Bug:

If you send someone a request, they get an email which says they have sent a request to themselves!

e.g. If I (Neil Jones) send a request to my wife (Tracy Jones), she gets an email saying:

Tracy Jones (neil@abcdefg.com) wants to follow your location...

[Update]

Looks like an intermittent bug though, either that or Apple have already noticed and fixed it as I've just tried to replicate and it worked as it should

And why should they rejoice? You can't be stalked by anyone unless you give them permission to do so.

Never heard of sarcasm, have you?

Plus even if you have to give permission, there could be ways to hack this. Or the stalker could just impersonate someone the stalkee knows to get them to agree to be stalked. :)

To be able to track your friends? Not sure they will be glad to provide this information all the time...

That’s why it’s off by default, and if you DO find it useful, when you turn it on you can set a time limit. That way you can all find each other today at the big event (or whatever) but then tracking is turned off afterward. You don’t even have to remember to turn it off! Very well thought out, and very useful for certain situations/events.

Find My Friends = Google Latitude

Find My Friends looks like Apple's version of Google Latitude, which has been around for quite some time, so I'm not sure what all the excitement is about.

my wife's phone and mine both use the same apple ID. So I am not seeing a way for me to use this with her...

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

Won't this drain the battery if location services are turned on?

That's what I was wondering. I remember deleting Google Latitude (which basically does the exact same thing as this) because the constant tracking/updating does use up your battery.

It's Apple-flavored, duh! ;)
You know how people are about this kinda thing. Personally, I won't be using it. Facebook/4square checkins are more than enough for me.

Not working for me.

any time i try to accept a request i get a message asking me to verify my apple id by following a link. a dead link.

don't have this issue with anything else in iOS 5 that uses my apple id.

Ok, it seems to be find my friends demands an email address as username for an apple id so people like myself who have changed their id to a word/name cannot use the feature.

Entering my old MobileMe email (the email linked to my named appleID) has find my friends try to create a new apple id out of this email, therefore asking me to verify the address. of course this doesn't work because that email address is already linked to my named apple id.

Also, going back to the https://appleid.apple.com url and trying to remove the "name" doesn't work because the link is dead.

A real pain in the butt so far.
