must be the same kind of data that didn't tell them that half ios7 users can't update to ios8 because they don't have enough space on their 16GB devices.
as you say this is just to squeeze some extra cash from consumers. it's still a dick move though. they'll regret it too. it will frustrate a LOT of users at the expense of a tiny uptick in profit margins.

Half users don't have a PC? You can update even 8G phones with Itunes. More FUD this one was good enough.

BTW, got a 16G 3GS for 5 years and dozens of apps on it, 4G of songs and a few TV episodes. I consume most of my media at home through DLNA and on the net through my own DLNA server on my on network. Will soon get a 6+.

Reflectivity comments -- any?

I don't see any mention of the anti-reflectivity. Is it really something you can notice?

Lol, I quoted the first 3 posts pointing out how the bend comments are out of hand, so naturally the mods delete my post and leave the others untouched. Unbelievable.

i must say i find your statements contradictory.

personally i dont see them as "giving" 64 for he price of 32 but rather selling you the 16 for the price of a 32.

i think the market leader should not have to play these kinds of games. with ota updates, pictures taking up more space and all kinds of apps for everything available i find the 16 for an ipad is criminally small space.

16GB is pretty insulting. It doesn't cost them much at all to sell you more storage space.

The iPad has always needed vibration, and now they've removed the silence switch altogether?

I was bored by this event today. No mention of a 5K standalone display, and no updates on the Mac Pro.

I know... there's only so much that one company can execute perfectly in 12 months, and Apple has done their best. Kudos to them for what they have achieved.

Yep. Needs have changed since 16GB base models were originally introduced, so failing to upgrade them amounts to a hidden $100 price increase.

More models and hidden prices increases doesn't strike me as a sound strategy for slumping iPad sales. The Air 2 delivers for the price, but the the rest of of the tablet line is unspired to put it mildly.

Just now seeing the updates now and reading about them and I do wonder why Apple never put the A8X in the mini 3 as well? That's what was nice about the Air/Mini2, they shared identical components and only difference was screen size and battery.

If they made it any slimmer, people would confuse it with the iPhone 6 Plus. ;)
Slimmer means lighter. And did you see that they could fit a non-protruding 8 mpx camera in the 6.1 mm iPad Air 2, but not in the 6.9 mm iPhone 6 or the 7.1 mm iPhone 6 Plus. Oh Apple, what are you doing?

it is noticeable. Between imac and ipad/iphone it's a big difference. So the ipad will be almost like the imac in anti-reflectivity

With the lamination it contributes to the display seeming more immediate and sharp - the "painted on" look.

Can't wait to see these in person.

kinda sad that i cannot preroder because i have to wait if some has checked for the ram... :(

Not the same camera, the iPad cam has f/2.4 aperture vs. f/2.2 on the iPhone. Smaller pixels than the iPhone as well, so it's a different sensor.

iPhone camera is far superior, as it should be.

and add to it that you are always getting the best price per GB if you buy the biggest.

why the need to do 16-64 and cause a lot of headache?

because with the cloud or just doing web/facebook, many people don't even need 8GB of space. you have to remember who buys majority of these things.

thats ignoring the space needed for an ota update. then there is the fact that apps and their data often balloon in size and messages as well. yet no native solution to fix that from apple.

in the same way there are lots of people that need less than 100 GB in their desktop yet apple hasnt been as stuck in the past in that department.

Yes, why is it that the iPad Air 2 has the exact same camera as the iPhone 6+ yet it doesn't protrude on the iPad Air 2?

Could it be that the camera on the iPhones is better in some way that requires it to be thicker?

Fact is 64GB is $100 cheaper than it was before. But I do think Apple should've kept 32GB and removed 16GB.

The Air 2 has OIS?

The OIS alone takes space on the 6+ and the cameras are not the same. Smaller sensor allow a camera module thats not as thick.

Because they want to annoy people like me who get calls from their parents and grandparents wondering how they can clear off more space, and why the iOS 8 won't install. I even told them to get 32GB but people often buy what is cheap, not what they need. "You mean I went from a Dell laptop with a 120GB hard drive to an iPad with 16GB and I can't store all my photos?" Yep. At least now iCloud Drive will help with that, but then again older people fear the cloud and don't like paying monthly. At least the older people in my life don't.

It's not just 'older people' that worry about putting all their stuff in the cloud. I bet Rihanna and Jennifer Lawrence are a lot more selective now too.

Having all your stuff available everywhere yeah cool. Trusting a third party to store it for you unencrypted is a liability.

****! what do we do now .. if the ipad air 2 feels lighter than the ipad mini at 0.25 pounds heavier even though it really only shaved off 0.04 pounds from the air ... does this mean that heavy is the new light? or is gizmodo puffing the magic dragon?

well bully for you but you are just one data point.

Lots of users NEVER plug in their iphones and ipads into PC and lots of others don't know about this upgrade option. the ios8 adoption numbers speak for themselves. Federighi mentioned today that ios 8 adoption is at 48%. well, it was 46% over three weeks ago
https://www.macrumors.com/2014/09/23/ios-8-adoption-46/
it's been basically stalled since then. and lack of space is the chief reason for this people cite here and on twitter.

in comparison ios 7 was at 73% on October 18 last year.
https://www.macrumors.com/2013/10/1...es-but-adoption-rates-much-slower-than-ios-6/

just why do you think that is?

The end game is being light enough you could hold it all day end not feel it. When its down to the weight of a Kindle Paperwhite of the same size (probably around 375g), it will have reached its goal. Right now it is at 444g. So, I'd say there's one more downsizing in its future with current battery technologies.

When it's thin enough to fit into one of the translucent dividers in a three ring binder and not be any thicker than the sheets of paper.

I have an iPad 2 from early 2011 so I'm ready for this one. I am one of the ones that appreciates the touch ID. To me, it really is better to just put my finger on the button to unlock it. But the real reason is it's going to be a huge upgrade for me from the iPad 2 plus I'll get cellular version this time. I have regretted having only wireless.

I also could see taking pictures with it if it's all I'm carrying and I'm not blocking someone's view doing it.
