Solutions people! I'd love some solutions:D

You could try attaching a pair of fingernail clippers to your keychain. That's one possession that I always have with me. When you notice that snag and go for that first bite, go for the clippers instead.

On top of that, start a photo gallery of your improving fingertip health. Take a picture today and another next week. Then another a week later. When you actually compare and see the progress you're making you'll be motivated to continue.

Good luck!

Me too. Thanks Ke1ington.

At this point, unless there are no new ideas, I think I'm going to combine Ke1ington's idea and WildCowboy's idea. I think that going with small goals (one or two fingers at a time), and building up to the final goal of completely stopping is a realistic strategy for me.

I've tried many times in my life to quit, so I know how hard this will be. Even with a plan, it will be tough.

On the bright side, at least it's not smoking, drinking, or a serious drug habit that I'm trying to quit....

I was a horrible nail biter. I kind of outgrew it when I passed through my teens. Once in a while I'll end up picking one down a bit but not much.

Bare in mind, however, I do still have to consciously remind myself not to at times.

What worked best for me is when I had some teeth pulled that stopped me from being able to do it for a few years. Since I was totally unable to without shoving my finger back to my molars, I now just no longer have the feeling to. It's great. :)

Another option that worked for a friend of mine is to cut them daily so there's nothing to bite.
