FF 8 is one of the most LETDOWN video game, for me personally, in history. FF 7 was so damn awesome. When FF 8 came down, I woke up early that day and went to pick my preorder in the store..went home and played the next 15 straight hours..the first disc was very good..however beginning 2nd disc on it’s starting to sucked so bad..overall the story was dumb, mechanic of the game also dumb..graphics did look improved over FF7 I give them that..FF9 returned with a smash hit but graphics returns to cartoonish..now I’ve retired from video gaming..too old. imho, once you reach 30 years old, you shouldn’t play any more video gaming.

Im 35, stopped actively playing videogames around college at 21 (traditional hardcore gaming, as I always have one or two casual games on my phone, etc). Recently Ive been trying to get back at it -and failing-, maybe I dont have the time, attention span or dedication to fully engage any more, usually play two hours at most and leave the game for months untouched. I recently bought the Metro trilogy, then grabbed both Death Stranding and The Witcher 3, I havent even opened them once. Im sure with enough dedication I might be able to enjoy them, its just that, between work and life, usually my time off can be served by short videos on YouTube.

I don't even watch Netflix/Prime/Apple TV+ even though I pay for them...

Lol, what weird a weird arbitrary rule. The average age of a gamer is 35. Don't stop doing something you enjoy just because of your age.
++ I'm 49 years old and hold my own against kids 1/3 my age in online multiplayer. I've played in competitive, for-money matches and won. Drawing arbitrary lines in the sand about who should be a "gamer" is beyond absurd. And yes, I have a job (own a business), and a family. I *make* time for gaming.

By the same token, I'm sure Apple expects someone like me to be placated by the third-rate indie studio cast-offs they want people to pay $4.99 a month for. No thanks. Gamers come in all ages, all abilities, all ambitions.

So many memories here lol. Renzokuken -> Lionheart. Rinoa... Zell... Seifer being a total scrub after being so cool for like 3 discs lol. Going through the entire game at the lowest level possible until making it to the Island Closest to Hell/Heaven. Omega Weapon. Summons that actually meant something for awhile. Never actually casting magic :D Gunblades 😍 Ultimecia, Laguna's battle music, all stats going to 255, hitting Level 100 vs. 99, good times.
Answer the question! Have you heard of Final Fantasy VIII or not?!🙃

The part of me that’s turned into my dad wants to know if you think Netflix/Prime/Apple TV+ money grows on trees?

RE the main point:

I’m with you on a few hours total of a game and then leave unplayed for months. Even the casual free to play swipe and tap games fail to capture my attention for very long. I recently started FF VII again but by recently I mean 6 months ago and I stopped playing after getting my first Chocobo. I typically just watch or listen to YouTube while doing yard work or other chores. I think life just gets in the way. It’s not that I don’t love video games.

Available on Android as well.
Finally FF8 is available on mobile. It’s funny since both FF7 and FF9 have been available for a while.

Love FF8. It has my favorite OST amongst all FFs. I bought the original PC version way back when, and bought the original OST. It was huge in Asia since Faye Wong sang the theme song “Eyes on Me”. It’s groundbreaking game in terms of graphics for the PS1 as most J-RPGs back then use super deformed. The game mechanics was challenging as it broke the traditional level grinding. It’s also a love story. The card game was ultra annoying though, and it’s required to get some weapons.

I really should cancel Netflix, I did watch a series this last winter, but that was it, Prime Video comes included with the fast delivery thing, alas Apple TV+ comes included with Apple One (I do actively use Apple Music & iCloud Storage).

I think one might really want to play through a certain game, but then it becomes one more thing on the list "you have to do", as in put int the work, set time apart, etc.

I wish they released these with Apple TV support. As far as I know, only Chrono Trigger has ATV support. I wonder why they didn't do it for their Final Fantasy releases?

Question for the devs here: Is it a hassle to make your iOS game support Apple TV?

Loved that game but I still can’t get used to gaming on an iPad or iPhone.
+1 I still consider FF VI (JP, III US) SNES/SFC the pinnacle of truly immersive, honest RPGs. Spending the whole summer holidays on that single game — Call me in.

This was, by far, my least favourite entry of the series and the last title in the series I bought. It's also the only one I had that I couldn't be bothered to finish.

FFVI was the best.

I was told repeatedly that IX is an improvement, but after VIII I couldn't be bothered.

Not a dev, but I expect it similar to the situation with the PS Vita and PS TV:

1) Market penetration and sales history numbers with the device is too small to bother the expense of play testing and coding platform specific modifications.
2) Could hurt sales and review ratings of more profitable, more important platforms (proper consoles).
3) If ported by a 3rd party they may only have the rights to produce a "portable" version and intentionally disable support.

Why don’t you just connect a controller or keyboard&mouse to your iPad? It would be a whole lot easier.
Not all games, like this one, support it (yet). Plus, balancing a tablet/phone and controller just isn't the same in my opinion. If I'm going to have a controller and a device, I'd rather sit in front of my 4k display and play (and only have to manage the controller).

Actually, it should be the opposite. Us people 30+ have disposable income and we’re allegedly able to manage our own time. As long as video gaming doesn’t become an addiction that impacts family life, who cares about how one spends time.
Contrary, young kids have both the physical and mental energy to gain experience in the real world. They need human and physical contact, they need “real life experience” as the older man in me would say. They also have more issues at managing their time, which makes gaming a potential trouble for their formation.
iF anything, the older you get the better off you’re playing video games especially if you’re body starts to fail more and more.

Who says you shouldn't play video games in your thirties?

Being successful is about being free to do whatever the F you want.

I've built two businesses and have no boss or alarm clock, so I'll continue gaming into my fourties, thanks!

I pity you. You couldn’t be more wrong.
