I find the actual logic board removal to be easy but I never want to mess with the U3 as I believe it is held on with standoffs rather than screws.

Well, three hours of work(including a trip to Home Depot to get some long hex drivers) and I find myself with a computer that won't chime...

The computer powers up, the fans all spin up, and I see a red LED inside the front. I just never get any video output and the mouse never lights up.

I'm guessing I may not have one of the CPU cards seated correctly. It's sort of a pain with the LCS, since you can't press directly on the cards. I'll attack it at a later date.

You are a patient man, i would be fretting until i had fixed the problem.. and cursing if i had to pay out to fix the problem. ;)

When you removed the CPU cards from the heat sink did you ever flex the card? I put a little too much pressure on one of mine and damaged the card. Fortunately, I was able to get a pair of CPUs and heatsinks from my good friend Gavin.

No, I pulled them straight off.

The Quads actually have some help in this regard, as there's a big copper heatsink(not tied in with the LCS) on the underside of the card.

Unfortunately, this little thing called work means that I can't stay up until 3:00 or 4:00 working on stuff like this as I'd like to...

At the same time, though, I've gone to bed with a problem with this in my head, and ended up getting back up and working on it.

That's not as much fun as going to bed with a problem and waking up "with a solution in hand"!:)

I've lost count of the days of i have skipped work because of a 'new arrival' or a bit of over eagerness.

I wish I had that luxury...

In fact I don't even normally go in on Fridays, but am covering the stockroom for someone else who's out of town. It's nice to get a few extra bucks in my pocket. even if it does mean having to wait on fixing the Quad :) . I don't have much choice on the other days, though, as I teach at 12:00 and can't miss it.

I'll also be stuck start in July, as I'll be teaching 8:40 to 10:40 every morning. I can't exactly just not show up for that.

Sadly i have too much time on my hands since my back gave way at work, but i see your point. :)
