Now that it CAN be done I hope that the iPhone 7/plus has 256GB as an option. With the amount of video and pictures that I take on my phone even 128 gets a little cramped every now and then.
I always wonder why people need this much memory on a mobile device..,you can use a 3 or 4 tb hard drive to store everything or back up everything on the cloud and put the most important media on your mobile device...128 gb is plenty enough with all of the cloud solutions and external hard drives out there today...

Too late anyway to return. I'm not selling for a loss just because of band 12 LTE. Nor the camera features are worth my attention either. I did buy the new smart camera adapter that has the USB 3.0. I will plug in a hub with all sorts of devices to test it. I'm happy with the 12.9" the display is just great to use everyday and I am not ok with the smaller screens.

I just cannot believe Apple pulled another iPad 3 F-U again. 4 months from time of sale and wow, new camera system, new LTE antenna, new display for the smaller sibling. There is nothing PRO at all. Phil Schiller is a lying sack of dung

The 12.9 was released in November. Hindsight the release of the 12.9 in November and the 9.7 not being upgraded screams "the pro 9.7 and 12.9 will not be ready for a 2015 release". I am thinking the release of the current 12.9 was part of a contingency plan if certain parts weren't ready. Pro introduced today.

I have plenty of data stored in Google Drive, such as videos, audios and even ebooks. Now I am playing the first two contents directly from the site, and ebooks are only downloaded when I am actually using them.

However, the 64 GB model was filled pretty quickly with just a few videos, audios and ebooks that sometimes have hundreds of MB, and I didn't even use the camera to record anything. The image (and perhaps sound quality, if the ac3/dts codecs aren't banned in the player, for licensing issues) are improved compared to what you get from playing directly from Google, even if it's reencoded from the lossless video. It's not always practical to always depend of an Internet connection to do anything. So you need to store these contents in the iPad itself sometimes.

And I guess when we start dealing a lot more with 4K contents (even the ripped, lossy versions) the available storage will be wasted very quickly. Not to mention the inability to record longer videos. That's where the 128 or 256 GB models are needed.

Of course we would all love that our internet connections (and their availability wherever we go) were pretty fast and perfect, and to take advantage of cloud storage, however nowadays you have to pay if you have more than modest needs.

I managed to create multiple GD accounts, all free, but each only has 15 GB. A lossless movie always needs to be divided into two (a single cellphone number can create up to 5 accounts, and only sometimes we can create without verifying the SMS code).

It's fine if they need a little longer to launch it, but if they knew they were going to launch it in 4 months, it would be nice if they mentioned as such during the November keynote.

They're not obliged to, but it doesn't speak well for customer experience. Like @Kal-037 mentioned, now I have to make a choice on what to do.

I really like the iPad Pro, but I rapidly realized I needed more space when attempting to edit large RAW photos and 4K videos.

Agree. They should add the 256GB option in the Sept 2015 keynote showing Early Next Year. But then ppl will hold back buying the IPP. I guess it makes sense for them to do this but it's unpleasant for those who would have waited.

I genuinely don't get the need for that amount of space on an iPad. I'd probably front. Ore cash for, cloud storage. I'm sure some people do but even with my photography I'm not using that much space.

I'm sure someone somewhere wants it. I'd spend some money on a synology at that point or cloud storage.

For those who feel they need a bunch of space have a look at the synology iOS integration, you may find a two bay you can pop existing disks in that solves a lot of issues and saves a ton over the course of s few iOS device purchases which could be smaller.

Again I'm not saying nobody does, just for me, I wish they did a 64 gig version.

My iPad Air 2 had 64 GB and I don't think I filled more than a quarter of the space, if that. Most of the stuff I work with is in the cloud, so for me it's not necessary. I'm glad they offered the larger amount for those who need it, though.

Finally. Been waiting for a 256GB model since the Air. Interestingly enough, MSRP of the iPP 9.7" LTE 256GB ($599 base + $300 storage upgrade + $130 LTE) is the same as the iPad 4 LTE 128GB ($499 base + $400 storage upgrade + $130 LTE).

Videos take up a lot of space. Cloud storage only works when you have a fast, reliable and inexpensive internet connection. When you're offline, have a spotty connection or are on metered internet (e.g. during long car rides), local storage wins. Also, some of us already have multi-terabyte NAS/file servers at home and 256GB is just a small slice of the library. Having 256GB on the iPad means I don't have to sync with Plex as often. $300 for 224GB extra storage is a lot cheaper than $10-15/GB in overage charges.

I've actually toyed with the idea of building a portable Plex Media Server (maybe Raspberry Pi or Intel NUC-based) but there's always other stuff I end up doing in my free time (mostly reading). My laptop (with 2TB HDD) is already set-up as Plex server but I want something more compact.

