What is the point of new browsers if you can't even make any of them the default? I just got an iPhone and regretting it every day.

When this was mentioned here a few months ago, I tried it (built from source code) and I really liked it. It's one of very few third-party browsers that use the new web view in iOS 8, so the performance is a good as Safari. If you compare it to Chrome iOS, benchmarks are significantly better and it feels faster too.

I preferred Chrome for the way you interact with tabs, and this works the same way. Not sure if it's changed in later beta builds, but in earlier betas you could switch the tabs between full-width like Chrome or the small previews like pictured on their app store screenshots.

In short, if you like Chrome on iOS, consider giving Firefox a try for the performance boost.

You can switch the default browser if you jailbreak your iPhone.

I find that to be ridiculous plus the phone can't be jail broken because of the software version. I have afew days to decide if I will keep or return. Leaning towards return because of the limitations and I much prefer Android notifications.

Good to have more options.

Are use Safari 70% of the time and Mercury browser for the rest. If Safari truly supports ad blocking in IOS 9 I'll probably switch to it for everything.

Then take it back. Though how you didn't know you can't change the default browser is beyond me.

Unless you're just trolling, which it sounds like you probably are.

I feel like I should be excited because I can be first to get something......but I really can't get excited about a browser. Plus safari works pretty well for me, so I'll stick with it.

I'll still stay with Safari:

1) it syncs perfectly with my Mac and iPad as well as handoff features.

Yep, let's hope that Handoff will get extended to other apps soon.

Firefox anyway syncs in its own way - and since it's open source there is a chance that its sync mechanism can be tapped by other browsers. Probably the same applies to Chrome too. But Safari rather locks you in because of iCloud-mediated sync and of how the open tabs and bookmarks are accessed by the user.

2) it's fast. Generally one of, if not the fastest mobile browser on iPhones.

Firefox for iOS is being tested now - and you already know that Safari is faster?
Hint: in arewefastyet.com you can see that Firefox in desktop is faster than Safari (and Chrome) in most tests, in most architectures, in most OSes… and that it has been so for a long time already.

3) I can't change an app default, so if I click a link somewhere it will automatically open in safari anyway.

So, you are converting Apple's mandate in your willfull choice? Way to go.
To me that is more like a reason to ask for changes.

You guys do know that there are millions of iOS users that don't have Macs and would like to be able to sync their bookmarks and other browser data with their devices?

You do know that the other guys were just expressing their personal preference: "I don't need another browser" doesn't mean "I don't think other browsers should be available"

I would like to add to your list that iCloud for PC syncs with Firefox bookmarks seamlessly. So, I already have what I need from my desktop version of Firefox without having to load an additional application on my devices.

Amazed that Mozilla finally got off their high horse and is now looking into coming to iOS...This is coming from a long loyal Firefox user

It's apparently not possible to make an iTunes account without a credit card? Was going to make another New Zealand account (forgot my old information).

EDIT: Never mind. Forgot that you get the "none" option once you actually try to get an app.

EDIT 2: Apparently they know what I'm up to:

EDIT 3: Apparently, I had an old NZ iTunes account to use.

Safari View Controllers in iOS 9 make it even less likely for someone to use 3rd party browsers- most links I click I don't want switching apps and opening the browser anyway, and the Safari View controllers make the "popup" web view you get from within apps a lot nicer to use (will work with your safari extensions, support the security features of Safari, etc.).

There isn't really any reason to switch browsers if they will all run the same code it will result if same results. There are plenty of good browsers because maybe you favour one GUI over the other or some other reason. Here are some of the best: - Mercury, Dolphin, Chrome, and iCab. All are great. I favour iCab because it has most features.

Firefox probably won't add anything new to the browser market but I highly support free-web and privacy.

Proper password, tab and bookmark syncing are enough for me (though I've been using Safari just fine for ages).

Other apps already support Firefox sync as far as I know. Give iCab a test. I think Mercury does the same too.

It was a silly and childish position that just ended up hurting them. Since I couldn't sync my Firefox bookmarks across all of my devices without shady middle-man apps I dropped Firefox on everything else and went to other browsers that allowed it. And I'm certain my case isn't unique.

Looking forward to having it back across the board.
