“ninethirty” and “largefarrva” are both right in their way. The folio keyboard is bulky and clumsy and frankly I hate the damned thing. But I like the feel of typing much more than my 2016 TB MBP (the keyboard of which has now been replaced twice) (meaning Apple had to replace the top of the computer because the keyboard is so insanely over-designed).

Had an opportunity to play around with the new iPad Pro today and here are some interesting facts that have not been reported to my knowledge.

1. FaceID needs to be setup in portrait mode, after the initial setup it works in any orientation (I suspect this has less to do with RAM and more to do with software, meaning it is possible to make an aperance on iPhone X if Apple deems necessary).
2. The square-ish/flat design gives it the impression of being thin.
3. Speakers have improved marginally.
4. Bezels seem thinner all-around.
5. Folio cover at times looses its magnetic grip from the device.
6. Folio requires two connections to activate the KB (SmartConnector and the magnetic indentation on the cover.
7. Folio uses the same butterfly mechanism as the previous case and MB/A/P, however due to the fabric feels way better.
8. Pencil 2 with its matte finish and balanced weight feels great, plus no more rolling off a flat surface (only thing missing is a 4 light LED indicator for charge status without connecting to an iPad Pro).
9. The 2018 iPad Pro with the Folio case resembles a Surface Pro with its flat design cues.
10. If macOS ever gains ARM support or able to run on an iPad Pro, this device is better in design, feel and weight compared to a 2018 MBA, even the display is superior.

11” iPad Pro seems like the perfect size to travel and use, it is reminiscent of my favourite 11” MBA that was discontinued. Hopefully iOS supports full USB-C accessories such as USB drivers, SDcards, etc. At present it has limited support due to software not hardware.

This product resembles a digital picture frame, a very expensive one I might add.

Agree with above. Still, love mine but the biggest issue and ONE they need to fix is the home button remaining on 3rd party apps -, especially at night.

OMG, Hate this. The home button doesn't disappear in most apps. If watching movies at night on VLC or others, there is this bright white line at the bottom of the screen. I believe apps developers can write code to ensure the line disappears. Seems like a MAJOR oversight.

I can't stress enough to check out any 3rd party apps you use i.e. VLC, PlayerX, etc and whether it will bother you when using at night. Strangely enough, it disappears in YouTube. At least this is something. Still, very annoying that you have this issue on a VERY expensive tablet. Call out to a developer to write an app that removes the home button line.

My iPad Pro 11” just arrived this morning. Upgrading from the 10.5” Pro and very happy with it so far. I stopped in an Apple store earlier today to compare it to the 11” to the 12” and definitely think I made the right choice. The new 12” is nice but its still way too heavy IMO. Glad I bought the 11”.

Congrats. As the previous owner of two 12.9" models, I was 75% sure I was going with the smaller 11" version 3rd time around. That was until I saw the new 12.9. Yes, it's still big; but easier to hold, lighter and smaller. Made me realize how unwieldy the last model was.

I love the new iPad. The screen is amazing. The pen is awesome. The new keyboard is more responsive.

Three things I don't like:
1. In portrait mode, I keep knocking the pen off. Though strong magnet, landscape better.
2. I keep covering the camera with my left hand. This stops FaceID working. Found it better to turn the iPad 180degrees but then the pen is at the bottom. It's not a big issue, more just adapting as small bezels and big hands not ideal and

Is your Smart Folio Keyboard bouncing?

Is anyone else having this problem? Just got my new iPad 11" with smart keyboard folio and every time I tap on the ipad display it bounces. I can tell it's because the material that folds over is really stiff and if you look at the photo, it's not sitting on the ground... instead it's floating in the air. So when I touch the screen, it bounces. Is this a design defect or do I just need to get this replaced?

As soon as I saw the redesign, I figured this would be a problem!

Thanks for uploading that video. It's exactly what I feared it would do. If I get the new iPad Pro, I likely won't be getting the folio keyboard because of your post. Thanks :)

I mostly like it over my 10.5, but think the sweet spot might be 12.5". It seems just a bit too big.

I went ahead and picked an 11" today and was blown away! I love the size and how fast it is. Also, the design of the iPad is incredible -- it's slim but not in a 'I'll drop it, ****!' kind of way. It's feels so delicate yet neatly packed. Well done, Apple!

(This is coming from someone who hates using any type of iPad.)

