I'm really tempted to get one of these - but I'd have to open it up and physically disconnect the microphone. No way I'm letting any Alexa microphones in my house...

That is waaaay too much for a device that should be replaced every 10 years. (Some recommend 7 years.)

Actually, it's a brilliant safety idea because the smart speaker will be obsolete, won't support Airplay 3 and probably have been bricked by an update long before the smoke and CO detector are due for replacement...
