im sorry but I don't see the point with the bumpers. you're protecting...what? the edges? which are the least prone to cracking, I don't know they look cool but I'd rather protect the edges AND the back for $30

You almost never drop it on the back or front directly. It protects both glass pieces from scratches when it's on a flat, hard surface. It protects it from 90% of drops. The edges of the glass are the MOST prone to cracking.

Can I return an opened bumper?

Yes. Apple permits the return or exchange of the bumper even if it is open within 14 days. I was just in the Apple Store in Chicago and they were out of the pink bumpers. I asked the guy if I could buy a black one now and exchange it later. He said as long as it's not damaged, you can return (for a restocking fee if opened) or exchange it open (no restock for exchange).

Won't Apple replace these? I had an iPhone wall adaptor and earbuds replaced, no questions asked. And the earbuds looked like I ripped them (even though I didn't)...

Well...I tried the bumper for the last 5 days and strangely enough, I did some "real world" testing of the phone today WITH THE BUMPER ON and I am still losing signal (bars) in the exact same fashion as I was without the bumper on! The "bodyguard" or whatever case I got from AT&T seemed to fix the issue so it's strange that this apple case doesn't. Anyone else experiencing signal decreases/loss even WITH the bumper on?

my white bumper is a bit loose
but my green one fits perfectly

its just luck of the draw, really

I was hoping I'd like the bumper, but after having it on my phone for a few days, I am pretty disappointed. Perhaps it is my particular bumper, but when I shake the phone, it rattles... I'm assuming from the buttons on it, but it really annoys me, especially when the phone is on vibrate on my desk at work.

Maybe I'm just very OCD about this, but I don't believe the bumper should be causing any rattle or noise... I'm looking for alternatives now.

theres a guy that posted in the tips and help section where he used a heat gun on the bumper and it gave the bumper a tight fit. you can do the same but be careful not to be dumb and cook your phone.

FYI, other manufacturers are starting to come up with "bumpers" of their own. I started a Thread on the Accessories forum about them.

I'm waiting for the Tech21 iBand to be released at the end of July.

I'm a bit disappointed in my black bumper as well because it seems to lift up my screen protectors. First, I had Wrapsol Ultra front and back protection on my phone (that has since been removed) and it was lifting up the screen protector along the edges. Now I have Bodyguardz front and back installed and it's doing the same thing to the front screen protector. I never had this problem with my old Seidio Innocases lifting up my PS Anti-Glares. Problem is I don't know if it's the bumper or the fact that these screen protectors are different from the PS ones I've used in the past.

My bumper was loose at first but it actually seemed to shrink to the fit the phone after a few hours of handling... I've read reports of some people heating the bumper to shrink it.

Yeah, not a fan of the rattle and I don't love how the vibrate switch is harder to reach... but other then that, I'm digging it. Signal issues all gone and now I'm not wiping off every surface before I set my phone down.

For the signal issue, I think Apple ought to give us a $30 iTunes credit as reimbursement (assuming the software fix does jack) - because if it weren't for that, I'd probably still be going naked.

So this just keeps getting weirder (probably not a real word), but now I have 5 bars of service and no matter how I hold the phone in the bumper, the service doesn't drop. I'm at the exact same spot (my desk at work) as I was when I wrote the above. Strange...

Well fair is fair, I got my white bumper today and I really like it. Of course the plug on the bottom is the smaller size, but I went on eBay and just replaced my two older "fat" USB cables with OEM Apple ones for about $5 a pop and I still have the other slim one that came with the iPhone 4.

This bumper is a MUCH tighter fit; it BARELY moves around, but you really have to try to notice it, unlike my black one. Who knows if it is because it's a later production or what - but it fits better. I also like the contrast between black and white. Fortunately, I bought this bumper BEFORE Jobs announced his giveaway and they became unavailable on Apple.com, because who knows when you'll get your bumper when they're giving away 3 million cases (actually less, they'll be refunding those with cases already - like me). Finally, proclips is coming up with a car holder/charger like my old one so for now I'm using my iphone 3G holder without a charger and just using a regular USB type to cigarette lighter to charge.

My advise - if you have a bumper, try it out for a few days, just be aware, many accessories will not work wth the bumper on.

not happy

with the dirt that collects under the rubber corners. I am too OCD to be able to ignore. My coworkers are laughing every time they hear the dust-off in my cubicle and I don't blame them. I am glad I can get a refund for it and once my anntenn-aids get here the bumper is coming off. Might wait to see what incase has to offer once they are available.

Don't get me wrong, i do love this phone. just have always hated hiding it.

both my white and black one fit like a glove - no movement at all.

I like the design and think it was a smart idea. With a film back and front it's very unique.

The plastic part of my bumper is already all scratchy and I've hardly used it. It really looks like crap. I'm keeping mine until Apple announces which cases will be free. If I can get a Pixelskin HD instead I'll go with that.

How does the bumper affect your ability to slide the phone in and out of your pocket? I heard the bumper is rubber, so is it hard to slide the phone out of your pocket?

I can't speak for any color other than the black but it's definitely a little tougher to get it out of your pocket than I would like. I've heard that the black is more rubbery than the other colors and I believe it since there's a little more friction than I would like. I've taken mine off for other reasons anyway though.

The bumper is a freaking lint magnet for the screen. I hate it, I hope they release a list for free cases soon.

I have the pink, and it's a non issue for me. In and out of both front and back jeans' pockets with no problems at all. Also not having the lint problems others have reported...guess they really did use different materials for the different colors. My only complaint is the 30 pin connector port being too small for anything other than the Apple OEM cables. It does work fine in one set of speakers that has a universal dock, so long as I use it without any of the included inserts. Doesn't fit at all in an older Altec Lansing set that was designed for the first gen iPhone, which is annoying. I'm in the market for a dock connector now that will work with the bumper for that one.

Overall, I'm pleased with it, even more so now that it'll be free.
