Finally Qualcomm has stopped chasing a high core count!

I remember when people didn't think smartphones would be very useful until they got one, then they thought GPS wouldn't be useful in a phone, until they got a phone with one. Always great to see what people realise when they actually get the feature.

If I wanted real multi tasking I guess my new sp4 fits the bill.😛 My point is why do something in a half-way style when i got the real deal, I remote into my systems on my iPhone, but even on my iPad it's annoying, works much better on a real computer...in a pinch though.

That is fantastic, I'm glad for you, however one doesn't always need the power or size of a SP4 or always have it with them.

Part of my job is social media management, I could get a query on a saturday night while I'm at a friend's place or while out doing the fast food run, chances are I won't have a tablet, but I can have a document open e.g. in Adobe, and browse it, highlight points for the query while I am looking at the query in the social media app in the opposite window. You have no idea how helpful that is, makes that part of my job very easy, I can respond quickly, make the potential customer happy and my client happy for such an accurate and well put response.

No Half-way style here 🙂

That's great that you get to do what you need, we all should be able to that. Different use cases for different people. I'm not debating the utility of anything, I'm saying based in what one does one size doesn't fit all, but bravo you found a great tool.🙂

This is why I do not write-off features, no matter how niche they are, unless they truly make no sense in being there.

Multiwindow was barely used by me in my GS3, it wasn't well implemented, the GS4 got a bit better, but with the Note 4 Samsung hit the nail on the head, with the floating windows and floating app heads (like FB Chat Heads), they expanded nicely on it. The screenshots above that I posted were an example of how far one can take it. There are days where I HAVE TO use multiwindow, mainly for taking notes e.g. of recipes or guides, I'll have either YouTube or Video player going along with OneNote, other days I go bonkers and try find other usage scenarios, the latest being doing budgets in AdWords: having the Media Recon open in GDrive, along with AdWords in the 2nd window and then the Calculator floating on top of both.

My Note 4 will help me optimise client AdWords Accounts while I'm on vacation -this may sound crazy but any PPC Manager will tell you that you can never truly turn off from client acc. You start having dreams of blowing client budgets before end of the month, or something going wrong e.g. a landing page or the website, and needing to pause or change the campaign leading to that page.
 
Rumor has it Qualcomm is making an 8 core version of the 820 now that Samsung dropped a 7500 geekbench multi score.

Qualcomm stock took almost a 20% drop in the last 2 weeks also

So I guess more cores do matter.

When your job is to make chips, cores matter more. Qualcomm has to deal with a multinational technology monster as its main competitor.

But more cores is in fact better.is the iPad pro not faster than the a9 dual core in processing power?

What about gpu cores? Do they not matter either? Like the tegra x1 with its massive 128 gpu cores? Oh wait how many gpu cores does the a9 have.

The iPad Pro has a dual core CPU.

I didn't expect that either, but it shows something good that a dual core A9X is more powerful than a Tri Core A8X. As for Android running on the A9, that'd pretty cool.

You're not getting my point. GENERALLY two wider cores should wreck 4 weak cores. That's fact. Are you trying to say the FX series by AMD is better than Intel because of core counts?

Oh and the A9X is a dual core. Wanna bash my point? At least be factually correct.

I suspect the tri core was a one off because the way that 20nm was produced, it wouldn't allow much efficiency if the SOC was clocked past a certain point.

EDIT: Because I believe that 20nm used planer and 14/16 uses FINFET.

You do know the ipp a9x is dual core right?

Cores matter if they're being utilized properly. If Apple is meeting and/or exceeding the competition by efficiently utilizing less cores than it can be telling how efficient other oems are being by trying to cram 6, 8 even more just to try to get their software to run "right".

Cores do matter. I have a 6 core intel processor and more cores can make a difference. The difference is my desktop is not going to run out of juice by staying in high performance mode and my case has massive fans to keep it cool. More cores matter on a mobile device as well but the parameters are much different as the biggest enemy of cores on a mobile device is heat and power. So the chip designs have to take that into account and the bottom line is what the user experience is. Hardware for hardwares sake is a waste except for bragging rights.

The a9x ADDED a motion core that is not on the a8x and doubled its gpu cores.

More cores do matter and what will u say when apple goes tri core in its next run with its twister fat cores on 10nm ?

Wtf does amd weak cores have anything to do with this?

Samsung just put out its specs on its next gen exynos chip.guess what they did on the gpu? They are using the exact same architecture as the old one but added 4 more gpu cores. It's using 12 cores now in its gpu and rumor has it they have a plus version coming out with a 16 core gpu.

We were talking about CPU performance. Not GPU. And a motion sensor? BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! You seriously think THAT improves CPU or GPU performance????? How....

Oh and just watch. When they go 10nm, they WONT add a third core. You're just trying to desperately save face when talking about something that you have no idea about.

AMD was an example to show that more cores do NOT matter. Otherwise why else would Intel's Sandybridge at the time beat Steamroller?

Qualcomm also added dedicated isp cores to off load CPU tasks.

Man you are clueless. So if Samsung added 2 more fat cores its not going to add any more performance right?

Oh wait Qualcomm is looking at a huge disaster and there stock took a dump because the 820 is not looking like it will stand a chance against the exynos and they are rushing to get an 8 core version out.

Cores do add performance bud

Then why was my dual core iPhone 6+ as fast as the S6? Why is my 6S+ faster? Less cores, so less performance according to your logic.

To give you a short quick answer its not as fast and can not crunch as much CPU power as the exynos mongoose its not even close.the gpu power alone with its mp12 gpu is insane and you are confusing wide fat cores that have a specific tdp and are designed to have insane single core power and are limited to there specific tdp levels.

Watt for watt you will never clock a a9x anywhere close to the new exynos 8 because it will draw to much heat

Apple went fat wide cores.the rest went 4 almost as fat cores with 4 helper cores for low tasks.

That is why they can also clock them a little higher also

I would assume its down to OS and Heat Dissipation. Android is built to run multiple processes at any given time even when running benchmarks things are happening unless you root and stop it all, and with the CPUs having many cores and little room to release it, your Android with an 8core SoC have a lower throttle limit.

This is my issue with comparing Android phone benchmarks with iPhone, these are two OSs built to run differently. We would need to have an Android device run iOS or vice versa to get a true reflection of performance.

I NEVER said that. big.LITTLE has never worked with using more wide cores. It's always been one pair is weak and the other pair strong. You know what? This is just like banging my head against the wall. I'm done arguing with you. More cores only matter if they're more wide cores or if the OS hammers all cores.