Has anyone with the 11-inch noticed if they're able to undock or split their onscreen keyboard? I cannot. I've found one other instance of this on the interwebs and Apple support is stumped. They have no info that the 11 should be crippled like the 12.9 in this matter.

I love it. The screen looks fantastic. Battery drained very quickly during setup but I’m hoping that will sort itself out. The squared edges are a nice change - it feels very sturdy and professional, but also stylish. Biggest issue currently is lack of app support for the new aspect ratio. Will be fairly bothersome until devs update.

It’s called sarcasm. Every single review has said the exact same thing: “It’s not a laptop replacement.” That common thread in all the reviews has been extensively discussed in these forums for over a week now. The poster obviously was referring to this jokingly — you can tell it’s a joke because he says “I don’t think anyone has mentioned yet” when obviously it has been the #1 thing mentioned about the new iPads.

Fair enough! Redacted.

I cannot split the on-screen keyboard. Not sure what you mean by undock.

when you press the keyboard button, it should be visible. but don’t sure with the new pros.

I don't think anyone has said this yet, but the new iPad is still not a laptop replacement
That’s okay. The people who are already using their iPads as a laptop replacement are still going to continue using it as such regardless.

I don’t think either camp is going to convince the other side, so let’s just be happy that everyone has a choice with regards to which computing device works best for them.

So the new iPads do have the Home bar? Even though the older iPads work just fine with the gestures?

When you slide the keyboards up from the bottom edge of the screen. The keyboard can be split and docked, split and docked, or undocked and not split.

This button action doesn't work on the 11 inch.

Am I the only one who is bored now from technology and that those kind of announcements don't excite anymore?

How’s the Liquid Retina screen vs. OLED of the Xs and Max?

Coming from the X and now Max, I’m not sure I’d be totally happy going back to LCD. I need to check these out in person.

I am a big fan of the new iPad and it’s Potential. Only problem is that it is, just as the watch, HomePod, Apple TV and many other product by Apple one of these Banana products ripeing at the customers well after the purchase.
The iPads power is worth nothing if the apps do not support the hardware.
Do what I do - write your own apps!

It’s not bad. Blacks aren’t quite as black, is all.

Makes you wonder if user upgradable RAM is coming back to a few more macOS devices. The iMac 21" sure could use it. Agreed too that those changes to the Air and mini are bigger news than people realize. Apple typically doesn't reverse itself in those ways.
Speaking of RAM, has anyone confirmed that the 1TB models have 6 GB as was rumored/reported last week?

btw the 21.5” iMac has socketed DDR4 since the 2017 model.

Yes but it's not accessible by the average consumer like it is on the 21.5's of yore and the current 5K iMacs. Hopefully that changes in upcoming models.

I planned to upgrade my iPad Pro 10.5 for the new 11 inch. Watched all the videos and was genuinely excited. Went to the Apple store, and while waiting to buy tried out both iPads. I had my 10.5 with me since I was planning to trade it it.

To my surprise, the new model did not impress. Here is why:

1. It seemed thicker when compared with the tapered sides of the existing model. I didn’t like the look of the iPhone 4 with the squared edges either. This one is just personal taste.
2. The rounded corners on the screen display look ok on an iPhone sized device, but I didn’t love them on the larger screens. Since I will used the device for video/movies I would rather experience the entire screen. I hope they don’t do this to the MacBooks
3. I didn’t love the new folio case. When compared with my existing Apple Smart Keyboard, the whole device feels much thicker. When you fold the folio case back, you feel the keyboard buttons on the back. No way around it unless you remove the case altogether
4. The current Apple Smart Keyboard and pencil are not compatible so would have to buy a 799 device plus folio case plus pencil
5. What new functionality do you get? Most of the gestures work on the existing device and there are no apps that work exclusively on the new one. Sure it has a better camera and you can do emojis, but that’s not a primary goal.

I really wanted to like it but couldn’t justify the cost to upgrade. I almost prefer my existing device. Consider carefully before upgrading.

The previous smart keyboard exposes the keys too. That isn't new to this iPad.

I hate it.

The Apple Smart Keyboard hides the keys with a flap so when you fold it back like a book it’s smooth. For me that’s how it works.

Thanks for this. Found this fix the other day and set up a shortcut. Just a hassle when you have family using as well - but at least it works. Hope its something they fix and becomes standard of ALL apps that bar disappears organically. Thanks for the reply and suggestion.

honest question... which iPad is the replacement for the 9.7 Air 2? I am confused by the lineup
