So does anyone else's get warm doing the simplest things, like just browsing the web?

Its on the right side, about halfway up on the back of the device. I assume one of the processors/graphics chips is in that location. It's not uncomfortable to hold, but annoying. I can understand gaming, but just regular browsing of the web should not heat it up this much IMO.

Yep, but I found mine was getting hot only when installing apps. For casual browsing it's mostly fine.

I have several iPads at home. Brand new Air 2, and old Air 1, mini 1, iPad 3, iPad 2.

The Air 2 is awesome in terms of thinness, but does not feel much lighter than my Air 1. The 2 GB of RAM is extremely noticeable. it is great not having to reload webpages any more. Even after a day, and doing a bunch of other activities, surfing other sites, etc., the original tabs with lots of pictures, etc. still remained in cache without ever needed to reload. Forms stay filled out also.

Speed wise, Air 2 is faster than Air 1, but Air 1 is still a decent machine. iPad 3, 2 and mini are virtually unusable with some apps on iOS 8. I will be selling or giving these away.

I thought I would miss the lock rotation switch, but I don't at all as it's simple enough to swipe up and lock... easier even in some ways.

The battery life, is decent, but it is not nearly as good as any of my old iPads... even the iPad 2 which is what? 3 yrs old now? The battery drains while it's just sitting idle - something that never happened on any of my other iPads. With that said, I am cycling the battery now and I'm optimistic battery life will improve. It's not bad... just not to the same high standards as all of the previous iPads.

I don't mind the compromise so much on battery life as I think portability and weight of the iPad are much more critical factors than just battery life. I hope Apple can return to the same prior battery performance next gen while making the iPad even lighter. I doesn't have to get thinner... just lighter in weight.

Now that's great!

However, my first iPad was the iPad mini with retina display and after using it for a while now i see the iPad Air and think it's huge.

I'm REALLY looking forward the next refresh of the iPad mini with the same thin design of the Air 2 and 2 GB of Ram.

Haven't had a ton of time to use it today, but so far, coming from a 4, I am VERY impressed. Screen is fantastic. I have zero noticeable issues. I can't believe how thin and light it is. I have a smart cover on it and a sleeve from Herschel and that's perfect (people who can't get the newer smart covers to stand up are doing it wrong. I have no issues.) I see what people are saying about the vibration, but I don't see it as an issue at all. It's pretty light.

Anyone is coming from Air 1 and feel very satisfied with their purchase of Air 2?

Got mine this afternoon and have been setting it up, checking things out.

1). Won the screen lottery! It's perfect. No book spine, no dead pixels, absolutely no light bleed. My Air 1 screen was good but this one is even better. I've compared the colors to my Air 1 and they are a bit different. The blue in my beach scene on my home screen is more turquoise. I'm interested to read about the color gamut on this one.

2). It's fast. Everything seems to load faster.

3). Vibration - yes, you can feel the vibration but it doesn't bother me. Mine isn't really bad at about 75% I only hold My iPad when the sound is up when I listen to a quick YouTube so I'm good to go.

4). So far no wifi dropouts. My Air 1 was dropping wifi at least once a day requiring a reboot or sometimes a forget network and once even having to reset all settings. What a pain! But it's too early to tell if this one will do it too.

5). No page reloads!!! That was really bothering me on my Air 1 so I'm happy.

6). Screen glare. Took the new one out to the patio in late afternoon and the reduced glare does work. Usually at that time of day, with the way the sun shines on the patio I have to fiddle and move to get out of the glare. This one really was better. Now to decide in I want a s creep protector. I'm guessing I will. Just too paranoid over scratches.

All in all I'm very happy with my new Air 2. It's a keeper. Now the hand-me-down dance. Wipe and restore my Air 1 with my husband's stuff, wipe and restore my old iPad 3 and restore the Air 1 with my grandsons's, stuff, and then give his even older iPad 2 to my granddaughter. So this weekend will be filled with iPad restores, getting a new sim from ATT and putting new screen protectors on the 2 & 3.

Chris, you don't hear the vibration you feel the vibration. Try holding it in your hands for a little while playing music or a video.
Ah Ok. For me it's a non issue. I guess I expected it with the design of the device. For me, the speaker is fine.

Really happy that nobody is complaining about their WiFi signal dropping.

Still waiting for them to release it in Thailand. IPhone will be here Oct. 31.