Can't imagine ever needing that much storage but great that they are doing it

Means it's coming for iPhone 7 too

Fudge, what a joke Apple. So how does this work, I have to sell my iPP on Craigslist and lose 200-300 bucks to get the 256GB model? This is ridiculous they waited til now to give the iPP 256.
Also despite the fact a camera on a large iPP is not as realistic than a phone it's stupid the iPP mini has a better camera and better tech than Apple's 4 month old "greatest iPad Ever." I realize tech advances like crazy, but Apple really screwed people IMO. I would have loved to have been able to buy that 256 back when the iPP was released. I needed that space So now I get to play the fun game of trying to sell this iPad and get some kind of return so I can purchase a device that should have been released 4 months ago.
*first world problems to the max, but frickin ridiculous nonetheless.

Well how it should work would be you actually think about what you're buying before you plop down hundreds of dollars and not whine when a company updates their products. If the capacity wasn't enough for you on the iPad Pro released a few months ago, why did you buy it?

traditional cycle of Apple:
  • people complain Apple products don't have something
  • Apple updates products to have features people asked for
  • People complain that those features weren't already there to begin with, even though they still felt the product was worth buying
  • Complain complain complain
  • Stock for Kleenex inc goes up as more tears are shed and tissues are being used 100x fold
  • ?
  • Profit
TL; DR Apple has conspired with Kleenex to make money by angering everyone

Don't act all rude, I got the 128GB as it was the only option, plus how was anyone supposed to know they'd up the storage in 4 months. So again, at the time it was the best choice. If I had been given the other options, I would have gone for the 256. It's really simple to understand why anyone would be a bit angry, (*granted I was a little too angry before,) but I'm okay now, it is just annoying now, but not angering.

Yeah 256gb with usb 2...no thanks.

But with LTE Advanced.. And wifi transfers with AC should be fast enough.. I'm so torn..

The 256 option made sense. All their devices have had three storage options since what, the 3gs maybe? So when the Pro came out with only two, if felt a little weird. Now we know why.

Past track record proves that wifi transfers are never reliable. There needs to be total revamp or some new technology which overcomes wifi inefficiencies.

Sorry if I was rude. Was trying to be truthful in my response but after seeing countless posts of people saying Apple personally "betrayed them", it got me a bit pissed off how entitled customers are these days.

But I'll address this part

You don't know. You never know. We all heard rumors last year that there would be a march event, so naturally, a lot of people assumed there would be significant upgrades. But correct me if I'm off base here, but a lot of people...even knowing that, decided to buy the iPad Pro anyway. You could have played the waiting game to see if storage was going to go up, if prices would drop, etc. But you didn't. Is Apple at fault here because they didn't tell you to not buy their iPad because later on they would update the storage? What should they have done if they couldn't get the storage needed last year? Plus they don't tell you their schedule for what might come later for obvious reasons.

Personally, I think the whole keynote was pointless crap they could've announced later on in the year at their respective events. I mean really...a couple new watch bands? Why even mention that? Just update the store. Talking about iOS 9.3? Why? Could've just talked about that in a press release and just released the update.

Did Apple tell you when to buy it?

Not Apple's fault.

Actually, they did. That's what all the marketing and the keynote is for. They are telling when and why you should buy it. Kinda miffed the 256gb came now as well. I would have went for that over LTE 128GB right away.

9.7 inch iPad is the Flagship model... that answers all your grievances.

The 12.9 inch Pro is a niche market hence it has niche parts. Faster Lightning port, faster clock speed more RAM and being a friggin' GIANT iPad.

9.7 has more "fun" stuff like higher res cameras, gimmicky screen upgrade and it comes in Pink, but lacks in things like RAM and USB 3.0 Lightning port (which let's face it... not everyone will make use of). Most people just want to draw on it and have 4 speakers.

As far as the 256gb... wasn't it just recently announced that 256gb NAND chips became more readily available or something? The rate of Solid State memory advancement is on par with the 4 month advancement.

Mainly because... why would I expect them to up the storage after just 4 months of the product being released? Honestly it isn't that hard to understand why this is an odd move by Apple.
I doubt people were thinking:... "hmmm, i'll hold off just in case they RANDOMLY add more storage, even though there have been NO rumors, NO real indication, NOR has there been any talk about such a thing being released.... But hey they might randomly add a 256GB option out of the blue!" *No one was thinking like that.
I personally, went in buying the Pro knowing they would upgrade the iPad Air 2 and a bunch of other products, but had no idea at all that they would say: "surprise we have 256GB option now!" As for why I bought it 4 months ago... I needed the tablet for art projects at the time and I thought (and all evidence seemed to indicate) that 128GB would be the highest option (for a while at-least.)

Last I heard about that storage stuff was the "intel invented faster than flash storage" story from December I believe, but it was not going to be out for a while and was only for Macs and PCs... not Tablets.

