production house which is also a small distribution agency. I use compressor extensively when making different versions of films for different clients (broadcast, DVD sales, online VOD). I have a RAID5 TB2 drive with all the master files connected to my old Macbook Pro and compressor installed on all the macs in the office, while they are connected to each other via gigabit ethernet. Usually orders come in batches and I just create a new batch on compressor with multiple films and outputs and using the qmaster functionality I utilise all the hardware from all the macs in the network (14 cores ) for super fast conversions that's really easy to set up.

I also use compressor when I need to export a film from FCPX but I need to use it at the same time for something else, by using the "send to compressor" option inside FCPX.

Generally its a very sweet and easy product, although when something goes wrong, good luck fixing it. But that's very rare now.
