Have your friend get their child a Windows 7 phone.

Its already a POS, and if they break it no one would care anyway. :D

Ok, just joking. But if you're going to spend $130 why not just get a newer iPod Touch that will come with a warranty, has a retina screen, much faster, and supports all the latest software.

Wait a minute. First gen iPhones are selling for $130?!

I was going to sell mine back in the summer but they were only going for $50 bucks or so, and I figured that wasn't worth it so I've just hung on to it.

And back to your first reply.....all I mentioned was that there may be app compatibility with a 2g, and there is. To that you replied, completely wrong, when in fact, it is a very relevant issue to consider. I am not sure why you replied in the manner you did.

Not to mention that the older devices with the latest os they can support run very sluggishly

the way i see it an iphone 2g will work with almost every app except for a select few. however, its 3 year old hardware. it might not last very much longer. plus with apple you never know what they will do and soon just block the old devices from downloading because the hardware doesnt support some new api's or something weird like that. i didnt understand if they are buying a 2g or if they already own one. if they already own one then give the child that but if you want to find a 2g that works well its gonna be around 140. you might as well spend a little more and get something more updated that will last longer.

I think a 2G is more than capable as an iPod touch for an 8 year old. It's not like he/she will be online looking for the best/newest games. At least I don't think so lol.
