I was just on the phone with Apple support last night and they had to set up an in store appointment for me. The person on the phone was amazed that I had 5 Apple stores all within a half hour from where I live. I guess my metropolitan area demographic must skew heavily Apple.
Well, when you live in Los Angeles or Seattle, 30 minutes could be a mile.

Yet, no one mentioned the famous Belgian chocolate, arguably the finest in the world. :p :D

Oh, and beer.
Agreed on the chocolate, not sure about the beer (I'm half German, but all American).

Lastly (or should be firstly), the people are among the friendliest in the world. Enjoyed their company both in and out of the country.

Kind of depressing that even very developed and rich EU countries like Belgium are just now getting their first Apple store. Makes me pessimistic if I'll ever see official Apple presence in my small country. :(

Also in Portugal... Apple Store is inexistent here...... Only small authorised stores which are quite bland here... Even our neighbours like Spain has so many in Madrid and Barcelona...

The building is very ugly, but then again, all new buildings constructed in Brussels are ugly. It's also located on the ring road so there's heavy traffic day and night. It's definitely not a nice area to go shopping. But all expensive brands have a shop there for historic reasons.

At last! Glad they managed to open it. It was long due.

And there's this thing about Brussels and Belgium: people tend to bash the city for whatever reason. Whatever they build, do or whatever happens in the city, people will say it would be better somewhere else!

Now this building is "ugly". Had it been located in Antwerp (or any other city around) and it would have been "beautifully Gaudí-inspired" [insert any other superlative]. But yeah, I guess the Meir street will have to wait a bit longer...

Hehe, I understand what you are saying, but I'm not a fan of Antwerp. I love Brussels and we have beautiful architecture. I like some of the new buildings, like this one, (sorry forgot the name)

from what I could find, it's the Parlement francophone bruxellois (didn't even know such a thing existed lol).

And now...can it be the 19th already? Can't wait to go check the store!

Anyone have a full picture of that building or know the address? It looks interesting.

You can see some photos in this Belgian thread.

It's a brand-new construction on one of the premium retail streets in the city. On the opposite site of the road you have the Gucci, Versace, etc. shops.

It's about ******g time they opened a store here, we've had to deal with horrible re-sellers up to now which, as a result, I tend to buy everything online.

(note that Belgian customer service is the worst...!)

You could not've said it any better. I'm a native Belgian and have lived in Brussels for a considerable amount of time now. Soooo frustrated with anything related to commerce here.

I hope we won't get a Belgian version of the Apple experience when it opens here..

Do you have any idea if the employees will be bilingual? Or dedicated people for French and Dutch?

I remember checking their job offers and they were FR/NL + EN. Not sure if for all positions, but I remember seeing this and forwarding the info to a friend :)

Finally. Finally. Finally.
From the pioneers in the 80'ies like Paul Van Cottem (he spoke with the same passion as Steve Jobs) when Apple was kind of an underdog, up to the glorious years of the iPhone debute when the 'Switch shops' where struggling to get hold on a fez iPhones... It sometimes looked like Apple never heared of our country. Finally our capital is blessed with an Apple Store.
Thanks!
Pitty that I'm not invited for the opening :-( ;-)
But I'll be one of the first to bring it a visit.

So bad, man…Went to Apple retailer, asked about how to fix my iPhone with dust behind the camera lens. Got a printed map to some placed out in the wazoo to the north-west. I lived downtown, but it would still take one and an half hours to get there. Nope.

Very happy Brussels got its Apple Store. I mean, they already have a lobby office at Square de Meeûs.
