Question... If you eventually decide to put two SSDs in the MBP, is there any reason not to mix brands (like a Crucial and a Samsung)?

Got to love technology. I paid over 200 for my first CD burner. It burned at 8x speed.

That optical bay caddy you bought... is it SATA3 speed or SATA2? Or does the caddy itself not determine that? The eBay listing you linked just says "SATA" which to me means SATA2. A SATA3-capable SSD like the Samsung 830 would be really bottlenecked by that!

I just bought a 15" Pro (returning the Air) and am looking for the right caddy to house my SSD...

I just did the same thing yesterday! Got the Intel 320 120GB SSD 2 months ago to swap out the main HDD. Sooo much faster but the space started to get a little cramped. So I bought a $15 Hard Drive Caddy and put the original 500GB HDD in the optical drive and now I'm happy with the setup.

Definitely got a little freaked out removing a screw I shouldn't have, but luckily it worked like a charm.

Well, as long as we're going there . . .

I paid over $200 for my first CD-ROM. It didn't burn anything (except a hole in my wallet). It didn't do anything at 'x' speed, because it was '1', the baseline, the beginning of 'multi-media'. It was 1993. The CD-ROM drive fit into one of my 5.25" bays, IDE connections, read at 150 kB/sec, write not available. It came with Secret of Monkey Island CD, Loom CD, and Where the Hell is Carmen Sandiego?

Good times . . .

I could be wrong but this is how I understand it. SATA is a type of connection and 1, 2 or 3 is defined by the motherboard. Think USB.

But yes, I'm getting SATA3 speed.

Awesome post. Just ordered both the Caddy and Optical Drive Enclosure. Cheap enough to give a try. Going to install my stock 750GB in the Optical Bay.

Question though, how much more battery life does the second HDD take away from the system?

Nothing significant. I didn't notice any drop.