So Kal, you seem a bit upset....

Not totally surprising since they did the same thing with the iPad 4; the 128GB model came out about three months after the 64GB.

So Kal, you seem a bit upset....
I didn't think my post came across as angry or upset... (wasn't my intention as I stopped being frustrated about the whole situation yesterday.) *oops about the tone of my last post...
So no I am not upset, or mad... But I am confused as to why you don't understand what I've explained a few times now (and as clear as I could.) but I'll give it "the old college try" and attempt to explain it again, Lol... The story starts back in November of 2015... I wanted the highest storage configuration for the iPP, (which was 128GB... As that was all that was available.) The 256Gb was not even a rumored option. So obviously I was fine with 128... But then after buying the iPad Pro the return date expired after 2 weeks, making it impossible to exchange and pay extra $150 for the 256GB option that Apple revealed 4 months later. Which is what I would like to be able to do, but I cannot... Hence why I was frustrated.
The second part is that selling the Pro isn't a viable or good option, as even 128GB LTE models barely sell for 800 dollars on secondary markets compared the their purchased price being $949 + all accessories. Now honestly I am super happy with my pro and will keep it... It's the fact apple waited just long enough to prevent anyone who bought it back in November to exchange it. Now I am not entitled to anything at all, (no matter who I am or how much money I give a company,) So I'm not thinking or saying "Apple I deserve and demand you allow me to exchange for the 256 or I'm boycotting you." I was frustrated, but more confused than anything, as this seemed so out of character for Apple, (as usually they have been really reliable when releasing products with all options from the start.) Not waiting just 4 months to release a new configuration. Yes Apple is a business, but I was used to how they did their business just 4 months ago, now I'm not sure what is going on in Silicon Valley.

Now, I'm not 100% sure if you're being serious, trolling, or just trying to somehow make me angry for some odd reason. I'll let you know, you won't make me angry, (annoyed? Yes it's possible, or you may even make me roll my eyes, but that's about it.) I don't actually get angry about much of anything, (I do post things like: "I'm pissed" or "this is ridiculous.") and I may even say: "screw you Apple" ... Which I did indeed say.
but psst... here's the truth, I am not actually aiming that at anyone working at or for Apple but at the choice and situation... I'm actually sending my frustrated exclamations at nothing. If someone from Apple sees it, they won't lose sleep from some random faceless and nameless person saying he's pissed at what a company they work for did (happens to me all the time working in retail.)
Being frustrated or annoyed are like the most common day to day emotions, so it's hard to express my concerns or frustrations by using the word: "frustrated," so instead I use/used harsher words like "pissed" or "ridiculous" as they are the type that are able to convey my feelings better than "that's annoying Apple."

Let's go ahead and move on friend, even if you still are unsure of how or why I feel/felt frustrated with Apple just know it's okay, no one will judge you. :) ;) now I say good day... http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view6/2469536/fez-i-say-good-day-o.gif

Why would I be trolling? Because I have a different opinion? Why is that even a question to be asking right now? I didn't leave a gigantic 10 million paragraph response last time because I've already stated how I feel on the topic. Anything more is just repeating myself, which apparently you're ok with doing. I think it's a valid thing to be...I don't know how to word it. A valid thing to think "awwww mannnn" for like 10 seconds. 10...freaking seconds. But after that, it's storage space. If you need it that bad, you can do something about it.

Ok. Enough. I can't really relate. I've never watched a keynote and been upset.

The trolling was a bit far, my apologies, but dude why do you even care if I was frustrated? (There are many more people even angrier than I was, why not question their reasons? lol) You almost come across like some Internet hall monitor; acting like i'm out of line or silly because I said I was frustrated at Apple.
The troll comment had nothing to do with your opinion, but was said because even after explaining my reasons multiple times, you asked the same question, (which I answered.) But then by doing that I'm almost viewed as a child or "entitled" jerk.... But what's funny is you think I trampled your opinion. o_O
This actually makes me laugh, cause it's such a dumb thing, yet I foolishly played into it. So well played sir, well played. lol
I guess I'll just keep my feelings or opinions to myself, that way there won't be arguments or misunderstandings.

Have a good one.

Is that really how you took it? Oh Jesus man...the over reactions are getting a little out of hand here. I think you should get out for a while and go watch the new batman vs superman movie. Time to relax. This conversation has obviously take a toll on you lol

You are right, I did over-react, I honestly was trying to answer your questions. Then I realized earlier today (my problem) was that I was thinking I HAD to justify myself, and was getting upset because I felt like I had to (And that's on me 100%.) I actually was about to PM you to apologize for getting upset and saying some rude/aggressive things. My sincerest apologies if anything I said was offensive or rude to you. (*and I'm not being sarcastic.)
Anyway, have a good night, :)
