Theft on a grand scale

Not that i think people will get their little fingers cut off, but could easily see people get hurt from potential robbers wanting that phone unlocked when they steal it, especially among the women.

The more serious robbery will be that you never see.

Unless Apple has prevented this with iOS7, and it most likely has not, then it will not matter where your fingerprint data is stored. The NSA will have their hands on it, and by using this feature you are handing your fingerprints over to them. As well, for that matter, everything else on your phone: metadata, your movements and location, all communications, contacts, you name it.

Nor is the Black Berry or Android devices any more secure. The NSA has breached them all.

Worry about that.

Especially among women? How silly.
How many stories do you hear of of stolen iPhones where people were forced to give their passcode? Now apply that to the new unlock method and tell me that you still think this is a big concern?

As a woman I can tell you that I worry about this far less than you do.

They already know how to unlock passcodes but currently have no means to unlock this touch ID.

Not a good comparison.

So what? If NSA wants anything from you they can get it one way or the other. Why fingerprint matters? Stop fear mongering people. If you want to avoid NSA go live in the forest.

A bit of a straw man here.

Settings - General - Passcode Lock - Simple Passcode=OFF.

It's amazing how many people don't use this, let alone have a single bloody clue as to what this does, as you can make your passcode something more than just 4 digits.

Seeing that you are giving anyone who has your phone a 1:10000 chance to get your code right is odds that, as some of the FUD in this thread is going, too much of a risk to accept. So simply make your passcode more complex.

Agreed. I'm willing to bet that a lot of people here didn't seem to mind it when, as children, mommy and daddy took them to get fingerprinted as part of their vital records.. nor minded the fact that such fingerprinting was already done for them when they were born.

Seriously, this is somewhat of a non-issue, and I'm saying this as a sysadmin who works side by side with an ISO.

EDIT: The question that should be asked, is that when you get rid of your iPhone 5S, and that phone is wiped/set up as new, does it keep a record of any pre-existing fingerprints. If so, then you may have an issue.
