Dude what ring..haha. I got to the village and bought potions and stuff, cool. Then when I get out 3 big guys do 120+hp of damage to me on each hit...I only have 30hp on each person, what gives!! Arghhhhhhhh

Go north to that little village rest up then go west across the bridge and go north then east around the lake. there's a big castle there.

Ok, can anyone clue me in on how to equip weapons? Somehow, the first weapons I purchased are equiped, but now that I've leveled up more, and purchased more, I can't seem to change. All my guys are at L10, but still using knieves despite the Broadsword I bought for my warrior.

Agree! Though I'll always have the softest spot for FF4. :) I have it for the DS, but I can't wait for an iPhone version...hope it gets ported soon!

I got confused a few days ago when I saw the screenshots of FF2 and noticed it wasn't the game I was thinking about. A little Wikipedia told me that the version I played was FF2 in the US but technically FF4. I got my hopes up when it was listed as on the Virtual Console by Wikipedia, but only in Japan. DAMN YOU, JAPAN!

I'm debating whether I should get FF1 and see what it's like. Any recommendation? I'm not a huge RPG nerd, but I did like FF2/4 a long time ago.

It's one of the games that set RPG cliches that have been copied and copied and copied.

So if you play it, you will feel like you are playing a bad copy of bad RPG's.

That said, it's a classic.

I think these are more for people who played and loved the original games, not to attract new gamers, imho. It's for us old farts who hate today's games...for being prettied up derivatives of what we played as kids.

Well I played FF2/4 when it came out as I mentioned. I don't even remember why. I think I may have borrowed it from a friend. But I liked the neat story and I vaguely recall it being very fun. I LOVE Zelda: Twilight Princess, and it seems to be very similar except for the turn-by-turn aspect.

I'm also not one to poo-poo old games. I have bought a lot of old games on the Wii Virtual Console. I got sick of computer games for a LONG time because everything seemed to be the same. There were 1,500 first-person shooters and 20,000 RPGs. The fact that most of the games I buy are sports games and updated versions of series (Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii), I like originality much much more.

I have no idea where I'm going with this. It's hard to know whether I'd like the game without playing it. I was burned BADLY with NCAA Football 09 for Wii, so I have been ultra-hesitant at buying most anything since then. It's only $9, but I don't want to spend $9 on something I will totally hate in five minutes.

Anybody have an updated opinion of these? I'm almost finished with Mega Man 2 and will be looking for another classic shortly.

I played FF7 a couple of times years ago so I know I like the turn based RPG system. Just wondering if it's worth the $9.

It's very much worth the $9 I actually bought both ... If you had to pick one, get FF 2

This was an awesome trip down memory lane. In a hours of fun per dollar analysis, it's definitely worth it!

Did you have any issues with the language changing on you?

I searched that out ... the only thing I could find is that Final Fantasy is one of those games that uses whatever language setting is on your phone ... so while I couldn't find any actual evidence of 'language changing' as an issue - not even perusing the first 5-6 pages of 'most critical' iTunes 'reviews' - some interaction with an app that does change languages might cause issues.

I downloaded FF1 a few weeks ago and have been playing it off and on since then (I'm about 7 hours in). Today I started it up and I only have New Game on the main menu; Load and Resume are missing. Has that happened to anyone else? I've rebooted my iPod to no effect.

Edit: My saved games managed to delete themselves
I restored from this morning's backup and didn't lose much progress.

Dies anyone have either of them for the iPad? How do they look? Any complaints with the pixel doubling?

I have the first game. It looks great on the iPad. When it's doubled it looks like it does on the iPhone just bigger no complaints here.

While FF7 is a classic in its own right, FF6 (FF3 for original US SNES release) was the last of the last of the true classic FF games in my mind. Out of all of the FF games, that's the one I always find myself going back to play, along with FF4 and Chrono Trigger. Perhaps it's nostalgia.
