THIS will forever tarnish the Samsung brand and could not have come at a better time for Apple.

Erm, no! It's ONE device with the problem and Apple devices have blown up on planes before, has that ruined their reputation too?

Apple have even managed to burn houses down:

And if you leave an iPhone charging on a bed it will also catch fire, like this case where the person died as a result:

I found all those cases in 2 mins of googling so please stop with the overblown hyperbole eh? Because by your logic Apple should have gone bust years ago...

Doesn't look like they fixed the problem - either they don't understand the real problem or its too expensive for them to choose to fix properly. If there are more of the replacements that go up in smoke this will be very bad for the Samsung brand.

Will be marginally good for Apple and Google (what a time to launch for them), but other Android vendors will probably benefit the greatest.

No it won’t, don't be ridiculous. People have short memories and smaller wallets than they would like. If price and circumstance suits them they will very likely change anything - not just their phone.

That's an extreme generalization. There are a number of brands I would never buy from phones to PC's to cars to guitars to appliances to you name it. Most people who are looking at buying a flagship smartphone have plenty of choices for the price.

This is really quite worrying. Imagine if you left your phone on the sofa or a bed and then this happened? It could burn your whole house down.

It's scary to think he even powered the phone off and only then it began to combust, not even whilst charging.

LOL, tumble driers have done that too and guess what. Those companies are still in business.

Im gonna hazard a guess that everyone skips by this post and pretends it never existed.
It must be so sweet living in an ivory tower..

Yes it absolutely will hurt the brand. This is more than just some isolated incident reported on a tech website. The Note 7 issue is practically ubiquitous.

In airports, you've got signs and announcements talking about this phone. It's all over the media.

Next time people go to buy Samsung device: be it a phone, a washing machine, a fridge, or a television, it just takes a split second "Samsung = explodes" thought to change that decision. Why gamble your safety on technology?

That's what people mean by irreparable. The long term damage for the brand is almost unimaginable.

I don't think Samsung will ever truly recover from this. The damage to the brand is irreparable.

I agree somewhat. Yes, the brand is tarnished. And trust is a huge factor when it comes to brand loyalty.

But, remember, Samsung sells millions of phones. While we're hearing of issues weekly, I'm guessing the majority are happily using their Note7 without issues.

Look at Antennagate or Bendgate. Many stories of iPhone 6's bending. But the majority including myself, have had no problems what so ever. The Apple brand is as strong as ever.

So what? People will still buy this phone and lots of other products from lots of other companies after hearing lots of others speak ill of them. Why? As I’ve said before, price and circumstance. Count on it.

Hahaha I know, that was the first google page! Their have been a LOT of story's over the years of failing Apple devices, we even know someone in our village who's iPad charger burnt their house down! We NEVER leave ours unattended because if that.

Its almost certain you will find horror story's about most manufactures that have and do exist, plenty of different car maker recalls have taken place over the years.
But as you said, the ivory tower is great.

Actually I think overall Apple devices are MORE dangerous then Samsung ones going by the news story's.