I'm getting it Gray. Black. As it should be. Screen and WiFi issues pending I'm getting one. It'll be my laptop replacement

I've noticed you are really worried about it and I can understand. Since my Air 1 had the issue I'll monitor this one for a week or so and post or PM you on my results. Maybe a couple of other folks will do the same so you can make a decision. If just mine works that's not a big enough sample.

On second thought, maybe you should start a thread so many will reply. And bump it in a week.

I love it. I can't believe how it makes my Air look chunky. Very thin and light. Fast all around including data. Touch ID is sweet, finally no more accidental thinking my fingerprint will unlock my iPad like my iPhone! The LTE setup was a surprise to me, it let me add my Air 2 to my AT&T mobile share and get the $100 dollar contract discount with the included Apple SIM. I assumed I'd have to take a trip to the store. It vibrates with music playing, doesn't concerm/bother me. Very glad I picked one up today instead of waiting for my AT&T preorder. Looks like I'll have to take a trip to the AT&T store anyway..... To return it whenever it actually shows up.

My AT&T Next contract makes me eligible for a trade in next month and I'm thinking about trading it in for a Air 2, especially since they a $100 less, Would a smart cover and keeping it in a padded case provide ample protection if I got gold I'd hate to cover it up

I've been using an iPad 4 the past two years. Loved the iPad 4. The iPad Air 2 blows it out of the water.

The Air 2's weight is so light! No discomfort holding it the past two hours and 45 minutes.

After 2 hours 45 minutes of surfing and playing HD videos at 50% brightness, it has used 25% battery. So decent battery life. Should be right around the 10 hours Apple suggests.

The screen is very nice. Text looks super crisp. No dead pixels. Blacks are a nice and deep black. No weird yellowing or other crud going on when displaying an all black background. An all white background and not seeing any weird yellow or pinks. Tried many different viewing angles while HD video is going and all are very pleasing to the eye.

On the iPad 4 with iOS 8.1 I'd experience a touch of lag every now and then. The Air 2 runs silk smooth, responsiveness is very snappy, no lag at all.

The speaker. Eh, yeah, it vibrates. It's noticeable on everything but at least for me not too annoying. The speaker audio does sound good though.

Overall I'm very happy with the iPad Air 2. I highly recommend it!

Does the screen distort if you hold it or put pressure on the back?

Air to Air 2.

Speed is wow and browser windows are rock solid so far.

Vibration is significant, and I can see why some might return it.

I'll be burning in the screen full bore 1080p tomorrow for 6-8 hours, then assessing that.

I don't do much listening through the iPad speaker, and recently began trying BT speakers, so if all else is good I'll keep it.

One thing, Air2 gets noticeably hotter than the Air.

Got some nice backlighting uneveness on the left hand side and the right side gets blazing hot just downloading apps. Gotta be an issue. No way it should get this hot doing virtually nothing.

You hang here too? ;-)

I suspect the heat is normal considering that restoring your device means downloading dozens (or more) apps with simultaneous wi-fi, cpu app installations, data restores etc. mine was warm during restore but cool in normal operation.

Can't speak to the screen issues as I don't notice any, but I do suspect that the anti-glare coating actually results in some odd brightness shifts when tilting the device about 15 degrees in any direction.

But of course. Haha.

And it definitely was my device. Got a new one and it's perfectly fine. No heat issues. I wasn't restoring either. Just downloading the updates for the included apps. I don't use iCloud backup...I always start fresh w devices as I weed out the apps I don't use anymore that way.

Oh and my screen backlight issue is gone now w the new device too. Guess I just got a lemon w the first one.

Good to see u here Sport. ;)

The fingerprint scanner is awesome. was expecting it to be buggy but its dead on. I can sign on with my fingerprint...even holding it different ways. but yet its amazingly secure. it will absolutely not work with any other finger that i didnt register. but yet it will work with the finger i did register, even upside down.

Tried one in the store today and it's an instant buy for me. So thin and safari can hold a lot of large websites without reloading. The vibration is there but it's because this iPad actually has bass and the previous one didn't. It's totally not a deal breaker for me. I finally bought an LTE 64GB space grey version.

Air to Air 2 here (128g SG)

Quite a significant difference to me when held in the hand. I love it. Thinner and somehow feels lighter, regardless of the miniscule weight loss.

My screen is flawless. It does indeed feel more solid, and more responsive to touch (to manipulating notes in Garageband to just scrolling down forum threads), love it. Graphics feel crisper and more up-front, such as the little smileys to my right as I type this.

