its actually a lot harder to tell the difference between the non-retina and retina iPads. the first time i went to see the retina version in the apple store i was on the non-retina without even noticing. i would say go for it.

You need to get your vision checked.

I have a Ipad Mini and an Ipad 4, yes there's a difference in screen but people overstate the Retina thing. Obviously if you can afford a Retina Mini get that but if not then the original Mini is fine. I'm waiting to see what comes out this year before I bother upgrading.

I find the ipad mini screen resolution is fine at the viewing distance I use. Retina makes no difference to me. Different story with my phone though.

Definitely. The difference between retina and non-retina is massive. Especially in iOS 7, which was designed to get rid of the gradients and shadows, and let the retina display shine through.

its a great product in and out.. i don't think bad about the non-retina because its not that bad. However, im a techie so i have to had a retina on my mini. other than that, i would've been happy with my ipad mini 1st gen.
btw im selling my pristine 1st gen white ipad mini 32gb for 284 :) just to put things in perspective.

It's so not worth it in terms of spec. the ipad mini is running a cpu that is 2 -3 generation older(depends on how you look at it) The resolution is 1/4 the pixels. The $100 difference buys you a lot of upgrade.

That's only true for some people. The actual screen difference is quite significant. It's just not as important to some people. One should go see a Retina display for yourself before deciding.
