That would be heaven, but I think all we'll see is Copy and paste, no sms lag, and better battery life. Wasn't the push feature for apps removed from the beta?

Wasn't the push feature for apps removed from the beta?

It was, so putting it back in without going through beta would be pretty pointless because there will be no apps available to take advantage of it!

I would actually be pretty annoyed if there are new features in the next firmware release: Apple have to realise they're catering for an ecosystem not a closed system now and if they are going to introduce new features they should include them in the betas so developers can account for them in new apps.
Apart from that, until Apple start releasing betas with full functionality, they're not going to get over the current quality control issues - they are effectively making the end users the beta testers unless it's been thoroughly tested beforehand by a broad cross-section of users...

Push service and updated Maps are probably the only hidden features. I still don't think they will add MMS, Copy/Paste, Improved 3G etc.

Anything that, directly or indirectly, gives evidence towards the rumored ~5.5" mini-tablet running an enhanced iPhone OS with new features. They could include resolution independence, split screen, etc.

But I'm not putting too much faith in that prediction, simply due to the lack of recent rumors on the mini-tablet. But Apple could be ultra-secretive on it, which would explain the features being secret. Alternatively, they could be for the iPhone OS on the rumored Mac OS X tablet Mac.

I just came to a startling discovery! Maybe PUSH actually WILL be enabled in 2.1 on Tuesday... You know how I know?

AIM's servers stopped working on the iPhone AIM app today... maybe they're preparing for the big PUSH update that will be announced on Tuesday and a new version of AIM will be released with it. Why else would AIM be down right now?

Previous reports have said 3G will be fixed in 2.1. I'd settle for **** working at this point and I'd prefer to wait on MMS and Copy/Paste (neither of which I think will be in).

With all the problems we are having with 2.0.x so far, I really hope they are fixing bugs instead of working on new features. But copy and paste would make me very happy.

I'm so excited...

...to be let down again this Tuesday :/
Just keep your hopes down. My expectations are:
  • iTunes 8 with new visualizers
  • iPod shuffle color change only 🙄
  • iPod nano as rumored
  • iPod classic price drop only
  • iPod touch price drop only
Anything more is a (really good) bonus.

How can you have high expectations for this event? Most people are just expecting a new Nano, new Touch, iTunes 8 and 2.1. There isn't really anything mind boggling about any of the current rumours.

Some of what I think are the more outlandish rumors (doesn't necessarily mean they're incorrect or less likely to be true) and speculation are:
  • Mac tablet (~13")
  • Mac mid-tablet (~9")
  • iPhone OS mini-tablet (~5.5")
  • GPS on the iPod touch
  • Apple tv hardware updates
  • Rewritten redesigned iMovie '08-like iTunes 8
  • Notebook updates
  • iPod touch nano
  • 4 GB iPod shuffle
Wanting even some of these gives disappointment when the event happens and they do not happen.

It's not going to be cut and paste - that will have to be available to third parties or it'd be stupid. Likewise, push wouldn't be a "surprise" because it's bloody supposed to be in there!

The obvious thing is app improvements, since developers don't get copies of the apps in the SDK simulator anyway do they?

So could we finally be getting horizontal support on mail and SMS? Or a YouTube interface worth a damn?

Either that, or it'll be "new" apps - bluetooth transfer, or MMS...

I am really hoping for Notes sync. I don't really understand why Apple hasn't done this. They have Notes on the Mac, Notes on the iPhone and you have Notes on PC's with Outlook. They sync calendars and contacts between all of these (even without .Me). Why not Notes? It seems like a basic function to me. But so does cut and paste.