Comparing the Air and the Air 2 up in a dark room with a single light in the corner, the glare and reflection is quite noticeably less on the Air 2. Haven't tried it outdoors in the day yet but so far I like what I see (or don't see).

No heat issues. Not sure why some are getting that.

Speaker sounds great. Slight vibration? Sure, a tad. Sounds like it has a little more bass than my Air. Doesn't bother me at all.

Wi-fi is blazing fast. No dropouts or other probs some have complained of (had no wi-fi probs on my Air either).

No lock-screen button is ok with me. Hardly even used it anyway.

I'm still rocking the iPhone 4 so this is my first experience with the fingerprint scanner. Really dig it so far. Quick unlock; no password needed - looking forward to trying it out while paying for things and other password usages.

Battery is doing A-ok so far. Been using it a little over two hours and the percentage is still in the high 70s. Screen brightness at about 40-45%. Drainage feels about the same as on the old Air.

Safari... Ahhhhh. I live and I work on the iPad (went from the 1 to the 3 to the 4 to the Air to this Air 2) and finally, Safari feels like it always should have regarding refreshes. Those things drove me nuts. So far, in over 2 hours surfing and researching things, I'm feeling sane. Gotta be that 2G of ram.

This iPad's a keeper. I may even bypass the new one next year (unless that bigger/faster rumored 'iPad Plus' comes to fruition).

Air to air 2, and so far so good. Everything is faster, Safari tabs don't constantly reload, screen looks even better than my Air, so that's a bonus.

Two quibbles: vibration exists and is pretty ridiculous even at 30% volume. I only listen through a set of headphones, aside from the odd YouTube clip with friends so it won't be an issue for me, but I can see how it might be for some. The other quibble is with ATT specifically. Went to replace old air with new, and it wouldn't accept my email address and password at the setup screen. Verified both by logging onto the web portal from Safari, and even called customer care to make sure it was the only email address I had associated with the account. Tried ten times before giving up and just swapped out the fancy apple sim for old ATT sim that was in previous Air. Problem solved. Any issue that can be solved with a paper clip isn't really an issue, I just mention here out of curiosity if anyone else had this same problem.

Yes all 5 I've tried did. But it's not a normal use case. Apple keeps getting thinner and thinner and these things will happen.
I'm just worried if it happens just by holding it normally.

I wish they were here so I could check. It'll probably be another month. Who knows.

Very Happy! Coming from iPad 3 (had a mini 2 in the past as well, may again one day). After a few hours yesterday using the new Air 2 it is exactly what i had hoped for, which was mainly reduced weight. Run time seemed good my usage reduced the battery to 58% which was over about 8 hours of playing, imessage, and installing apps. I need a week or more though to determine the battery life for me though. I've not connected it to cellular yet. Battery life is important to me, in my brief test i think it will be ok.

The tablet was so nice to hold i debated putting even a cover on it. After after a few hours i did put a smart cover on it and it was ok so i left it. I may get a clear shield for the back eventually, but I've never done so for any of my other ipads so i may not. The weight makes me miss my previous mini less.

Using an 5s as my phone i really wanted touch id and it works great on the Air 2. In iOS 8.1 there is the option to use it for apple pay and app purchases separate from using it on lock screen.

My screen is fine, I didn't go looking for issues though, but nothing stands out. On a white screen i can see the book-spine shadow a bit. Nothing in regular use yet though.

I did notice it is very zippy. I don't have any real issues with the speed of the iPad 3 on iOS 6, but the quick operation of the Air 2 even on basic tasks is very nice and will reset my baseline in a short time I'm sure.

The sound vibration issue does not seem like it will be a big issue for me. It's more noticeable if you hold the tablet in your right hand.

My happiness level in the future will depend on battery life.

Notes of caution.
1. iCloud Drive requires iOS 8
2. iPhoto, all the rage a while back on iPhone, has been discontinued and is not available on iOS 8 or 8.1. If you have iPhoto web journals or other handiwork you'll want to read up on this and be prepared. Apple screwed up big time with this.

It's a keeper!

Glad to finally have TouchID on the iPad... BUT.... turning on a password as opposed to a 4 digit code.... Good Grief... The password screen looks like a Fisher Price "My First iPad" looks dreadful.

No distortion holding it? Slight pressure on the back?
