If you want to have finer control over your bokeh you should definitely check out an app called Focos. It even lets you choose where the blur starts and ends with a depth map of the photo!
You can’t get a depth map from a 2d photo. Are they using focus stacking or something or just allowing you to select a direction for the blur...
[doublepost=1537586962][/doublepost]Any one seen any challenging photos like a dimly lit venue or a photo of the moon?

Also, professional users have no problem using smartphones for a lot of their work. They know that it's not the camera, but the talent behind it that makes them pros.

That is quite true. What I really want to know (and this is my argument here) does the average joe gives a flying monkey if it has 2 lenses or 8 lenses? Is it really worth going that far with the camera department on a smartphone? For me, maybe triple lenses (Wide, mid and long focal length) would be acceptable on a smartphone, anything else would just look ridiculous IMO. From what I have seen on a recent years, people in general seem to be more obsessed with selfies then anything else.

I would add to that two same focal length lenses at either end of the phone for depth perception and 3D mapping of objects.

Thanks for your concern, my typing is excellent so need to worry yourself!

You called it the smallest incremental upgrade in S cycle history; I obviously disagree. But I’d be happy to hear why you think all the other S cycles were better.
iPhone 3GS video recording, Tri quad band support
iPhone 4 S- Siri
iPhone 5s- Touch ID
iPhone 6S- force touch and speed
iPhone 8(or 7s) qi charging
iPhone 10S-.......spec bumps? Yeah....

See a pattern? Or do you need a chart? lol!

Listen. Its easy. People have no idea what they want. 99% of them. They are driven by marketing as they do not possess neither knowledge nor commitment to understand.
I am not overly invested. Just think you dont see bigger picture, and sometimes I need to say how I feel about the direction of society :)
Affording is not an issue - the issue is that sometimes its wise to think about the things you can afford taking under consideration the long term consequences of your desires.

Do you really think 99% of the world is too weak to stand up to marketing? If so, you may want to work on your totalitarian view of the world.

The better camera and picture/video processing improvements (including stereo mics) in the XS and 2x download speed from the XS trumps Siri and Qi charging. Everyone benefits from a better camera, but I’m sure you’d agree that many iPhone users never use Siri or Qi charging. Or 3D Touch for that matter, leaving the 6s at a spec bump. The neural engine got a particularly amazing improvement; no other S cycle phone ever had a co-processor get 7 times faster.

I’m still unconvinced the XS is the smallest incremental upgrade in S cycle history.

$1000 phone and no fast charger in the box? I feel Apple is being cheap in nor adding a complete package in the box. Phones a quarter the price have a quick charger and not that slow charger from 5(¿) years ago?

My feeling is that because a fast charger used daily can more quickly reduce the life of the battery, that the std charger should be included, and those who need a fast charger can add one to the equation on their own.

My iPhone X battery is still at 99% after 10 months, because I don’t fast charge it. My iPhone 7+ is at 93% after 23 months and I often fast charge it with 10-15W cubes.

If it makes you feel any better, my iPhone X battery just went to 98% after the iOS 12 update.

Regular fast charging won’t harm the battery. Apple are just using ***** batteries. My X battery is at 96% after 242 charge cycles. That’s a mix of wireless at 7.5w, normal and fast charging via Apple 29w USB-C. It’s been at 96% for about the last 100 charge cycles too. I also leave it on 7.5w wireless charge all night as I use sleep cycle app.

I would hope after the ‘slowing down’ debacle that apple have now started using better quality batteries.

Samdung now apparently say their batteries will retain 95% health after 2yrs and include fast chargers with their new flagship phones. So Apple has no excuse apart from chasing profits.

What needs to be remembered/understood is that the phone itself dictates the way it’s charged and not what you plug it into. If you plug the phone into an iPad charger it will get near fast charge speed.

The battery has been designed to be capable of receiving the amount of power required to charge quickly. The thermal and current management is done by the charging controller on the device. So regular fast charging will not adversely harm the battery.

yeah forget "new wallpapers" i just want better batteries all around ugh

Those photos aren't bed per se, but something seems off to me. Not sure about the control you have but I think the depth of field on the left had dog is too shallow. And there is something weird about the depth in the image with that thing in the photo top right. it looks to me like it is behind the dog but has about the same sharpness as the dog.

You can expect that for the next 2-3 years, possibly more. The hardware and software just aren't smart enough to get it right. Maybe one day. Doesn't matter, I prefer my DSLR any day. Also, the phone gets it even half-decent only in optimal situations like those examples: in the middle of the day. Tried my X last week to get a pic of a bridge in the middle of the night. It was illuminated nicely and reflected from the water below. My DSLR captured it perfectly, my iPhone X got a few sad examples. They probably look ok looked from instagram on a tiny phone screen but that's about it. I don't deal in stamp-sized pictures.

What comes to the comments from the users, one was hilarious: "Barely use my X one handed. I'm used to 2 hands on my X therefore the Max feels normal to me. ". Well, it figures. X is already too big to use one-handed. Using that to justify requiring two hands for an even bigger device? Sure. I also use my iPad and my computer two-handed! *gasp*

I'd love for phones to be as versatile as my DSLR. I know thats a very tough ask.
Meantime, I'd love to replace my DSLR with a mirrorless camera that was just as capable but preferably cheaper/smaller. I don't see why lenses for some mirrorless camera lenses seem comparable priced compared to DSLR lenses.
(I haven't done any research in to mirrorless cameras yet, I have a Canon 70D)

Since the thread was revived, I'll use the opportunity to say I really my space grey max. Traded in the 6s and like face id more than I thought I would.

The only thing I can't figure out is how to disable the power button double click for Apple Pay.
